Review: Since leaping to more electronic ground with 2015's 'Dilate', Vessels' futuristic latest offering 'The Great Distraction' sees them plotting a course through neon-lit, industrial flecked music with its feet firmly in both post-rock and IDM, ambitiously drawing from and blending elements of the two. Highlight single 'Radiart' burns slowly, stacking up pulsating and hypnotic layers akin to Immunity era Jon Hopkins. Other tracks, such as opener 'Mobilise' and 'Position' take a more intense and polyrhythmic approach, repurposing their previous math-rock work. The production goes from feeling cavernous to incredibly close, and these deft shifts in space succeed in highlighting the build-ups and the peaks that punctuate the album. Though Vessels' sound may have changed lanes, this is an engrossing and panoramic album by a band not content with resting on their laurels.

Review: Claptone's latest single, the infectious and hypnotic groove "The Drums" (Din Daa Daa) Ft. George Kranz has gone on to become something of a dancefloor sensation across the globe since first emerging as the ubiquitous anthem at this year's Miami Music Week. Now Spanish house titan Dennis Cruz, exploding UK talent Latmun and BBC R1 favourite Friend Within deliver three peak time remixes to continue the story deep into the summer. The original started life as a Claptone club tool, a voodoo spell road-tested and refined in clubs all over the world on his never-ending tour. Claptone took inspiration from the post-punk melting pot of early 80's NYC when he connected with the pioneering George Kranz who originally made the drums dance over 30 years ago. The result is a meeting of minds and rhythms, pure gold in the hands of headline DJs.

Review: Here we have a meeting of minds, with Mediterranean house hero Taches joining forces with rising DJ duo Eli & Fur. The trio recorded the track in 'a dimly lit cupboard filled with the scent of too many different incense sticks' and they had to take turns with the seat whenever someone wanted add a musical element. However the cramped conditions didn't impair the tune, with "Lookalike" being a super deep, 117bpm minimal juggernaut engulfed in smoky late night atmospherics. We hope that this is just the beginning of a beautiful artistic friendship.

Review: The successful reception to their recently released debut LP Wolfhour has seen Swedish synth poppers DKNL make the move from Sugarcane Records to Different Recording, the electronic subsidiary of major indie label daddies PIAS. Otherside is the first fruits of their new deal and the single track release finds the Scandinavian trio keeping their brooding, noirish sound very much intact. "Otherside" is an elegant slice of snowdrift dream-pop, all brittle Scandi vocals over deep layers of emotional synthy ice. Perfect for a nocturnal candlelit sleigh ride, or soundtracking one of the deeper, meaningful moments on a BBC drama.

Review: Berlinian beatsmith Claptone teams up with DoP's Jaw for two winningly contrasting house grooves. "Dear Life" is a piano-tickling emotional number. Subtle in its delivery, Jaw shows his softer, reflective side as the groove develops momentum in a similar way to Chelonis R Jones' early output. For something a little more party-wise jump straight on "Secret Lover". A bubbly, heads-down affair coded with revel-ready vocal shots and spoken word sermonising, it's not dissimilar to the output of Music For Freaks around 10 years ago. Vibey.

Review: French electro-head Abstraxion continues to garner support from the DJ aristocracy. His "Jus Acid" release of a few months ago won much-deserved support from Erol Alkan, Andrew Weatherall and Brodinski, while this latest on Different Records has already been spun by Laurent Garnier, Boris Dlugosch and Punks Jump Up. With a bleep 'n' glitch lead line backed by acid bass and some soft-touch drums, "Jaipur's Elephant" remains entrancing throughout, as does "Pensae Nocturne" which sports an octave-straddling Euro melody fed through some trippy delays. Cosmo Vitelli also revisits "Jus Acid", with a mix that charges along like In Flagranti gone industrial.
