Review: Section has landed on Dubsoul Recordings for a really nice single, a double-tracker that's grounded in a sense of junglism but which extends beyond your average jungle cut. The percussion across both tunes is next-level, with a hypnotically intricate tapestry of bongos, snares and kicks which all sit idyllically alongside each other. 'Pushover' has more space in the arrangement and subtler back end, but 'Offshore' injects an element of melancholia with the sound of seagulls and waves washing up on the shore. We'll let you decide which is better.
Review: Comrads in bass: Dubsoul rallies up the soldiers for its first V/A collection since 2017. Packing pure exclusives from a whole gang of on-point rollersmiths and stepper surgeons including Kumarachi, RMS, Epicentre, Conrad Subs, Veak and more, expect nothing but trouble... The drums on Kumarachi, Veak & RMS's "In Spirit" will slice bones in two, Conrad Subs "Inglorious" will have you on such a heads down hypnotic trip you'll think it's 97 all over again, Epicentre's "One Eight Seven" is a total murderation station the second that Micky Finn & Aphrodite-style bass juice oozes out of the speakers while Veak's idea of alternative medicine isn't so much as homeopathic but psychopathic as the steppy kills drill into the deepest corners of your soul. And that's not even half of this epic EP. Solidarity!
Tribesman Riddim (The Untouchables remix) - (5:15) 172 BPM
Close - "Funeral Talk" - (5:45) 57 BPM
Review: If you've been paying attention to these reviews, you'll know that RMS is a regular name. Well on this release he's been given the remix treatment by The Untouchables, who actually are untouchable in their remake of 'Tribesman Riddim' and the way in which they've transformed it into a moody, downtempo stepper that lacks penetration simply because it doesn't need it to excel. Close rounds out the single with Funeral Talk, a slightly dark title that's mirrored in the ambience of this tune, with its rattling percussion and dark, twisting basses that seemingly curl up out of nowhere. Very original single, this.
Sound Shifter - "In The Air" (Dark Clouds VIP) - (6:05) 175 BPM
Review: "RVSTD" sees Dubsoul kick off a brand new remix series. And if you've been following their releases so far you will already know that they're not messing around. First up Section takes RMS & Close's "Extracts" from last year and builds it up with layers of percussion and a whole level of roaring toxic mid 2000s style bass. Dig deeper for Sound Shifter's own VIP of "In The Air" where a once dreamy vibe is given a storm drenched jungle refocus. Dark clouds have silver linings.
Review: Shocking scenes at Dubsoul Recordings this week as anonymous jungle operator Sureshock dented their discography with explosive results. Eye witnesses at the mastering studio provided accounts of high voltage low end frequencies electrocuting people at first listen on "Reasons To Live", samurai swords cutting through speakers and slicing jugulars on "Cut Throat Dub" and ghouls rising through the mixing desk on "Spooks". With a previous criminal record on the likes of Dread, 117, Asbo and Machinist, and no known whereabouts right now, the public are warned to stay safe and shock the hell out at all possible opportunities. Banging? You can be sure of it!
Review: Dirt mode initiated: following his firing Deep In The Jungle EP, overtly active fast riser Conrad Subs continues to chomp into 2018 with wild rolling abandon on this debut for Dubsoul. Flexing a full dynamic spectrum, we're treated to all shades of his dark low end psyche. The rolling jungle flavours of the title track, the stripped back tribalism of "Double Deuce", the clever twostep breakbeat switch on up "Puzzle Box" and the all-out balls-out amen roughage of "Stuck To The Wall" with JOE. Stinking through and through.
Review: Subwoofah's Epicentre continues to stretch his legs in all jungle directions with this debut for RMS's Dubsoul Recordings. Two crispy pieces of work, it's Epicentre in all his fiery colours; "Serial Sound Killa" sends for the hacksaws with its rattling breaks and filthy belching bass groans while "We Done Tun Up" flips the vibe switch for something altogether deeper, smokier and jazzy. Watch out for those far-away sax tones and don't get entangled in his twisted fills. Epicentre really is killing it with his productions right now.
Review: For this one we are bringing you some of Canada's finest jungle music, courtesy of RMS & Dubsoul Recordings. This two tracker is great way for the now established label to smash the doors down into the new year following a very lucrative 2017. Armed with a brand new Mackie mixing board, RMS goes wild with the A side entitled 'Fracture' which takes a half time jungle approach, coupled with angelic stabs and classic rolling sub frequencies. On the flip side we have the more traditional jungle arrangement of 'Loversball' which is a maze of chopped precisely chopped breaks and atmospheric soulful vocal leads.
Review: RMS has slayed 2017 across the board with killer joins on Deep In The Jungle, Liquid Drops, Audio Addict and of course his own Dubsoul Recordings imprint. Signing out the year in savage style, he once again enlists the skills of fellow Canadian DJ Close for two brutal, jungle documents. "Extracts" takes us back to the late 90s with their Headzy reese romp and a powerful, sense-tingling cymbal-smashing break. "Nuh Ramp" is all about the variations and switches between the breaks, keeping you on your toes and moving as the darker alien textures wheeze, grizzle and hypnotise in the background. Authentic.
Review: No, you haven't accidentally stumbled on the latest article of ComputerWorld, Msdos and DBase are two well established and well respected solo artists who have come together to collaborate on this release. With both men having released on major imprints since the 90's, their music is rich with the history of dnb, and speaks volumes for their immense experience and understanding. 'Chords' opens the two track EP with spell-boundingly wondrous magic, creating a dark and creepy space, which enchantingly lights up bar by bar. Fleshed out with cascades of crashing amens bringing an intense energy and a low grumbling sub which adds a real attitude. 'Darker than Dark' mixes eerie atmospherics with a funky guitar and an onslaught of perfectly executed breaks, evil sounding stabs of mutation occasionally slice though bringing with them another layer of terror to the track.
