Review: DNBA dust off their big black & yellow tank once again and roll down the streets blazing out bass by way of PolyRom a new act who's so far only released on a Ram Records VA. Check these and it will be no surprise why this cat's dealing with big guns at such a burgeoning chapter of this alias... These kick hard. 'Rumbling Bass' has a tightly coiled fluctuating bassline and sharp steppy beats while 'Techno Syndrome' brings sheer uplifting on the intro before flipping into a funky, springy bassline that just won't quit. Great to see Drum&BassArena backing exciting new talent like this!
Review: Inimitable South African talent Stay-C jumps aboard the good ship Drum&BassArena with two high impact dancefloor blow-outs. 'Dope Business' is most definitely dope and most definitely the business as the bassline groans and rumbles like we're back in Bristol 2002. 'Fresh Air' maintains the energy with a little more spring in the groove and contemporary rave energy. Both absolutely kill it. Big up Stay-C.
Review: 25 years in the game! The world's longest-standing D&B platform continues to represent drum & bass culture in the best and most upfront way possible with this incredible collection of tracks from right across the whole scene. Loaded with legends and new generation cats alike, with all ages and styles in between, the album ranges from the likes of Bukem's first release in many years - 'Flip The Narrative' to J Majik's hardcore-heaving 'Blake' by way of Bcee & Dynamite's 'Run', A.M.C's carnivalesque 'Brazil' and Visages & Kyrist's squelchy, dark funk piece 'Mirai'. These are just some of the many, many highlights on offer. With names like Particle, Digital & Charla Green, Ben Snow, Athena, Trex and so many more, this is a fantastic way to celebrate a quarter of a century in the game. Here's to the next 25 years.
Review: Up next on the legendary Drum & Bass Arena label is the ascendant Tim Reaper, a multifaceted producer based in London who has released on labels as diverse as Banoffee Pies, Lobster Theremin and Hooversound in recent times. He teams up with Gabriel Au aka Gremlinz, who is fresh off a couple of killer EPs on UVB-76's DROOGS and the result is "Full Moon" - a soulful and emotive expression in intelligent jungle with jazzy flourishes that is reminiscent of the classic Metalheadz sound. Second offering "Haunta" switches gears and delves into the sound of the dark side circa the mid '90s, for some proper rolling drama.
Review: Long from the days LTJ Bukem was flexing between gigs in his Honda Civic, the artist returns to Drum & Bass Arena for his first solo single in years. Making up part of Drum & Bass Arena's 25th anniversary series of releases, Bukem keeps it liquid, classy and housey as can be. Introducing trademark orchestral elements to the mix, "Flip The Narrative" sees Bukem throw down a smooth vibe of sustained strings, melodic percussion and motoring basslines, with a touch of Blade Runner synth and rolling rhythms for that extra 2000s effect.
Review: One for the real junglists out there: Drum&Bass Arena are honoured to welcome legend of the scene Digital who teams up with rising Sheffield-based producer Charla Green for the label's 25th anniversary series with two heavyweight tracks. Very much on the liquid tip, the spellbinding "On The Grind" is an expression in covert breakbeat intelligence that is reminiscent of classic the more detailed and complex sonic expressions from the turn of the millenium, while "Stylee" is a throwback to the jungle heyday of the mid '90s and will step you into a frenzy with its furious Amen riddims.
