Review: The big man on campus returns! Fast becoming a staple on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, the Glaswegian producer throws down an impressive full length demonstrating the diversity within his musical repertoire - and count us in as fans. From the deep and soulful late night house of "Our House" which will have you 'doin' the wiggly worm', Afrobeat meets Innervisions styled melodic house on "Hammond Groove" while "High Heavens" explores classic neon-lit electro aesthetics from the '80s. There's even some harder stuff in there, like demonstrated on "The Great Beast" that's a slow burning early '90s style techno jam (which blows the bloody doors off!) and "Gear Tension" which throws in more hallmarks of the golden era such as 303 acid and Joey Beltran styled menstasms.

Review: Big Miz left the cherished bosom of the Dixon Avenue Basement Jams crew to guest on friend Wheelman's new Stereotone label. Here he returns to DABJ with his second solo single. Title track "The Bomb" is something of a killer, with Miz lacing a bouncy, funk-fuelled drum machine rhythm with wild but jazzy synth lines, warehouse-friendly stabs and bleep style electronics. Elsewhere, "Sponk 900" is a breathless, ghetto-house inspired slammer, while "You Lose" is a raw and wonky fusion of noisy but funky electronics and thrusting machine drums. "Break The Law", a more hypnotic but no less guttural jack-track reminiscent of early 2000s Chicago tech-house, completes a fine package.

Review: Glasgow imprint Dixon Avenue Basement Jams are really on a roll at the moment aren't they! After some great releases by the likes of Casio Royale and Big Miz they now present the return of Detroit producer Jared Wilson, who last appeared for the label back in 2012. The Communing With Ghosts EP features "Pheo Acid" which is a dark and epic 303 excursion that will no doubt appeal to hardcore fans of the classic Chicago sound. "Acid River" (getting the theme now?) is more restrained with the relentless squelch of that little silver box, but still pumps along at a nice pace. On the flip we've next got "Smartbar Acid" which we really can imagine sounds like a night up at the infamous Windy City institution. Finally the title track might break the pattern of names thus far but not the sound (thankfully) and it's definitely the most high octane acid track on here that would make even DJ Pierre himself stand up and notice.

Review: Following the success of their first all-star EP, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams has once again assembled the crew for a second throw-down. Dennis Sutra goes for the jugular on opener "TIME 4 PRAYER", where ghetto-house style cut-up vocal snippets ride a thumping, 128 BPM groove, while "Fear E" reaches for the classic house vocal samples on the low-slung warehouse jack of "Candi's Quadra". Speaking of jack-tracks, you'll struggle to find more muscular thrills than the fuzzy electronics, stomping beats and hedonistic intent of CT Trax's "Walk For Me". The same outfit's surging acid jam, "Toxic", pulls down the curtain on another killer DABJ release.

Review: Dixon Avenue Basement Jams has vowed to make 2016 their "most productive year to date". They've certainly started in impressive style, with this collection of drum machine driven, basement bothering box jams. It's the work of label "new boy" Casio Royale (we chuckled, at least), it wildly swings between clattering sweatiness and ragged, acid-flecked wildness. He starts with the relentless throb of "Hell House", before venturing into heavier territory with the distorted synths and clattering percussion of "Fun House". Flip for the 8-bit electronics, raging acid lines and fizzing rhythms of "Joyrider", and the undulating acid trip of the deliciously psychedelic "I Finish".

Review: Dixon Avenue Basement Jams: accept no substitute. The Glasgow label brings back local lad Big Miz on Safari Park Nonsense, following up last year's brilliant Midnight Man Handle. First track "Foundations" is a snarling acid house jam with booming 808 rhythms and a vocal repeating the titles very refrain. "Morse Dance" is more traditional deep house fare that fits in with the current status quo while "Urgent" returns to the fierce 808 heavy house with US influences with some absolutely smashing male vocals. Finally "Winger" goes out all guns blazing and reintroducing some 303 groove and a shed load of swing and shuffle to boot.

Review: Glasgow's Dixon Avenue Basement Jams offer us some more of their proper straight up house vibes; the way they were intended! Big Miz is up this time around with Midnight Man Handle. "Good Things" gets straight down to business with its stomping, swing fuelled beat and buzzing organ leads, proudly proclaiming "I don't play around with girls like that!" Enough said. Next up the soulful deepness of "Electrolites" still packs a hefty punch and you'll need your fill of said enzymes after dancing up a sweat to this one. On the B side there's no more Mr. Nice Guy; "Solange" throws together nasty 303 acid, a manic cowbell and some truly disturbed samples. Finally "Wurx" sounds like more of a restrained warehouse techno jam with its huge synth line, booming and hissing 909 and truly dark atmosphere.

Review: It only seems like a few months ago that Dixon Avenue Basement Jams appeared out of nowhere, brandishing some brash ghetto-flecked house business from some unknown called Marquis Hawkes on a vividly colourful debut. But look here the Glaswegian label are racking double figures on the DABJ cat no scale and celebrating in requisite fashion with some fresh hotness from the now Berlin-based Hawkes housed in a label tote bag. Having established a sound across his previous DABJ releases, it's nice to see Hawkes try and succeed with something a bit different here. Lead cut "Honey Kisses" is on a blessed carnival tip and pushed forth by some killer broken beat programming, whilst "Let's Do It" is an ascendant slab of piano-flecked boogie house. Face down and "House Is My Castle" is more familiar MH fare, slipping into 303rd gear for some hollowed out acid house whilst "Roger Funk" is on a killer freestyle tip.

Review: After a summer off to bask in the props for their superb Essential Mix, the Dixon Avenue Basement Jams crew engage label mode once again with this 11th release an introduction to new artist Modini. As with a good majority of artists involved on DABJ, there is next to no information out there on Modiini (take the search engine challenge if you want) but really does it matter when the material on display is this good? There's an obvious reverence for classic Chicago tropes at play throughout, though lead cut "Estate" is the sort of thing you can see Erol Alkan dropping for sure. "Fear" is pretty darn excellent; veering off into abstract Green Velvet meets Mo Fulton territory and Modini gets even rowdier on the flip with the peak time squelcher "Fumble".

Review: Whilst Marquis Hawkes is off being wooed by the likes of Creme Organization and Houndstooth, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams keep their sights squared on the lesser known names with their latest release a debut for Denis Sulta. Apparently an alias for a long time friend of Glasgow institution Rubadub, Sulta's cuts have been soundtracking the summer sets from the DABJ label bosses, Jackmaster and JD Twitch and the chance to scoop them up should not be missed. There's an element of cheek present from the off here, with the mangled treatment of an Oliver Cheatam classic on "Saturday Nite" our personal favourite.

Review: The tried and tested DABJ formula of banging house sounds from unknown quantities perfect for sweaty little basement spaces is adhered to here - if it's aint broke don't fix it right? Who O.D.D. is remains unclear, but the four tracks on his/her/their (delete as appropriate) Drum Patter EP demonstrate an appreciation of slanted and slamming ghetto house music similar to previous DABJ contributor Marquis Hawkes. "Foam Suit" stands out as a detuned, unhinged delight and alongside "Pols" is reminiscent of Gerd's recent modern take on the classic Dancemania sound as Geeeman.

Review: Information on Marquis Hawkes is decidedly scant - the label are simply calling him a new boy - though the standard of production here makes us think he's either established name operating under an alias or in fact a newcomer finally given the platform to unleash his incendiary wares. Either way you really need to check this; the four tracks span tempos and rushing feelings, with the brushed-down knackered red line business of "Housing Project" contrasting nicely with the pitched down Strictly Rhythm deepness of "Marvin" on the A Side. "Teetotal Acid" is reminiscent of Funkineven's recent lysergic excursions while the best might be left till last in "Sealion Woman". A highlight of Pangaea's recent and thoroughly immense RA podcast, the track buries a killer sample deep beneath a mental ghetto house style percussion workout.

Review: Higher Forces At Workfeatures the same kind of steady but deep take on the Dance Mania template by Marquis Hawkes as previously seen on his first release, "Higher Forces" kicks off with some simmering vocals, spring loaded metallic percussion and thick analog stabs, while "Automatic" provides a strung out basement jam whose elastic synth bass and finely chopped samples offer a fresh take on the well worn formula of low-slung disco. "I Want You" offers more shimmering disco deconstruction pushed forward by a raw, stripped back house beat and a savage bass undercarriage, while closer "Divine Intervention" pairs flanged percussion and a deep acid bassline gently interleaved with sun kissed pads. If Tiger & Woods and Parris Mitchell collaborated, the end result might sound something like this EP - which is no bad thing.

Review: Yet another unknown name lines the third release from Dixon Avenue Basement Jams; and just like Marquis Hawkes before him, the unheralded VernoN ensures the Glasgow label's run of deep seated heat continues unfettered. The four track Chicken Dance dovetails nicely with the aforementioned Hawkes DABJ drop, locking onto a deeper approach to the jacking sound across three original productions. The title track is the undoubted highlight here, whilst the distinct Oompa Loompas on the 303 vibe of "The Smoking Hat" had a real marmite effect on the Juno office. Kudos to DABJ for reaching out to Edinburgh label Firecracker and borrowing the undeniable talents of Fudge Fingas for a 808 heavy remix of "Low Control".

Review: Having debuted on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams as part of the Glasgow label's DABJ Allstars Vol.1 last year, Texan Gavin Guthrie returns for duty here with a full record as TX Connect. There's a strobe-friendly feel throughout this DABJammer, as the producer joins the dots between acid house and fluorescent techno, with a few hints of early '90s rave thrown in. This is most obvious on the title track, which expertly fuses a wobbly acid line, ricocheting drum machine hits and a nagging, early '90s riff. "Intramountains" comes swaddled in stormy sound effects, cloaking its hissing rhythms with foreboding techno stabs and backwards samples. As for "Xanadu", it's a deliciously rough-and-ready chunk of late night acid jack.

Review: Having just coaxed more killer material out of that man from Marseille VernoN, Dixon Ave Basement Jams affect a swift return with a similarly hefty package from key artist Marquis Hawkes. The brashly titled Sex, Drugs & House EP maintains Dixon Avenue Basement Jams' position as the sole outlet for original Marquis Hawkes material, despite dalliances with Creme and the excellent Crow Castle Cuts in a remix capacity. The familial bond felt between DABJ and Hawkes evidently continues to inspire the masked producer as this EP contains some of his best work so far! "Get Yo Ass Off My Grass" is a particular highlight and already stands aside "Sealion Woman" as our favourite production in the Marquis Hawkes canon.

Review: Following essential cuts from Jared Wilson, Marquis Hawkes, Vernon and O.D.D, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams present their first various artists release, the self-explanatory DABJ Allstars Vol 1. Two unheralded names share the billing for this one, TX Connect and CT Trax; the former delivers "TX Acid", a tuff 303 jam for sweaty basements, and "Ghetto 972", a slamming piece of house with its eye on the more raucous end of the 90s, while CT Trax presents "Redline", a driving techno belter filled with phased synths, and the standout "Jack Attack", which distils classic Dance Mania down to its most primal rhythmic elements. Probably the most ferocious missive from the Buckfast loving crew yet - essential!
