Digital Terror

Proudly flying the flag for heavy-set, pounding US drum & bass, Digital Terror have paved the way for the jump up & rollers sonic-spheres to capitalise on the always-growing scene over the pond, with a pool of new, established and current talent on their impressive roster. Based out of New York, they’ve been ‘keepin it gritty since day 1’, consistently firing forth a barrage of chaotic DnB artillery and pushing the developing NY sound forward in the process. With a back catalogue made up of a cohesive, diverse collective of producers, both Stateside & EU-based including Sub Killaz, Macky Gee, Bou, Hoogs, K Motionz, Jayline, Prestige, Spaow and more, they’re not only an insight into some of the freshest artistry the tempo has to offer, but a certified launching pad into the drum & bass frontline killer sounds.

Review: Duck and cover! Harley D is in war mode and he's about to 'Ambush' us all with this epic collection of floor-flatteners. Forever flexing the widest sonic muscles, across these six tracks Harley showcases his heavier, clubbier tactics in all kinds of directions. Highlights include the stripped-back MC-heavy 'Real Champion', the intoxicating fire and fusion of 'Invasion' and the stinky old dubstep jam 'Militant' where things get super weird and swampy. And that's just half of the EP. Cop this or cop out.

Review: Most frequently spotted on his own Pick The Lock imprint and other imprints such as Zombie and Gradient, Nick The Lot returns to NY label Digital Terror with a full EP - 'Ganja Man'. Fragrant sonics as always, Nick sparks the joint up with the title track which hits with a classic sample and a big old smoky swagger. It's backed up by three more heavy strains... 'You Understand' hits like Gelato, sweet to begin with but intoxicating within seconds, 'Blue Fantas' is more of a pollen style smoke - dark, heavy and rich in flavour - while 'Fired Up' is more like your classic Gorilla Glue strain. Messy, addictive and guaranteed to keep you coming back for more. High grade as always from Mr T Lot.

Review: All say 'wow', it's time for some Spaow! Feeling extra trippy this time, the twisted jump-up craftsman gets his murk on with the wavey, flabby-cheeky 'Wisky Kung Fu' before 'Onobus' gets every single pot and pan in every single kitchen in your street and throws it at you with nothing but love. Get even jiggier into the EP and you'll get slapped by the tarmac-thick bass of 'More Muscle' before 'Terminally Online' takes everything you hold dear and shreds it in your face. And what's more, you'll say thank you in return. Absolutely potty behaviour; this is one Spaow's most out-there slabs to date.

Review: To celebrate the marking of their 100th official release, the New York-based masters of Digital Terror make their return with a system-slamming compilation box, exploring the full spectrum of new school drums. The project features 16 outstanding originals, ranging from the limb-twitching synth punches of 'Make Sure' from Stompz and lethal reese work of Sano's 'Blow Up', through to the metallic shreds of Spaow's 'Warning' VIP mix and Taxman's gut-busting return on 'So Good'. The team have assembled a collection of heavyweights for this latest outing, with the grinding bass curls of 'Heavy & Bad' from Harley D & the euphoria-inducing delights of Jayline & General D's 'Keep Moving' being our immediate standouts. It's a fiery collection to say the least, capable of turning the deadest of dances into an absolute zoo.

Review: US donnies Sub Killaz go straight for the jugular with this savage 420-flavoured collection on Digital Terror. 'Rollin Stoned' takes a classic vocal sample and big string clip and create a moment of sheer euphoria before flipping things into the spikiest bassline the duo have ever whipped up. Elsewhere 'Twist Em Up' is a well-oiled filth locomotive, 'Pre-Roll' crushes with mind-meltingly slapping snares and a confident air of preparation while 'Status' seals the deal on more of a stripped back steppy UK flavour with plenty of subs. Roll up, roll up.

Review: What a treat we have here as the one and only Saxxon makes an explosive return, this time courtesy of the team at Digital Terror, welcoming a fabulous four track display of jungle-inspired madness. We kick off with the unpredictable break licks and grizzly synth design of 'Unexpected Guest', which immediately unleashes an injection of systemized power, before the slowly warbling basslines and eerie melodic twists of 'Blast Off' crunch their way into view. Next, the gnarly synth barks and high intensity drum arrangements of 'Jagged Waves' definitely up the energy levels of the whole project before rounding things off with the sub-heavy, reesey twists of '14 Meteors', which through a combination of syncopated drum textures and bulbous bass tones close the EP off in style.

Review: Digital Terror have a long history of putting out music that takes no prisoners on the dancefloor and, whilst we're still clubless, this four-tracker from BassBrothers is sure to get your gun fingers raised at home. 'Bounce' is the most interesting of the bunch, with an almost grime like approach to its steppy percussion and structured drum claps that reminds us of Diemantle. The title tune - 'Pressure' - is the other highlight, with a piercingly smooth bassline arrangement that sees jabbing claps tumble over on another in their haste to mess you around. Big stuff.

Review: Harley D is back, using his force to compel you to pull ugly bassfaces and throw your drink with an EP that doesn't hold back. It's not the kindest on the ears but then again its not supposed to be, it's a monograph in hard-hitting sonics and dastardly tones. 'Evacuation' is undergirded by a booming snare drum and percussive clarity, but the action happens in the steadily melodic but still raucous bassline, a pitched-up monstrosity of dancefloor proportions. The others feature more big synths, but with emphasis instead on forward movement and a roughshod approach to crafting textures with a focus on sonic destruction - top release.

Review: Digital Terror have had a sick last twelve months and this VA shows off some of their best cuts from the year, featuring acts like Jayline, Dutta, SL8r and more. Those latter two collab in serious style on 'The Pain', which cuts down into the range with fire and fury, angled sharp basses knifing through the frequencies with the grace and decorum of an elephant in heat. Jack The Ripper lands with supreme heaviness on 'Direction Course', Spaow brings the old-school vibes on 'Gallopo' and the collaboration of the album comes from the dream team of Jayline, Bou, Dutta and MC Dino who land with aplomb on 'Pico Skank'. Seminal.

Review: Digital Terror don't tend to put out music that's weak, thin or otherwise not suitable for the dancefloor. Sub Killaz & Replicant's Gun Powder EP is a testament to that, all four cuts do some serious damage and the release overall is certainly on the sharper end of the spectrum. 'Losing You' is the best of the bunch and it's got a rough, Souped Up edge that injects a satisfying level of oomph into the arrangement. 'The Grid' is a close second and its incredibly unique concoction of swirling basses and gargling pulsars adds a wicked futuristic element. Top EP from the Digital Terror crew.

Review: Choose your weapons! Prestige rocks up with a whole armoury to pick from... Do you slowly melt everyone's skin off with "Interfere"? Do you continually headbutt everyone with a sharp spiky groaning bassline on "Weapons"? Do you hurl people into deep pools of D&B venom like the early Hazard-esque tear-up "Strange Times"? Do you freak people out and play with their minds with the strange bass texture and switches of "Change"? Or do you straight up bury them with the warped and twisted bassline of "By A Bird"? These are your choices, Prestige has supplied the weapons - the power is yours.

Review: Digital Terror have proven that their more than capable of releasing tunes which don't mess about but which carry an air of respectability as well, music that's for the dancefloor but that doesn't sacrifice itself for that purpose. Jack The Ripper fits in with that trend. Directions is a release full of stripped back, industrial sounds but that still actually sounds really nice, a T>I or Original Sin esque four-tracker that's weighted in all the right places. Shout out to Master Error for the feature too on he absolutely wicked 'Died This Way'.

Review: Currently ramping up the vibes on his Informal imprint, Dutta takes time to serve up a slice of cake or four on Digital Terror and it's a bass banquet that's every bit as scrumptious as you'd expect from a man who officially wants to marry BBQ pizza bases. Expect ruffage of every flavour: the spicy ("The Pain" with Sl8r), the glutinous ("Painkillers"), the meaty ("LA Kush Cake") and the sweet ("1608") All best served with some type of fizzy beverage, Dutta's cooking up bare feasts right about now.

Replicant fits in with that trend. Death Call is a release full of stripped back, industrial sounds but that still actually sounds really nice, a T>I esque four-tracker that's weighted in all the right places. Review: Digital Terror release music that'll put the fear of god into you, proper big tunes that shake systems and all the rest of it. Lowriderz lands on the label with a cool five-tracker aimed at the jump-up heads amongst you and all of the tracks on this release hit fairly hard, even the first - 'Get Done' -which reels you in with some nice sampling and vocal work from MC No Limit. This release is grating at times but it's worth it, with some big tunes to keep you going. Well played guys.

Mo Fo's Downstairs - (4:27) 175 BPM
Review: Sleng your tengs love, you've pulled... Fineprint return to Hokilla's Digital Terror with a high strength four pack of rave juice. "Sleng" sets the scene with a classic reggae sample and a waspy, early 2000s Bristol stuff exhaust pipe bassline while "On Sum" brings serious wobbles on the multi-layered bassline and woozy drunken beats. Elsewhere we get intimate with a mysterious entity called "Frank White" and experience what life is like when you combine slimey funk elements with industrial strength bass shreds before "Mo Fo's Downstairs" blasts us off with a 21 laser salute. Vicious, unrelenting and grotty in all the right places; trust us, you'll be slenging these down the hatch for a long time to come

Review: The fineprint is usually there to trip you up, to conceal things from you which might've altered your decision or outlook on something. Fineprint isn't like that. Unlike his namesake, with Fineprint you get exactly what you think you get: an array of blustering synths and seams of relentless drum lines all tied up into one. His from Chi 2 NY EP does this better than usual, especially on 'Mash', which epitomises exactly what's good about his productions. Banger on bangers.

Review: Digital Terror galvanise their vaults with this absolute stormer of a collection. Bulging with some of the biggest names flexing in the fertile badlands between jump up / rollers, the whole album smacks of premium, uncut timeless D&B from the likes of Hoogs, Bou, Dutta, T>I, Taxman, Macky Gee, Rawtee and many many more. If you've been following Digital Terror you'll already know that every track is a highlight but stand out thumpers include the sinewy metallic ripples on Danger & Nightfang's "Turbulence", the blistered breaks and flabby bass wallops on Dutta & Raz's "Spectacular" and T>I's super slimy shakedown of Hoogs' "Jungle Bad". Stinking!

Ouija - (3:42) 175 BPM Hot
Review: Just in case you didn't know already... US jump-up wizard Hoogs is an absolute monster on both dials and decks. So much so, he's written a tune about his people. "A Monster" is every bit as punchy and gnarly with its one note bassline scorching like a blow torch. "Goo Zit" is every bit as mucky and grotty as you'd expect from such a title while "Jungle Demon" whips up some trippy juju with its off beat bass and strange string textures. Last but not least we have "Ouija" that's funky, unpredictable and wily enough to not just have a chat with the dead but wake them up and make them dance. Monstrous behaviour.
