Review: Theus Mago's Duro label decides to look back on the last-half decade with glee in this Hard Five Retrospective bringing together a huge compilation to help remind us what life's gonna be like when we're allowed back on the dancefloor! Not just bells and whistles, Duro keeps its flavours deep with cuts from Rigopolar in the Jean Michel Jarre/coldwave vibes of "Espiral" matched by the heavy beats and juicy basslines of Max Jones's "Poche". Earlier on you'll find some rare Tyu jams - our pick being the Espacio remix to "Stephen Hawking" - next to a selection of choice Bufi cuts (we recommended the Mio remix), with Mago going deep himself in the groove-centric "Luna". Other dope jams include Bruha's 808-driven "Ladra", Sascha Funke's remix to Motel77 and Rina & Benji killer workout "Koshmaro".

Review: Mexican tastemaker Mystery Affair is the man at the controls for this small but perfectly formed "celebration of diversity and freedom". It's an international affair, with Mystery Affair offering up tracks from French, Argentinian, Italian and Mexican producers (amongst others). There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the thumping beats and echoing lead lines of Villasenor's 'Emergency Loop' and the warehouse-ready tropical house cheeriness of 'Calypso' by Fernanda Arrau, to the neo-trance rush of Mala Ika's 'Yumis Kopfstoss', the chugging trip that is Invertida's 'Rertorno', and the pitched-up bleep techno-goes-to-Tresor heaviness of 'The Sky Belongs To Everyone' by SUSS.

Review: Legend in the scene Theus Mago - known for releases on Optimo Music, Futureboogie, Pets and Kill The DJ Records before that - returns to his own Duro label. Three bangers and three remixes later we have Dog Is Calling You. Keeping the dominatrix vibe of the EP subtle in "Asesino Sicotico", Theus Mago turns it up to 11 on the techno-meter in the title track, with Die Wilde Jagd going Soviet France with its remix. "Papa En Roy" cruises through like a 7-minute fly over the darker realms of Italo Disco - that's given a gnarly drum machine and synth remix by Alinka. Peter Invasion & Gregor Habicht get stingy in their version, with the 'Hazme Famosa' mix of "Asesino Sicotico" the hit number here. Woof!

Review: With releases on labels like Roam and Shara Music, Mijo's star was already in the ascent, and this EP for Duro will only serve to consolidate his reputation. Based on a rugged rhythm and a low-slung bass, the title track resounds to niggling percussive ticks and dubbed out claps. It sounds like a refined, futuristic take on electro house. The label has commissioned a series of remixes that vary in sound and style: Paulor's take is laden down with dramatic strings and guitar power chords, while on the Dyor interpretation, a radically different approach prevails with lo-fi guitar riffs and hypnotic pulses providing a more refined flavour. Finally, there's The Chica's take, a cut-up version peppered with New York house horns.

Review: Duro's fourth-anniversary compilation series continues with another all-action collection of cuts from their roster of mostly Mexican artists. Fausto sets the tone with "Rumble", a deliciously raw, low-slung affair in which echoing post-punk guitar riffs ride unfussy drums and a booming analogue bassline, before Darlyn Vys layers psychedelic guitars and wild vocals atop a throbbing, arpeggio style groove. Jepe's "Rosmarin" breathlessly joins the dots between robo-disco and acid house, Mordisco's "Sacromonte" is a chugging slab of synth-heavy horror disco and Carisma's "Oto Planeta" is a dark Italo-disco throb-job laden with redlined electronics and foreboding chords. It's an excellent EP for those who like their disco grooves dark, druggy and unflinchingly heavy.

Review: Those Duro boys are it again, look out! Label chiefs Inigo Vontier & Theus Mago team up for some typically devilish disco on their latest offering "Derrumbes & Escaleras", where the Mexican duo take you deep into the cosmic hole for a lesson in proper trance induction. There are three remixes also included: Chez De Milo carries over the hypnotic polyrhythms of the original and keeps it slo-mo, while Zillas On Acid's take is a muscular EBM styled rendition for the peak time, plus Saiko going for an acid infused and bass-driven minimal style thumper.

Review: Mexican label Duro get behind the EBM and acid-new-wave techno sounds of Switchdance & Rina. Delving into synthy territory alongside industrial drums and sci-fi space sequences, Baba Music Vol I is a darkly shaded EP that in a similar tip to say ARAB ACID pushes a unique exotic sound when applied to harder, goth-tipped dance music. Both originals embrace boiling acid, hard basslines, coarse vocals and ghostly atmospheres without getting too dark down the rabbit hole. Jonathan Kusuma chips in with a semi-beatless ambient dub mix of "Give Way" next to a raw and electrified post-punk remix of "Give Way". An EP which oozes the feeling of a live gothic club. Sick!

Review: Mexican imprint Duro may have walked steadfast down the left hand path of late, with their knack for moody industrial influenced music, but the first installment in their new 'Muy' compilation series sees them celebrate their 4th birthday in fine fashion - with the label and its cohorts returning to their nu-disco roots in delightful fashion. Kubebe delves deep into lo-slung territory on the mesmerizing groove of "Lagomar", Lithuanian Roe Deers offers up some cut-up classic house shenanigans on "Florida", Wolfstram does deep into the exotic (Disco Halal style) on "Ritual Of Nothing" and Hanzo & Yaman deliver the neon-lit body music of "Supergeil".

Review: Last appearing on the label's inaugural compilation, Wolfstream return to Theus Mago's Duro imprint with their first full EP for the label. The 'Khoomei' EP takes you deep into the exotic corners of indie dance: from the low slung and hypnotic chant of the title track, to the neon-lit new dance fantasy of "From Z To Ulu" which receives a freaked-out peak time rework by Hanzo & Yaman (Belly Dance Services), plus the oddball funk of "Avacha Bay Hunters" going for that Disco Halal vibe - and doing it pretty well! Following up some equally impressive releases on Playground Records and Rotten City files, this Russian duo is on fire at the moment.

This one features the lo-slung, bass-driven acid bounce of "Trans" by Dominik Marz, Radial Gaze and Bruce The Bat Person, Heidenreich serves up the strobe-lit, slow burning euphoria of "Neuruppin Trance", Macaulay & Undefined Pattern take you into dark and murky territory on the warm-up cut "Ceniza & Miel" and finally Nick Hanzo & A-Tweed hand in a typically off-kilter cut in the form of "Andcister".

Review: Two originals and two remixes make up this EP from Mexico City's Moises Ramirez on his own Duro label. 'The Death Of Hope' itself in its Original form is a bass-y tech-house throbber with something of a melodic/epic slant, particularly to the ominous extended breakdown midway through, while 'Midnight Raider' has a lighter touch, combining a pulsating b-line, 'Knight Rider'-esque synths and snatches of Mission Control dialogue to killer dancefloor effect. As for the remixes, Middle Sky Boom give 'Midnight Raider' a more laidback, groovy feel, female vocal snips and nods to electro, while Younger Than Me go for the techno jugular on their refix of the title track.

Review: Mexico"s Duro label returns with its latest effort by label chief Theus Mago, joined by fellow countryman Mijo on the Pebbles Mind Horrors EP, which follows up some great releases by Arthur Johnson and Colossio. Get tranced out under the strobe light to the druggy low slung groove of the title track, while "Ustedes Los Ricos" takes its cues from Chicago"s acid house days on this sleazy, heads-down jacker. This is backed up by a swirling and hypnotic rendition by Poland's Mytron up next, then ending with one more cerebral outing in the form of "Nosotros Los Pobres" that's awash in a tapestry of intoxicating melodies backed up by some infectious polyrhythms - a trademark that Mago has fast made a name for himself with.

Review: All we know about the publicity-shy Arthur Johnson is that he's from Belgium. But then that's quite key information when it comes to this four-track EP for Mexican label Duro, because the influence of his homeland's New Beat legacy can be heard quite clearly in its slo-mo chugging beats, distorted vocals and overall sleazy feel. That's not the whole story, though: there are also hints of Italo, indie and acid in there, and 'Always Up' adds a touch of Eastern flava, while Theus Mago collab 'In Control' has distinct echoes of the 'Knight Rider' theme - just not the over-used sample!

Review: We are always super stoked when fresh wares from the Duro camp arrive in! This time the Mexican powerhouse serves up an extra spicy delight from fellow countryman Max Jones - he of Correspondant, My Favorite Robot and Electrique Music fame. The man comes back from a four year hiatus and makes his debut for the label in fine fashion. First up, be captivated by the metallic hiss and rattle of the brooding "Perisur" taking you deep down the left hand path with an aesthetic that will mix in well with anything by Bird Of Paradise or Sebastian Voigt. Berlin's Jepe then gets on board for a superb remix of the track which is truly hypnotic and utterly sublime. If that was not enough, Frenchman Cornelius Doctor (Hard Fist) lands an absolutely deserving slo-mo Italo rework - which we reckon was spot on!

Review: Mexico's Tyo returns to his semi-regular home of Duro clutching this two-track, four-mix EP. 'Bailando' comes on like a mid-80s Spanish-language electro workout given a lick of 21st Century production polish, while Bawrut's remix does a good job of nudging it closer to house and disco floors. The other original, 'Pieles', has one of the most distinctive intros you'll hear all week - think Benedictine monks raiding the cowbell cupboard - before unleashing more 80s flavas, this time in a more coldwave-y vein and topped with a spoken female vocal in Spanish, while Niv Ast's remix drops the tempo a notch and adds rock guitars.

Review: We are always excited when new stuff comes in from the Duro camp. The Mexican label welcomes homeboy (now New York City-based) Menio Brown aka Rigopolar with an EP packed full of his moody and expansive disco tunes. This follows up releases/remixes on Tom Tom Disco, Beat is Murder, Nein and Roam Recordings. The We Are One EP features lo-slung, cosmo/psychedelic journeys such as "Black Mantis" or "Crashes", but he gets back to old old tricks on the late night, dark side boogie-down antics of "Espiral" or the neo-noir EBM pulsations offered up on "Time".

Review: Mexican label Duro is run out of Mexico for the last 10 years, founded by Theus Mago, Moisees Ramirez Olvera and Mateo Gonzaalez - aka Bufi. He returns with the third single from his Mexico 70 album which is due to be released soon after releases on labels like Discotexas and Electrique Music. He delivers the woozy punk-funk of "Brujerias" and the psychedelic (almost acid techno) vibe of "Africa Latina" venturing into the same territory as indie dance heroes like Red Axes and Moscoman have also done of late. Remixes come from Richard Rossa - who brings the goods on the moody noir antics of his remix of "Africa Latina" as does Maya Danon on her druggy minimal tech house rework.

Review: As if inspired by Rad Racer, Cruisin' USA and Outrun - Sobek's Monza EP takes Formula 1 racing to the club. Full of pumping arpeggios, synths that sound like tires squealing around the hairpin or engines shifting through the RPMs, the best place to start is "Monza" - a deep Schumacher session into the intergalactic streets of Monte Carlo 2.0. Bursting through the badlands of industrial decay is "Oscuro" next to dune buggy grooves and slamming snares of "Tres". And putt-putting back into the new age is a piston-pumping, percussive slammer "Cuarantena Furiosa". Schumacher!

Review: Moderna and Mexico's Theus Mago are not on their first outcome. They collaborated few years ago with "Tecno Misogino" on french label La Dame Noir. This time, it is on Theus Mago's own imprint Duro, and both brings their eclectic sound that blending techno, acid, electro and dark disco. Setting the tone with a powerful opening, 'La Tranca' is a dynamic and pulsating track characterized by expressive vocals and psychedelic synthesizers. The next track, Preset Body, is a chaotic track with an acidic bassline and a booming drum that immerses the listener in a whirlwind of rotating and twisted synthesizers. Following is "Give Chance A Trance", a rave cut with incisive drum and reverberating synthesizers while the EP closes with the quirky and intoxicating track The Motion Of Emotions, luring the listener on a journey into the night.

Review: Theus Mago aka Mateo Gonz?lez is having a moment. Hot on the heels of his release for Ombra International, he returns to his own label to deliver Inertials. Like previous releases, this latest EP is inspired by the work of sci-fi writer Philip K Dick, and the title track is certainly unusual. Combining tight break beats with splurging acid, sprawling riffs and understated vocals, it's not a typical techno or house track. Things get weirder on the remix by fellow Mexican producer I?igo Vontier, where the vocals are pitched up and down and crash their way over the raw drums. There's also a wonderfully stripped back take by Jamie Paton from Cage & Aviary that puts a focus on a subsonic bass.

Review: Mexican merchants of dark disco, Duro, return this week with label co-chief Mateo Gonzalez aka Theus Mago, teaming up with Tyu (Tony Ullmann) on new offering "Piel De Oso" featuring Spanish rapper Livia. The entrancing, slo-mo exotica of the title track is complimented by some great remixes by Rina X Benji up first, who pick up the pace with some added snare rolls reminiscent of a certain Plastikman anthem, while Moisees & Zea's perspective takes the track into the peak time with pumping bass and a tighter rhythm section.
