Hello / Hallo / Hola / Bonjour EP
Chicken Shack - (4:59) 126 BPM Hot
Modman's Song - (5:02) 127 BPM
Review: The renowned Dixon Avenue Basement Jams continues its mission to showcase analogue electronic music with this rough and ready four-tracker from Modman. "Chicken Shack" is a raw workout, with computer game bleeps bouncing off a fat, squelchy bass. "Modman's Song" draws on Chicago house for inspiration. Realised using a jacking rhythm, it features frazzled tones and steely percussion. On "Short Circuit", the Don't affiliate retraces the same territory as "Chicken Shack", this time with chopped up vocal snippets added to the mix. The release changes course, albeit only slightly, on "For Whom The Cowbell Tolls", with Modman dropping a sleazy electro groove, one that is peppered with woozy bleeps.

Murked Man - (5:40) 130 BPM
Pelican Neck - (6:19) 133 BPM
Review: Jerome Hill is one of the UK's most talented DJs and he applies his distinctive,hard-edged style to this debut for DABJ. Putting an emphasis on tough, jacking tracks, Hill in-vokes the spirit of rave on the wild sub-bass frequencies of "Murked Man", while the raw analogue jack of "Pelican Neck" is redolent of the 90s techno experiments of Neil Land-strumm and Tobias Schmidt. It's no surprise that "1994" is also inspired by techno from that period, with clattering drums and insistent tonal bleeps prevailing. "Chinzmania" meanwhile, takes influence from Hill's chopped up DJing style for a rough ghetto track.

Glitchy Belter - (5:08) 125 BPM
Doin' The Damage - (5:59) 124 BPM
Review: Big Miz aka Chris McFarlane follows last year's Jail The Lot! release on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams with an EP that again draws on US house and techno for inspiration. The aptly-named "Glitchy Belter" wraps dense, throbbing bass and ticking, skeletal percussion around a shuffling groove, sounding like a particularly primal Omar-S in the process. On "Doin' The Damage", McFarlane ventures back to the 90s minimalism of DBX to deliver a tweaked analogue rhythm teeming with insistent tonal bleeps. "Spit Dat" is more club-friendly with the Glasgow producer dropping robust bass drums and a searing bass as the backdrop for repetitive vocal loops, while he returns to raw, stripped back mode on "Stay Awake".

Fear-E - "The Shining" - (4:58) 128 BPM Hot
The Wasp - "Pax" - (6:22) 131 BPM
Review: Fear-E aka Scott McKay teams up with The Wasp to follow last year's "Posh End Sponk" release on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. "The Shining" is a tough stomper that resounds to eerie organ riffs and busy vocal samples, while on "Pax", the collaborators head in a different, darker direction, with eerie stabs and ghetto shout outs underpinned by a steely, shuffling rhythm. "Chucky B" is more abrasive and visceral as they throw down a banging groove that underpins a busy call and shout sample, while "Kokamen" sees them explore the kind of bugged out techno you would expect Green Velvet to deliver.

CYT - (5:52) 126 BPM
Dalm Right - (6:40) 120 BPM
Played by: Claude VonStroke
Review: After 30 releases, label owners Kenny Wasp and Dan Monox aka DABJ team up with Big Miz to finally put out their own material. "CYT" is a bruising, jacking affair, littered with vocal snatches and dropping into a psychedelic synth. "Dalm Right" pays homage to Chicago house, with a gurgling acid line underpinning raw kettle drums and an indistinct male vocal, but a similarly tripped out synth lurks in the background. "Eternal Damnation" is more stripped back, but this time a deranged preacher man-style vocal rains down damnation over a warbling acid line. On "Do The Damn Thing", the collaborators pick up the pace, for a slinky, linear groove that sits somewhere between Chicago jack and the sleek, linear rhythms of early Detroit techno.

Jump On The House Train - (5:27) 125 BPM Hot
A New Day - (5:21) 131 BPM
Review: Fear-E's fourth outing for Dixon Avenue Basement Jams sees him deliver his biggest track so far. Inspired in equal measure by jacking Chicago house and the low-end menace of Detroit artists like Suburban Knight, the vocal-led "Jump On The House Train" is a superb, slightly menacing slice of house music. "A New Day" and "Skuddy Deflektor" follow in a similar vein, albeit without vocals, with Fear-E laying down dark sub-bass tones and rolling kettle drums to devastating effect. Closing track "Green Eyed Monster" sees him edge closer to techno, with a frazzled bass, acrid acid and waves of abrasive percussion making for a powerful peak time track.

Revenge - (5:12) 126 BPM
Forest Wave - (5:45) 128 BPM
Review: Hissman is the alter ego for Fabio Monesi, who runs the Hardmoon label - and now he delivers some raw, machine techno for Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. The title track kick-starts the release with a low-slung, grinding jam, centred on a bleak bass, while on "Forest Wave", Monesi ups the ante for a linear, steely rhythm that is supported by hammering kicks and populated by alien squeaks and squiggles. "Fragment" is a mean jacker featuring percussive blasts and deft filters, while on closing track "Zulu Tribe", Hissman retreats to deeper terrain with the kind of layered, deep techno that calls to mind classic UR.

Rush Hour Traffic - (5:46) 128 BPM
Moonmin - (4:57) 117 BPM
Review: Following a few-action packed years, Mark Hawkins brings his house project back to the label where it all began - Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. Remaining true to the Marquis Hawkes sound, "Rush Hour Traffic" revolves around rough and raw kicks, grainy bass pulses and slow-release siren riffs. On "Moonmin", he brings the tempo down to drop a synth-led groove, while on "Bodywork", Hawkins takes inspiration from Chicago's more minimal sound. Repetitive tones, jacking rhythms and insistent chord stabs make for the kind of primal affair that one would associate with Lester Fitzpatrick. Hawkins remains in this mode on closing track "Marauding Acid", where grimy acid lines and eerie synths recall DJ Skull.

Our House - (7:21) 126 BPM

Review: The big man on campus returns! Fast becoming a staple on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, the Glaswegian producer throws down an impressive full length demonstrating the diversity within his musical repertoire - and count us in as fans. From the deep and soulful late night house of "Our House" which will have you 'doin' the wiggly worm', Afrobeat meets Innervisions styled melodic house on "Hammond Groove" while "High Heavens" explores classic neon-lit electro aesthetics from the '80s. There's even some harder stuff in there, like demonstrated on "The Great Beast" that's a slow burning early '90s style techno jam (which blows the bloody doors off!) and "Gear Tension" which throws in more hallmarks of the golden era such as 303 acid and Joey Beltran styled menstasms.

Temptation (feat Josh Caffe) - (8:10) 128 BPM Hot
Exit Drums (extended mix) - (7:19) 126 BPM
Review: Posthuman aka Rich Bevan and Josh Doherty debut on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams with a vocal-led release. The UK pair have recruited Josh Caffe to work with them, and his soulful tones work well with these hardware jams. On "Preach", his exhortations unravel over raw drums, a predatory bass and lurid acid lines, while "Temptation" is even darker. The 303 sound is more intense, the hi hats crash in mercilessly and Caffe's vocals morph into moans and howls. It all adds up to a hugely enjoyable but dark ride into Chicago jak. The only arrangement devoid of Caffe's contribution is "Exit Drums", but its fat bass and grimy snares more than compensate.

What Ya Gonna - (8:05) 124 BPM
Played by: Fear-E, Rave Energy
Review: This is the second full Fear-E release on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and brilliantly recalls the glory days of Detroit techno and Chicago house. "Back to Basics" revolves around a jacking rhythm and a predatory bass that support a sweaty vocal. It's a classy basement track. On "What Ya Gonna", the tempo moves up a few notches as steely percussion and minimal beats accompany a lo-fi bleep sequence and eerie rave stabs, while "Band of Rubber" is a noisy, muddy groove. None of them can compare to "Sunrize in Avalon" however, which sees Fear-E appropriate the kind of liquid acid-soaked deep techno that Nu Era used to specialise in.

Review: Big Miz left the cherished bosom of the Dixon Avenue Basement Jams crew to guest on friend Wheelman's new Stereotone label. Here he returns to DABJ with his second solo single. Title track "The Bomb" is something of a killer, with Miz lacing a bouncy, funk-fuelled drum machine rhythm with wild but jazzy synth lines, warehouse-friendly stabs and bleep style electronics. Elsewhere, "Sponk 900" is a breathless, ghetto-house inspired slammer, while "You Lose" is a raw and wonky fusion of noisy but funky electronics and thrusting machine drums. "Break The Law", a more hypnotic but no less guttural jack-track reminiscent of early 2000s Chicago tech-house, completes a fine package.

Review: Chiwax welcomes DJ Haus aka Rupert Cogan (the hardest working man in show business!) head of Uttu & Hot Haus Records. He teams up with Mak & Pasteman here on this killer EP. He's released already on the respected Clone Jack for Daze series, Creme Organization and of course his own imprints to name a few. The new three tracker comes around in good Dance Mania style. Chicago House meets UK Garage. First it is the early rave of "X-Mod" reflecting a love of all things early Plus 8, while "Bang It" continues on with some Relief Records style Chicago hard house shenanigans the relentless jack-attach-drum-track that is "Drive MF".

ODD - "Stew" - (7:00) 125 BPM Hot
Modini - "Throbbing Thistle" - (4:12) 126 BPM
Review: A third session of DABJ all-stars is upon us with supreme club cut outs from ODD, Neil Landstrumm's Modini collaboration and Casio Royale, who at this stage have only ever released with this label. ODD's "Stew" is a classic Roland drum track with dubby acid flecks thrown in for good measure while Modini turn up the heat with an electrifying peak-time banger with a rather amusing title in "Throbbing Thistle" - plus some retro-rave throwbacks. Casio Royale's double dropping B-side serves up a Geeman-like "Rubberband" styled track with "The Rhythm" while "Work This" is this 12"s sweaty hit with a production you could imagine going off at Ron Hardy's Muzik Box.

Communing With Ghosts EP
Pheo Acid - (6:57) 130 BPM
Acid River - (6:50) 127 BPM
Review: Glasgow imprint Dixon Avenue Basement Jams are really on a roll at the moment aren't they! After some great releases by the likes of Casio Royale and Big Miz they now present the return of Detroit producer Jared Wilson, who last appeared for the label back in 2012. The Communing With Ghosts EP features "Pheo Acid" which is a dark and epic 303 excursion that will no doubt appeal to hardcore fans of the classic Chicago sound. "Acid River" (getting the theme now?) is more restrained with the relentless squelch of that little silver box, but still pumps along at a nice pace. On the flip we've next got "Smartbar Acid" which we really can imagine sounds like a night up at the infamous Windy City institution. Finally the title track might break the pattern of names thus far but not the sound (thankfully) and it's definitely the most high octane acid track on here that would make even DJ Pierre himself stand up and notice.

Denis Sulta - "TIME 4 PRAYER" - (5:21) 128 BPM Hot
Fear E - "Candi's Quadra" - (6:52) 120 BPM
Review: Following the success of their first all-star EP, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams has once again assembled the crew for a second throw-down. Dennis Sutra goes for the jugular on opener "TIME 4 PRAYER", where ghetto-house style cut-up vocal snippets ride a thumping, 128 BPM groove, while "Fear E" reaches for the classic house vocal samples on the low-slung warehouse jack of "Candi's Quadra". Speaking of jack-tracks, you'll struggle to find more muscular thrills than the fuzzy electronics, stomping beats and hedonistic intent of CT Trax's "Walk For Me". The same outfit's surging acid jam, "Toxic", pulls down the curtain on another killer DABJ release.

Review: Dixon Avenue Basement Jams has vowed to make 2016 their "most productive year to date". They've certainly started in impressive style, with this collection of drum machine driven, basement bothering box jams. It's the work of label "new boy" Casio Royale (we chuckled, at least), it wildly swings between clattering sweatiness and ragged, acid-flecked wildness. He starts with the relentless throb of "Hell House", before venturing into heavier territory with the distorted synths and clattering percussion of "Fun House". Flip for the 8-bit electronics, raging acid lines and fizzing rhythms of "Joyrider", and the undulating acid trip of the deliciously psychedelic "I Finish".

Review: Dixon Avenue Basement Jams: accept no substitute. The Glasgow label brings back local lad Big Miz on Safari Park Nonsense, following up last year's brilliant Midnight Man Handle. First track "Foundations" is a snarling acid house jam with booming 808 rhythms and a vocal repeating the titles very refrain. "Morse Dance" is more traditional deep house fare that fits in with the current status quo while "Urgent" returns to the fierce 808 heavy house with US influences with some absolutely smashing male vocals. Finally "Winger" goes out all guns blazing and reintroducing some 303 groove and a shed load of swing and shuffle to boot.

Review: Glasgow's Dixon Avenue Basement Jams offer us some more of their proper straight up house vibes; the way they were intended! Big Miz is up this time around with Midnight Man Handle. "Good Things" gets straight down to business with its stomping, swing fuelled beat and buzzing organ leads, proudly proclaiming "I don't play around with girls like that!" Enough said. Next up the soulful deepness of "Electrolites" still packs a hefty punch and you'll need your fill of said enzymes after dancing up a sweat to this one. On the B side there's no more Mr. Nice Guy; "Solange" throws together nasty 303 acid, a manic cowbell and some truly disturbed samples. Finally "Wurx" sounds like more of a restrained warehouse techno jam with its huge synth line, booming and hissing 909 and truly dark atmosphere.

Review: Whilst Marquis Hawkes is off being wooed by the likes of Creme Organization and Houndstooth, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams keep their sights squared on the lesser known names with their latest release a debut for Denis Sulta. Apparently an alias for a long time friend of Glasgow institution Rubadub, Sulta's cuts have been soundtracking the summer sets from the DABJ label bosses, Jackmaster and JD Twitch and the chance to scoop them up should not be missed. There's an element of cheek present from the off here, with the mangled treatment of an Oliver Cheatam classic on "Saturday Nite" our personal favourite.

Review: The tried and tested DABJ formula of banging house sounds from unknown quantities perfect for sweaty little basement spaces is adhered to here - if it's aint broke don't fix it right? Who O.D.D. is remains unclear, but the four tracks on his/her/their (delete as appropriate) Drum Patter EP demonstrate an appreciation of slanted and slamming ghetto house music similar to previous DABJ contributor Marquis Hawkes. "Foam Suit" stands out as a detuned, unhinged delight and alongside "Pols" is reminiscent of Gerd's recent modern take on the classic Dancemania sound as Geeeman.

Marvin - (6:55) 117 BPM
Review:  Information on Marquis Hawkes is decidedly scant - the label are simply calling him a new boy - though the standard of production here makes us think he's either established name operating under an alias or in fact a newcomer finally given the platform to unleash his incendiary wares. Either way you really need to check this; the four tracks span tempos and rushing feelings, with the brushed-down knackered red line business of "Housing Project" contrasting nicely with the pitched down Strictly Rhythm deepness of "Marvin" on the A Side. "Teetotal Acid" is reminiscent of Funkineven's recent lysergic excursions while the best might be left till last in "Sealion Woman". A highlight of Pangaea's recent and thoroughly immense RA podcast, the track buries a killer sample deep beneath a mental ghetto house style percussion workout.

Automatic - (7:15) 111 BPM
Review: Higher Forces At Workfeatures the same kind of steady but deep take on the Dance Mania template by Marquis Hawkes as previously seen on his first release, "Higher Forces" kicks off with some simmering vocals, spring loaded metallic percussion and thick analog stabs, while "Automatic" provides a strung out basement jam whose elastic synth bass and finely chopped samples offer a fresh take on the well worn formula of low-slung disco. "I Want You" offers more shimmering disco deconstruction pushed forward by a raw, stripped back house beat and a savage bass undercarriage, while closer "Divine Intervention" pairs flanged percussion and a deep acid bassline gently interleaved with sun kissed pads. If Tiger & Woods and Parris Mitchell collaborated, the end result might sound something like this EP - which is no bad thing.

The four track Chicken Dance dovetails nicely with the aforementioned Hawkes DABJ drop, locking onto a deeper approach to the jacking sound across three original productions. The title track is the undoubted highlight here, whilst the distinct Oompa Loompas on the 303 vibe of "The Smoking Hat" had a real marmite effect on the Juno office. Kudos to DABJ for reaching out to Edinburgh label Firecracker and borrowing the undeniable talents of Fudge Fingas for a 808 heavy remix of "Low Control".

Review: Having debuted on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams as part of the Glasgow label's DABJ Allstars Vol.1 last year, Texan Gavin Guthrie returns for duty here with a full record as TX Connect. There's a strobe-friendly feel throughout this DABJammer, as the producer joins the dots between acid house and fluorescent techno, with a few hints of early '90s rave thrown in. This is most obvious on the title track, which expertly fuses a wobbly acid line, ricocheting drum machine hits and a nagging, early '90s riff. "Intramountains" comes swaddled in stormy sound effects, cloaking its hissing rhythms with foreboding techno stabs and backwards samples. As for "Xanadu", it's a deliciously rough-and-ready chunk of late night acid jack.

The brashly titled Sex, Drugs & House EP maintains Dixon Avenue Basement Jams' position as the sole outlet for original Marquis Hawkes material, despite dalliances with Creme and the excellent Crow Castle Cuts in a remix capacity. The familial bond felt between DABJ and Hawkes evidently continues to inspire the masked producer as this EP contains some of his best work so far! Two unheralded names share the billing for this one, TX Connect and CT Trax; the former delivers "TX Acid", a tuff 303 jam for sweaty basements, and "Ghetto 972", a slamming piece of house with its eye on the more raucous end of the 90s, while CT Trax presents "Redline", a driving techno belter filled with phased synths, and the standout "Jack Attack", which distils classic Dance Mania down to its most primal rhythmic elements. "Why Trust" is a militant 303 jam that keeps building energy right until its closure. Following this, we have "Unknown Desires", which also uses acid as its main ingredient but does so more subtly and applies raw, unforgiving drum machine percussions around it. Without once becoming trashy the techincolour dazzle of his synth work bursts out of New Beats, demanding you sit up and pay attention. There's plenty of different moods on offer, from the loping swinging acid of "Dark River" to the peak-time thrust of "Awakening In Antwerp"s new beat laced electro-techno. Review: Ruffgarden is Sulta's second release on Scottish label Dixon Avenue and it is very much in keeping with the imprint's quest to put out 'raw shit'. In this instance, it's mainly music inspired from 90s house and techno. "She Make Me Feel Like I Never Sinned" is a drum-heavy affair littered with samples - including sax stabs and Middle Eastern motifs - alongside nifty filtering. "Duh Yuh Luv Meh" is more pacey and combines the skipping rhythm of 2-step and a repetitive vocal sample. Best of all though is the title track, where Sulta unites the steely rhythms of Mark Broom with the widescreen synths of Carl Craig for a euphoric techno workout.

Review: It only seems like a few months ago that Dixon Avenue Basement Jams appeared out of nowhere, brandishing some brash ghetto-flecked house business from some unknown called Marquis Hawkes on a vividly colourful debut. But look here the Glaswegian label are racking double figures on the DABJ cat no scale and celebrating in requisite fashion with some fresh hotness from the now Berlin-based Hawkes housed in a label tote bag. Having established a sound across his previous DABJ releases, it's nice to see Hawkes try and succeed with something a bit different here. Lead cut "Honey Kisses" is on a blessed carnival tip and pushed forth by some killer broken beat programming, whilst "Let's Do It" is an ascendant slab of piano-flecked boogie house. Face down and "House Is My Castle" is more familiar MH fare, slipping into 303rd gear for some hollowed out acid house whilst "Roger Funk" is on a killer freestyle tip.

Estate - (3:56) 122 BPM Hot
Fear - (3:56) 122 BPM
Review: After a summer off to bask in the props for their superb Essential Mix, the Dixon Avenue Basement Jams crew engage label mode once again with this 11th release an introduction to new artist Modini. As with a good majority of artists involved on DABJ, there is next to no information out there on Modiini (take the search engine challenge if you want) but really does it matter when the material on display is this good? There's an obvious reverence for classic Chicago tropes at play throughout, though lead cut "Estate" is the sort of thing you can see Erol Alkan dropping for sure. "Fear" is pretty darn excellent; veering off into abstract Green Velvet meets Mo Fulton territory and Modini gets even rowdier on the flip with the peak time squelcher "Fumble".

How To Travel The Universe (Without A Flying Saucer)
Ignition - (5:09) 125 BPM
One Night In Tanzania - (6:24) 127 BPM
Review: The mysterious 'man from Marseille' VernoN contributes a second single of rattling, unhinged techno for Glasgow's excellent Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and we think this might be the best release from the label yet! With a title like How To Travel The Universe (Without A Flying Saucer)it's definitely the best named DABJ platter thus far. Musically, the four tracks here build on the instant gratification of VernoN's debut missive, if anything showing a tougher side to the Frenchman. "One Night In Tanzania" is perhaps the stand out track, nestling snugly in the interzone between deep and deranged whilst "How To Buiild A Pyramid" and "Nightmares" sit steadfastly in the latter camp. The former is all jagged acid lines shooting out in various directions amidst cascading drums whilst the latter is pure jacking intensity.

Tart EP
Budgie - (4:29) 122 BPM
Romance - (4:44) 123 BPM Hot
Review: Last year's Turk 12" from the unheralded production unit was one of our favourite releases on the Glasgow label (and yours too on the basis of how swiftly it sold out) so it's great to see him/her/them back with some fresh cuts. The four cuts on Tart EP suggests Modini have been expanding their production focus, with an acid heavy rendition of Modern Romance's "Salsa Rapsody" the highlight of the A-side. On the flip, the riotous "Cisco" sits somewhere between ghetto house rowdiness and the sub loving throb of UK bassline, whilst "Europa" veers off into jittery Italo disco territory. The more versatile DJs will love this one.
