Play With Lies
Played by: Future Bones
Review: After blowing us all away with a delightful misfit of a debut for the Domestica label, the Cult Club collective return to the imprint with yet more of their mild-mannered coldwaves for the current generation. Taking inspiration from the best of the synth pop era, this lot provide everything you need to hit maximum levels of neo romantic nostalgia, and it all stats with the house-centric vibes of "All The People", a tune that reminds us of New Order's early experiments. However, it doesn't start and end there; these eight tracks are a perfectly balanced voyage across the more danceable end of the post-punk spectrum, and they'll no doubt please more than one category of digger.

That's The Body
Review: Domestica continues its on-going trawl through the archives of S.M Nurse, an Amsterdam-based synth-wave trio who recorded a serious amount of material between 1980 and '83 before all but vanishing. That's The Body gathers together a quartet of dancefloor-friendly excursions. On the A you'll find the stylized minimal wave/electrofunk fusion of "That's The Body" and wavy, high-tempo thrust of "Off & On", both of which originally appeared on the band's earliest release. On the flip you'll find two previously unreleased versions of similarly vintage tracks: the alien synths, woozy B-52s vocals and tough machine drums of "Mort Automatique", and the hazy melancholy of "Frutta", which boasts a particularly druggy arpeggio bassline.

The Collapse Of Ancient Funk Vol 2
Review: Barcelona-based Domestica deserves praise for releasing a second instalment of left of centre music from 80s band Son of Sam. The metallic drums and cut-up samples on "Hothouse" sound like a warped take on Art of Noise, while "Second Wasted Second" combines Siouxsie Sioux wails with white boy funk and wah wah guitar. In stark contrast are the noisy blasts and ambient, swirling sounds of "Come Here, Handsome", but it's only a temporary divergence as the Linn Drum kicks back in on the electro funk of "Playground" and "You Got Me". It makes for one of this year's more endearing reissues.
