Review: According to west coast bass-house institution Dirtybird, "Are you 'Feelin Good' " by BOT & Will Clarke has the best breakdown of 2019 so far - a big call but there's certainly some truth to it. A perfect combination of Bristol-based Clarke's bumping and bass-driven sense of groove with Italian Bot's highly saturated drums - with 303 acid and creepy vocals to boot! On the remix is Swedish veteran Tiger Stripes who delivers a barreling rework, featuring tough techno style drums that bang away down a trail of reverb and a seriously grunting bassline - full of attitude this one!

Review: Following releases on Curle and his own Items & Things label in 2018, Marc Houle makes a debut on Dirtybird. While the US producer rose to prominence during the minimal house boom of the mid-00s, Min & Soda is a radically different proposition. The title track is a steely techno affair, led by a clanging bass and sharp, crispy drums. It has more in common with stripped back Motor City sounds than the white noise-infested, hiccuping grooves Houle was known for. "Car and Driver" sees the US producer venture farther down the wormhole. Its mixture of noisy riffs and acrid 303s unravelling over doubled up claps mean that this is a blistering, peak-time affair.

Review: Moon Harbour label chief Matthias Tanzmann makes a surprising addition to west coast bass house institution Dirtybird. Proving that there is a wide variety within his sonic repertoire, the legend from Leipzig shows that not only is he a seasoned expert at slinky tech house grooves but also fun-loving boompty stuff - of the bass driven variety. His new thriller comes in the form of "The Treat" - here is a big, fat and funky party starter with enough power in the low end to truly shake the room. Second offering "Filthy" sure knows how to bounce, with its solid 303 bassline, druggy vocal loops and super swingin' rhythms to boot.

Review: Since making his debut five years ago, Steve Darko has rightly earned a reputation for the quality of his quirky, funk-fuelled workouts, many of which add foreboding, big room sounds and eccentric musical flourishes to bass-beavy tech-house grooves. You'll find more of the same - and plenty else besides - on debut album Midnight Swim, an excitable, mind-altering journey through twisted but accessible peak-time house. Fans and newcomers alike will lap up cuts such as 'Smooth Like Butter', acid-fired Narko hook-up 'Red' and the sleazy, sub-heavy growl of VNSSA collaboration 'Hypnotized', while the album's frequent diversions - see bubbly ambient/electro cut 'Eucildean Dreams', the deep house warmth of Claude Von Stroke co-production 'How Many Times' and the deliciously drowsy 'Eelated' [sic] - are often equally as impressive.

Review: Whenever we see the Dirtybird US logo appear in the store we know we are likely in for one hell of a ride, as they this time welcome the combined flavours of Nala & Nikki Nair inside for a beautiful two-track display. Following on from a blippy introduction, jam-packed with glitchy pad textures and synthetic dives, 'The World Is Always Ending' evolves into a custom-built breaksy barricade-buster, pulsing it's way through your speaker system with a combination of purposeful distortion and chilling vocal displays, giving the whole arrangement a very well thought out feel. On the flip, we take in the acidic drips and potent electronic landscapes of 'Escape', a very enjoyable back up bubbler that serves as a perfect B-side. Fiery stuff indeed!

Review: Literally descending into the dirtybird zone with weird twitches, fidget tweaks and poppin drums is Steve Darko's elastic synth splurge into the trawling underground of the Detroit label and its way-out sound. The title track snarling like a panther caught up somewhere in the acidic wilderness. "Red" featuring the vocal spirales of DJ/vocalist Nala again combines acid, this time with deep house and pop sentiments good enough for the Modular Cowboy label back in the day, Norman Nodge's remix to "Words, Breaths, Pauses", perhaps. Have a good trip!

Review: Claude VonStroke's ever reliable Californian imprint proves once again that west coast = best coast. Their new various artist EP entitled 'Take Flight' sees several artists who have been building a name for themselves among fans via their Birdfeed. These four selected upstarts have come up with new jams for the peak time in typically Dirtybird fashion. Get down to the low slung and bass-driven bounce of "Dance For Me" by San Diego's Dillon Marinez, or feel the truly sensual vibe of dubby deep house journey "Let's Get High" by the mysterious Freqish, while the pairing of Brazil's Hypside and MNK4 results in some trippy afterhours minimal funk on "UFO Technology".

Review: Dirtybird showcase their deeper side on a new 14-track complation featuring some of the label's best loved artists (Claude VonStroke, Julio Bashmore, Sascho Robotti, Pezzner) alongside a host of more up-and-coming names. There's quite a variety of sounds on offer here, with cuts ranging from the dreamy, bassy minimalism of opener "Aundy" to the pop leanings of Scavazza's "Shake Your Hearts". The best bits, though, come largely from the deepest end of the spectrum: Tom Flynn's Amp Fiddler collab "The Future" is a late-night, jazzy delight while Dernis and Robot Love bring us a couple of proper deep house bullets.

The youngster returns to Claude VonStroke's esteemed label with his new groove called "Monalisa", featuring more of his bumpy and intoxicating minimalist vibes, mixed with more exotic sounds adding to its hypnotic mystique. Second offering is "Louvre Love" (Original Mix) with its wonky low-slung funk by way of a dusty hip-hop inspired production technique, that's just perfect for getting weird at the afterhours.

Review: Next up on Dirtybird is Miami born, now Los Angeles-based Nala, host of the label's TV Party on Twitch alongside friend and local rave legend Richie Panic of Lights Down Low. Following up some great collaborations such as with Tuff Ghost, and another one a couple of months ago with fellow label artist Steve Darko on "Red", she now serves up some seriously bass heavy bounce on the trippy vocal-led groove of "Psychic Attack". Second offering "Sun Is Hot" goes down a deeper and more emotive route, with its sunny, mellowed tones underpinned by some smooth meditative rhythms.

Review: Dirtybird does Brazil! The west coast bass house institution headed up by Claude Vonstroke taps two of Sao Paulo's biggest names on its 197th release. DJ Glen has been a stalwart of the city's electronic music since since the turn of the millenium, with releases/remixes on Cajual and Snatch! in recent years. He is joined by ascendant DJ/producer Bruno Furlan (This Ain't Bristol/Relief) on their new effort "Another Planet" - a dirty, wonky main room thriller which as you'd expect is heavy on the low end and worthy of a headrush or two. This is followed by the bleepy/druggy percolator jack of "Ducking" which is sure to keep all the kids dancin'!

Review: It is that time of year again down in the City Of Magic. Winter Music Conference, Miami Music Week or whatever you prefer to call it - we just wish we were there too! And this is as close as it gets, with San Francisco powerhouse Dirtybird doing an 11-track compilation featuring the likes of Franklyn Watts, Bode V Steve Darko among many more. The tracks also come as a continuous mix by Windy City legend Gene Farris: he of Farris Wheel Recordings who serves up an exclusive here with Frenchman Tim Baresko on the electric "Fly With Me", also the bass heavy bounce (right in line with the label's sound) is also heard on Jaksan's "LaLaLa", Belgian veteran Kolombo makes a surprise appearance with some dirty nu-disco on "O Ride O Ride" and Brazilian Scavazza gets deep down and dirty on the grinding "This Time".

Review: An avid modular synth enthusiast and purveyor of minimal and deep sounds, Wyatt Marshall has been a part of the Dirtybird family for quite a few years. He is co-host of label chief Claude Vonstroke's Birdhouse radio show, and appeared on his album earlier this year collaborating on the track "Youngblood". Marshall makes his EP debut with "Another Redundant Question" which is a serving of slinky and mesmerising tech house with seductive vocals and infectious polyrhythms, which altogether makes for a perfect track for the warm-up or the afterhours alike. Finally, "Da Ding" is a functional deep tribal house tool in the vein of early Mountain People or Andomat 3000.

Review: It has been exactly a year since Iranian DJ/producer Ardalan Noghre-Kar dropped his massive 'Mr Good' LP on the always reliable Dirtybird label. Now Claude Vonstroke & Co. serve up a series of remixes from the San Francisco-based artist's debut album, with highlights coming from: Bostonians Soul Clap who get deep down and dirty on "I Can't Wait", Dirtybird alumnus Kyle Watson with a suitably wonky rendition of "Osci", Brazilian upstart Cour.T with a tough rolling and druggy perspective of "Zombie Village" and Seattle scene veteran Pezzner handing in a mesmerising version of "Orange Dreams". The album was widely admired by critics, DJs, fans and industry alike, and these remixes chase up its success perfectly.

As usual, they've picked up a bunch of unique tracks from established artists and newcomers alike with a penchant for fat, bouncy and bass-driven tech house - a perfect way to soundtrack your lockdown party over the coming weeks. Highlights not limited to: Brazilian upstart Cour.T's NSFW party starter "Acid Pu$$y", the tunnelling 303 acid of Monki's "On Course", Kevin Knapp getting his boompty on as ever with "Dig This" and Jonathan Landossa giving you a microdose of mind altering madness on the thriller "Mind Control". Elsewhere, we're not sure what Morelia and Luke Andy were on when they threw down the the wonky and off-kilter "Wobblesocket" (but we're lovin' it!) and there's' a mastermix of all the aforementioned and more by the ever reliable Gettoblaster.

Review: 'Freaks and Beaks' is the fourth album from Dirtybird head honcho Claude VonStroke. Taking inspiration from the sense of humor shared between him and label partner Justin Martin, a love of experimentation with everything from hardware and modular synthesis to iPhone apps, and embracing genres as wide as ghetto tech, drum 'n' bass, hip-hop and breaks - together with his idiosyncratic style of minimal tech house. This is VonStroke's love letter to vibrancy and genre diversity. From the bass-driven acid jack of "Freaks Don't Fail Me Now", the trippy afterhours reductions of "Flubblebuddy" or "Youngblood (ft. Wyatt Marshall) to the influence of Bristol's similarly low-end driven sound as heard on "These Notes In Order" or for something different there's even a bit of blissed-out electronica - as heard on the evocative closer "Alpine Arpline".

After a couple of appearances on their Birdfeed service, Claude VonStroke & Co. are excited about this first proper release from the Mexican up and comer, as his home region is said to be the label's biggest fan base. Get on your tunnel vision with the title track, an intoxicating minimal groove with hypnotic vocals that's perfect for getting weird at the afterhours. This is followed by the loopy and rhythmic DJ tool "Our" featuring chiming and jacking beats, reminiscent of Minus staples Run Stop Restore.

Review: It's a real taste of California dreaming on this new one for Dirtybird. Ascendant Los Angeles transplant VNSSA teams up with Bay Area producer, engineer and educator Lenny Kiser. The two artists got together to exchange some ideas, and they were said to be thrilled with the outcome. On "Sinking", they have crafted a dark and dirty main room floor shaker, where a seething Reese bassline plays centre stage alongside VNSSA's smooth vocal delivery. Second offering "Cue The Rhythm" goes further into bass heavy dystopia on this fierce expression in electro, featuring all the classic motifs of the genre.

Review: We head back over to Dirtybird US for this latest export, which sees the wonderful sounds of Yung Skrrt return in serious style as two potent remixes of 'McDonalds' arrive. The original track is a certified heater, which is why we were so excited to see both Barclay Crenshaw & Eprom drafted in for this official rework package. First up we explore Barclay Crenshaw's edition, which dives right into the furthest realms of the abstract, fusing warbling LFO lines and lethal distorted vocal processing for a highly intensified overhaul. Eprom on the other hand pulls out a more minimal approach, linking together a fusion of metallic drum effects and a big booming 808 bassline to pulsate around the lower regions. A very tasty start to the year from Dirtybird!

Review: Nestled inside the Dirtybird aviary for some time now, Cour T. officially takes flight with Brain Deals, the artist's debut album. Full of vibrant, colourful patterns, amusing vocal samples and playful synth accents, the album's dips through a flurry of interlocking club genres. All enthused with that trippy Dirtybird sound, Brain Deals bangs - be it bumping basslines ("Queenlove") to classic 2010s tech house-isms in "Madrugadao"- the album traverses the gamut of Americana dance music, dipping into acid techno with "Eraser" alongside other wicked mid-west influences. Review: It's hard to believe that it's been a decade since the release of "Detroit". To celebrate double figures, its author has released a sprawling "10 Year Anniversary mix", alongside the original version. The party doesn't end there though, and Dirtybird has also selected some impressive producers to rework it. Unsurprisingly, Marc Houle's take is a slinky, stripped back affair, while Octave One's interpretation mines the kind of tribal, percussive sound that the Burden brothers have made their own over the past two decades. Fused with the original version's brooding synths, it makes for a intoxicating techno groove. Finally, Visionquest bring the curtain down with a laid back, groovy house take on this modern-day classic.

Review: Bristol's master practitioner of boompty electro house returns for west coast institution Dirtybird with his rendition of DJ Godfather's 1999 classic "Booty Perculate" feat DJ Funk, but in the process sounds more like Cajmere's seminal "Percolator" with its stomping Chicago hard house groove and wobbly melody. Second offering "House Girl" sounds more like the Clarke we know with its massive bouncy baseline, tight rhythm and buzzing synth leads that fly all over the shop for perfect trippiness beneath druggy pitch shifted vocals. Review: Bay Area house hero and Dirtybird co-founder Justin Martin is back following up 2013's Ghettos & Gardens with his new full length LP Hello Clouds, a collection of fine moods and grooves that see him collaborate with some of his favourite artists at the moment. He's quoted as saying "I reached out to specific artists who currently inspire me". Highlights include the title track where he collaborates with London pop chanteuse FEMME on this low slung acid groove. More great talents from London appear such as Lena Cullen, lending her fine vocals to the dark futurism of "Odyssey" and Bristolian rising star and fellow Dirtybird alumni Will Clarke appears too, lending his midas touch to "Back To The Jungle" which is bumpy and as bass driven as you could possibly imagine. The Amen break on top is totally killer too.
