Review: Taking us back 30 years to one of the most fruitful times in electronic music and UK culture, Dread don Ray Keith returns to a collection originally released on Kniteforce on vinyl a few years back. Available for the first time digitally, it's loaded with specials and rarities. Highlights include the jazzy rumbles on 'Midnite 99' the powerful Pink Floyd sampling 'Sing Time VIP' and that evergreen VIP of Keith's cult anthem 'The Chopper'. All this and plenty more, it doesn't get more timeless than this!

Chopper (Diligent Fingers VIP remix) - (4:37) 175 BPM
Review: Dread returns with an absolute scorcher for your summer sessions and big arena action; Diligent Fingers with his brazen, blazing VIP has a go at Keith and Nookie's seminal 'Chopper' anthem. Giving it a whole new turbo charged twist, Dili has done Dread big big justice here.

Review: Dread at the controls! The bearded baron returns with his umpteenth studio album and it's another wild trip into the timeless jungle rabbit hole. From the opening shimmers and ripples and strangely timed vocal sample of 'Cybertron' to the final rushes of the euphoric closer 'Sunrise', it's one of his most consistent, soulful and musical bodies in years. Other highlights include the jazzy introspection of 'Helm's Deep' and the raw funk and classic samples of 'Rudeboy 22'. Fly high.

Ray Keith Presents: Celebrating 28 Years Of Dread
Chopper (Shy FX remix) - (6:04) 170 BPM Hot
Chopper (Ray Keiths Dirty Chopper remix) - (5:48) 163 BPM
Review: Fresh from writing an epic book about his turbulent life and the foundations of jungle drum & bass, the Dread captain Ray Keith now looks back over a remarkable 28 years of his imprint. One of the few labels that has stood the test of time and consistently releases music every single year come rain or shine, he's kicking off the celebrations with this iconic release from 1996 - 'Chopper'. Two versions, both legendary - Shy FX's remix was the blueprint for a new flavour of jump-up at the time while Ray's own Dirty Chopper rub goes back to that breakbeat jungle sounds that made Dread what it was in the first place. Historical business.

Review: Ray Keith is back on the road with his archive series, in which he digs up old classics and shows us some of the sounds of his past. We can assume that Ray Keith's archives are absolutely enormous, given the sheer amount of time that he's spent producing, curating and releasing music, and the strength of this LP demonstrates that best of all. The eponymously titled 'Dread Sound' shows off what Keith is about - roughshod, rolling reece basses and fractious junglist beats, a basement-worthy sound palette that feels both nostalgic and right up to date. 'Filthy Jazz' is another highlight, as stomping drums come into conflict with funky stabs and melodic notes, a juxtaposition of sounds that works to great effect. Big.

The Chopper Remixes XXV
The Chopper (Bou remix) - (5:12) 175 BPM Hot
The Chopper (Traumatize VIP) - (4:46) 174 BPM
Review: Ladies and gentlemen can we have your attention please? We are now ready for take-off so please fasten your seatbelts! At long last, the Dark Soldier unleashes two of the most in-demand remixes of one of his most seminal tracks 'Chopper'. Famed for its massive Shy FX remix back in the day, once again the tradition is maintained as Bou and Traumatize bring the seminal vibe into the 2020s. Both now pretty legendary on dub, Bou brings the bubbles and Zinc-like swing while Traumatize brings the twisted chunky swagger. Essential.

Review: They don't get much more legendary than Ray Keith's Dread Recordings, an imprint which has been in the game for years and, unsurprisingly, Keith is packing a shedload of lost dubs and dusty tapes. This is the fifth edition of the release of such tapes, and it's a trip down both memory lane and a road characterised by shuddering breaks and rough but roaringly good basslines. 'Phantom Dread' is especially good, as a ridiculously sharp snare rolls out with eerie precision, before a choppy structure pans through a litany of tumbling breaks and spooky atmospherics. Typically Keith, extremely wicked.

Review: The Dark Soldier continues to bite down on 2020 with force. With his album 'Prophecy' setting to the tone of this strange year, he continues to steadily unleash previously unreleased digital versions of his many, many bangers. All shades of the Dread controller are present and correct as we're whisked from blazing rave ('The One Armed Swordsman') to cosmic rollers ('You're Special') by way of nasty, dubby juggernauts ('Don Gorgon') and emotional space crusades ('Burning Me Up') Each cut fresh from the archives and never before available beyond those lucky to cut a plate at Music House back in the day, this is the sound of one of drum & bass jungle's most influential pioneers.

Ray Keith - "Renegade" (T>I Minimal VIP) - (5:55) 175 BPM Hot
Dark Soldier - "Dark Soldier" (Benny L remix) - (4:59) 58 BPM
Played by: Euphonique, DJ Hybrid, Hex
Review: Ray Keith's Dread Recordings has paid host to a litany of memorable tracks and infamous artists over the years, and this week's remix single is no different. Featuring T>I and Benny L on remix duties for two tracks by Ray Keith and Dark Soldier, it's a release whose finger is firmly tacked onto the pulse of the scene. T>I's minimal VIP of 'Renegade' slams from start to finish, with delicately placed piano riffs moving apart for its smash and grab portrayal of T>I's signature style. Benny goes junglist on the flip side, and 'Dark Soldier' is as moody as it is aggressive. Top form here.

Review: Dread bossman and jungle pioneer Ray Keith takes us on a serious trip with this emphatic sign-out to the decade... And a hint at the damage he's about to cause with his album in 2020. "You're My Angel" takes the lead. A deeper, personal piece with pop finesse and authentic emotion, Ray reveals some impressive song writing and singing skills on this complete crossover curveball. For balance, "All That Jazz" and "Stem Cell" go in hard; the former hits similar cosmic frequencies as the likes of Mark System and Need For Mirrors with its juicy Detroit inspired synths, the latter is just a good old-fashioned techno-inspired grizzle. Heads down Dread business... Just how we like it.

Black Friday - (6:06) 57 BPM
Review: From the outset, this release screams ragga sonics. From the artwork to the basslines, Section's Step Off EP is a work full of rusty jungle vibes and roughed-up edges, each bar of each tune coming together to make this un-sophisticated yet banging EP. The title tune features Junior Red and sets the tone for the whole release: reggae sounds and diving low-frequency shakes. There's a definite element of minimalist force throughout, though, 'Mad As Hell' exemplifying Section's ability to take things down a dark and dirty turn. Special mention to 'Black Friday' for bringing up the rear with some pristine jungle work, combining both heaviness and lightness to great effect.
