Review: He may be a relative newcomer, but Russ Denman impresses with "Mere". Favouring a deep take on dancefloor techno, the title track builds gradually but steadily, the understated chord sequence culminating in an epic climax. The remixes are also of a high quality: Justin Berkovi ups the ante, with thundering claps and an ominous bassline repositioning Denman's musical sounds, while Kevin Gorman's version favours matching a mid-tempo with the original's building chords. Best of all though is Mattias Fridell's remix: dispensing with the musical elements, he delivers a grungy, dubby rework that's coated in layer upon layer of grimy effects.
