Review: It's official, Eatbrain have now officially eaten all of the brains and have moved onto eating the entire world. Pure domination and 'Divergence' is the sound track. Now on their fifth volume (which is so big it's split into two parts), this edition features a dizzying range of artists from Aggressor Bunx to Sola to Current Value to Gydra and an insane amount more across 19 tracks. Highlights include the ravey twist of MNDSCP's 'Grumbler', the sensual vocal element and raw strings of 'Tusk' by Volatile Cycle and Dropset and the pure swagger of State Of Mind's 'Fall Forward'. But that's just three of a humungous set. Dig deep and diverge!

Review: Following releases on the likes of Neuropunk, Paperfunk, Ignescent and many other labels, Russian duo TNTKLZ make their debut on one of the biggest labels in neuro, Eatbrain. And they do so with this humungous collection of slammers and hammers. Featuring link-ups with kindred spirits such as Gancher & Ruin and Profuze, it's a late night stamp-out session as we're put through our paces with pure dynamism and drama. Highlights include the barn-storming extremities and exhilaration of the EP title track 'Terminal Stage' and the grizzly gutter chomping funk of 'Obstruct' but the entire EP slams hard!

Chatter - (4:10) 175 BPM
Review: Following releases on the likes of Hanzom and Diascope, Austrian talent Manta makes his debut on Eatbrain with a quartet of contemporary neuro tear-ups. 'Don't Wake Me Up' sets an emotional scene with breath-taking drama while 'Alienated' goes all in with a brutalist cyber sci-fi score vibe. Elsewhere Screamarts joins the party with the twisted, sizzling rattler 'Guardian' while 'Chatter' closes the EP on a big chug stomp flex.

Review: When it comes to drum & bass, albums don't get much bigger than 'Somewhere We Belong'. Huge in every sense of the word, Burr Oak have gone in on every possible detail... Conceptually it carries a compelling narrative, dynamically it's outrageously well produced and emotionally it hits hard in the feels. The Clamps and Opsin's most ambitious and well executed body of work to date, and by far the most significant release on Eatbrain since Gydra's album, this is one of those albums that you'll keep coming back to again and again and again as a listener and as a DJ. This belongs in your collection.

Freedom EP
Cybertron - (4:12) 174 BPM Hot
System Crash - (4:15) 174 BPM
Inner Line - (4:34) 172 BPM
Freedom - (3:25) 174 BPM
Review: Aggressor Bunx hit hard in all directions with the poignant titled 'Freedom'. Currently operating in very bleak conditions, the Ukraine act are firing heavy shots on Eatbrain. 'Cybertron' sets fire to the senses instantly with its industrial strength tech aesthetic. It's backed up by more dark matter movements as 'System Crash' goes for an old mid 2000s style overdrive groove and 'Inner Line' pummels us into submission with an array of double kicks and gnarly Reese basses. Finally 'Freedom' closes on an emotional vocal tip. Very different for Aggressor Bunx but these are very different times. Massive EP.

Review: Oh our collective goshes! Eatbrain come correct with this humungous collection from an exciting range of artists old and new on this massive 'Divergence' VA. Highlights come in every shape and size as we burn and turn through the 26 track collection; AKOV goes in with some brooding severance on 'The Other Side', Redpill takes energy levels higher than ever before on the epic 'The Edge' while Metal Work makes his debut on Eatbrain with the swaggering grizzle fest 'I Told You'. Elsewhere we have Screamarts delivering serious goods on the creeped out 'Deviant', Zombie Cats bring some ruthless funk on 'Aus' and Mythic Image goes full-on intensity with 'Dymaxion'. A powerful collection right here!

Don't Let Me Go - (2:59) 174 BPM Hot
Ghost - (5:01) 174 BPM
The Paradox - (5:00) 175 BPM
Review: Paradoxical vibes abound as the currently unstoppable Screamarts continues his exciting vein of form with his first solo EP for Eatbrain. Taking off where he left us with AKOV on the label last year, it's another full-flavoured escapade as we romp from the sinewy staccato savagery of opener 'Are You Mad Yes' to the all-out full electrical textures and tears of the title track finale 'The Paradox'. In amongst these pillars we're jolted to the bones by the dark soul shreds of 'Don't Let Me Go' and rumbled into dense pressure rollage with the grumbling bass and stripped back dynamics of 'Ghost'. Scream if you wanna go faster.

The World's Spark - (4:36) 172 BPM
Review: Burr Oak is one of the several artists in the Eatbrain orbit who make weird and wonderful sounds, appearing in multiple, ever-shifting forms. This time around its hard neuro and, in true Eatbrain form, these six tunes are abstract but not overly so, with a grounding in that D&B format we know so well. It's all about the sound design and the complexity here, and we especially love the pitched-up synth work on 'Dissent' and 'Barbarian'. It's 'No Light Will Shine On', however, which has really grabbed us and it's partly thanks to the insane drum work (that snare!) that ensconces a broader approach at nastiness, encapsulated by bass flourishes and sub wobbles. Top work.

Variation In Production (VIP)
Various

Redpill - "Lunch Time" - (4:06) 172 BPM
Smooth - "Roly-Poly" - (3:51) 172 BPM Hot
Zombie Cats & ABIS - "Need" - (4:07) 172 BPM
Review: It's the age-old argument that's kept croaky old junglists up past their bedtime for years: does VIP stand for 'this mix is strictly for very important people' or does it stand for 'variation in production'? In truth, it can mean either, depending on who made the VIP and who they intended it for. But now at least we know Eatbrain's stance on the matter as they ask some of their biggest VIP producers to go back over a seminal label release of theirs and give it a good overhaul, update and go-faster stripes for 2020. The results speak for themselves; the added grit and funk on L 33's 'Mafia', Jade's emotional dynamics on 'TV Says' and the complete subversion of 'Need' by Zombie Cats and Abis are just three examples of how very important these variations are. And they're made for you: the true VIPs.

Review: The Hungarian Neurofunk outpost that is Eatbrain are back with their latest satanic offering and no, it's not a goat or a small, innocent child. Instead, it's a six-track EP from regular Burr Oak and his sound is even bigger than we remember. 'Twinkle Toes' is that track and it's four minutes of snarling basses and twisting sub-lines which burst out the stocks with ferocious speed, underpinned by the frenetic sounds of neurofunk drum work. 'Rubber' is another highlight, it's pitched-up synths fill the top of the range in a lovely contrast with its subsequent diving, mutated low end. Another top release from the Eatbrain crew.

Review: Eatbrain are stepping into darker territory over on the Hungarian Eatbrain imprint with their Negative Thoughts EP, a release that brings in elements of the Neurofunk sound within the context of nightmares, that feeling of sleep without your eyes closed, the creeping sense that you need to drift off but the foreboding feeling that unconsciousness is out of your reach. 'Shinkjuko' is a highlight, with a deeply rolling and fluctuating bassline that injects both funkiness and heaviness in equal measure, an impact topped off with some wicked synth work. Shout out to the teddy bear crew!

Review: Eatbrain are a Hungarian neurofunk institution of instantly recognisable proportions, a household name in the world of big basslines and one of the main labels holding up the banner for the growing central and eastern European obsession with the subgenre. Even for Eatbrain, this release is exceptionally strong and the diversity within shows the broad church that neurofunk has become. 'Sweetface is the more archetypal of the bunch, a pummelling roller that moves and sways with engineered precision. 'Ability' holds up the sky with Coppa on vocals over an incredibly unique percussive structure that works undeniably well. What a wicked release.

Review: Eatbrain return with more flesh-gobbling bruisers in the form of this massive V/A album Divergence II. Following where the inaugural collection left us back in March 2018, once again it's an epic rollcall of Eatbrain artists and friends with no boundaries in terms of subgenre or expectation. Highlights include the slippery kicks and technoid funk of Zombie Cats "Lost", the ravey-style pitched up vocals and A.M.C style energy of the drop on Catastrophe's "Pretender" the insane VIP level-p of Tobax's "Burning" and Burr Oak's schizoid riot "Orbit".... But these are just the tip of the brain-eating iceberg. Jade's label remains bang on-point as ever.

Review: Nais has been doing the rounds in the Neurofunk world for a little while now and he's making his first full-length appearance on Eatbrain alongside Nuklear and Teddy Killerz. This release is predictably huge, with plenty of jump-up influences creeping in to its stylistic make-up and the combination of various strands of dancefloor heinousness is pretty banging. 'Selecta' is a tumbling, jagged roller than rests on a heavyweight drum line, it moves with a constant feeling of effortlessness and there's an addictive feeling of fluidity to the arrangement that seeps through into your unconscious. Great work.

Urgency - (4:25) 172 BPM
Review: Joe Ford marches into battle with his first full arsenal since last year's debut album Colours In Sound. Now looking more at home that he has in years on Eatbrain, it's a return to the heavier, gnarlier, rougher sound we first fell in love with him for all those years ago. "War March" commences the skirmish with twisted paranoid harmonics, "Lumbering Beast" brings in the firepower as a heads down roll turns into something much more destructive on the second drop while "The End" shells every corner of the earth with gritty bass cannonballs. Finally "Urgency" slams down the finale hammer with an almost psy-like sense of next-lev neuro. Abstraction complete; this is some of Joe Ford's finest stuff in years.

Review: Teddy Killerz are the cute, furry-faced bastions of horror and they've teamed up with the Eatbrain crew for this full-throttle display of dastardly sound design, monstrous bass construction and downright disgusting choonage. 'Vibe' is our favourite of the two, with a drum line that's constantly shifting and morphing across different patterns and punchy synth stabs, it's sharp on all edges and fiercely no-nonsense. The rest of the tines pack even more energy and it's what we've come to expect from all parties involved in this sick little single.

Review: Eatbrain are the Hungarian purveyors of big beats and badass basses, the moody crew in the corner who are intimidating with all their talk of death and destruction. That's exactly what's present on this EP which features four remixes of State of Mind from SoM themselves, IHR, Synergy and Mob Tactics. IHR's remix of Highlander is the standout tune, with a hype-inducing build that explodes into a blustering array of tangled bass and tendrils of percussive force with hints of acid in the synths and a sharp edge to the overall sound. Amazing tune.

Review: Eatbrain is the Hungarian Neurofunk institution that keeps on giving, with regular releases that dive deep into the presumably hellish landscapes that characterise the minds of their artists. Blackish intent is the name of the game and blackish music is the result, with Tobax in this one combining the technical prowess of the Hungarian crew with the rough-and-tumble readiness of British jump-up. The title track is a good example, with a flurry of energy seeping from every corner of what is a banging dancefloor destroyer. Big tunes here from Tobax.

Now, though, he's stepping into darker territory over on the Hungarian Eatbrain imprint with his Inside EP, a release that brings in elements of the Neurofunk sound but doesn't stray too far away Smooth's previous haunts. 'Monster Inside' is a highlight, with a deeply rolling and fluctuating bassline that injects both funkiness and heaviness in equal measure, an impact topped off with some wicked synth work. Review: Akov was nominated last year for best newcomer in the D&BA awards and for good reason. Having learnt to produce music on the most basic of set-ups, it's all the more impressive that he's one of the most accomplished producers in the realm of sound design and techy construction. U Want It combines his normal Neurofunk sound with something a bit more synthy and spacious, a blending of styles that displays Akov's ability to diversify. The title track is classic Eatbrain, with Multiplex over the top spitting away and Akov below throwing down the gauntlet of pummelling dancefloor music. But it's the Sun and Moon mixes of 'Blind' that have got us excited, especially the latter, with its Camo & Krooked esque approach to the arrangement and infectious sense of movement. Big, big release.

They're back on regular home Eatbrain for this next four-tracker, all of which absolutely slap in every kind of way. Review: Eatbrain is the Hungarian Neurofunk institution that just keeps on giving, the Central European bass place which prioritises naughty music over everything else. Well, their 2018 album is here from a selection of the artists in their orbit and its everything you'd expect from Jade and the crew. The first cut - 'Mafia' by L 33 - has been out for a little while but has rightfully been re-visited here, its Jump-Up-Neurofunk fusion landing exceptionally well with serious dancefloor implications. There are too many sick tracks on this release to cover them all here, but KOLT's 'Harpy' and 'Pararampam' from Agressor Bunx are two more absolutely ridiculous bits of production. Well worth a look.

Ninja Scroll EP
Ninja Scroll (feat Jimmy Danger) - (3:26) 174 BPM Hot
Shapeshifter - (4:13) 175 BPM
Clashtone & Pastry Maker - "Faded" - (3:43) 58 BPM
Review: Eatbrain are a Hungarian neurofunk institution of instantly recognisable proportions, a household name in the world of big basslines and one of the main labels holding up the banner for the growing central and eastern European obsession with the subgenre. Even for Eatbrain, this release is exceptionally strong and the diversity within shows the broad church that neurofunk has become. 'Ninja Scroll' is the more archetypal of the bunch, a pummelling roller that moves and sways with engineered precision. 'Shapeshifter' is a knock-down of a halftime number, with harsh snapping drums and a Noisia-esque bassline. 'Faded' holds up the rear with Pastry Maker on vocals over an incredibly unique percussive structure that works undeniably well.

Gancher, Ruin & Jade - "Reflection" - (4:23) 175 BPM Hot
Velocity - (5:18) 175 BPM
Unlimited - (4:39) 175 BPM
Review: The Hungarian Neurofunk outpost that is Eatbrain are back with their latest satanic offering and no, it's not a goat or a small, innocent child. Instead, it's a three-track EP from regular Eatbrain staples Gancher & Ruin and their sound is even bigger than we remember, the release also including a feature from label founder Jade. 'Reflection' is that track and it's four minutes of snarling basses and twisting sub-lines which burst out the stocks with ferocious speed, underpinned by the frenetic sounds of neurofunk drum work. 'Unlimited' is another highlight, it's pitched-up synths fill the top of the range in a lovely contrast with its subsequent diving, mutated low end. Another top release from the Eatbrain crew.

Rido & Counterstrike - "Da F_k" - (4:22) 172 BPM
Review: Eatbrain have steadily become one of the biggest powerhouses in neurofunk, their Budapest home making them perfectly placed to serve both sides of Europe's increasingly insatiable appetite for D&B that tries to put you in the hospital. This time, Rido has brought Joe Ford, Counterstrike and Jade on board for a collaborative endeavour which combines Rido's stylistic agro with several of D&B's most renowned bass merchants. 'Blueprint' featuring Joe Ford is an especially potent cut, high-octane energy drips from every sinew and its ability to get you gassed is classically Joe Ford. One for the heads.

Review: Everyone's favourite stuffed animals are back on Eatbrain with an unsurprisingly fiery EP. Teddy Killerz just pack a certain type of craziness into their music that lends itself superbly to Budapest-based Eatbrain, their tendency for super-charged basslines and raucous percussive force fitting in well with the Central European neurofunk powerhouse. Chopping Machines fits a diverse range of dancefloor sounds into five tracks; 'Chop It' features an astoundingly solid back end; 'Chopping Machines' carries a dystopic prescence with its gargling synths; and 'Afrika' delves into deeper territory with a roving sense of travel. Another top EP from the boys.

Review: L 33 returns with a big end of summer blow out. Five slabs of chest pressing neuro filth from the Bulgarian badman, the EP gets wilder and wilder from track to track; the white knuckle blazes and high voltage funk of "Be Mine", the thunder techno stamps and hyper rave pace of "Get Down" and the absolute mania and full body assault of "Neurotrash" with crossbreed don Limewax are just some of the incendiary, insanity boosting cuts on offer here. L 33 has never sounded so confrontational and uncompromising!

Review: Smooth & Markoman's Telekinesis project sheds a new skin and slithers into the neuro forest for its annual feast. As always it's a rampant, high energy affair where the pace refuses to let up. "Look Out" punches with serious aggression as Nuklear spits with authentic rage, "Warp" is a rampant fast lane jam which places you in pole position in a win or die space race, "Intruder" is the triumphant journey home dodging meteors and asteroids on every turbulent corner while Eatbrain bossman Jade packs his lasers and joins the fray for "Numbers", a rasping, gritty stampede track it brings us full circle to the aggro of the opener. Devilishly good.

Review: Bare Russian slammage: Cod3x returns to Eatbrain for the first time in two years with five feisty law-breaking technoid bust-ups. "Confused" will melt your brain with its twisted rising percussive elements and vocal sample, "Illegal Sound" sticks it to the man with psychedelic paranoia while "Technology" is turbo charged with a gritty distortion you'd usually expect from an artist of Dieselboy's ilk. Dig deeper for the guttural staccato bass savagery of "Nothing" before "Slick" brings the house down on the wonkiest halftime pumps you've heard in this life and the next.

Not Safe - (4:20) 174 BPM
Man Eating Lizard Dragon - (2:10) 150 BPM
Review: The machine has awoken! Eatbrain bossguy Jade returns with four more woke wallopers. The title track says it all; stripped back and slippery, it's a meaner, more minimal rampage from the untouchable neuro king that's followed by an absolute riot of a jam in the form of "Highlander". Co-created with fellow bass terroriser State Of Mind, it's a savage shock to the sense with its layers of menacing psy-textures. Elsewhere the experience is complemented by the warped synth and dense pressure of "Not Safe" before we're eaten alive by "Man Eating Lizard Dragon". Spitting fire at a devilish 150 BPM, this is a whole new side to the machine we've not witnessed before.

Review: Newsflash! Eatbrain bossman Jade isn't actually a human. But then we kinda suspected this already. The level of his obscene production, the dark aesthetic of his label, the absolute skin-scorching fire of the bassline right here. Yeah, we knew Jade was some type of mechanical automaton but we just didn't want to admit it to ourselves. Absolutely machine soul grit from a truly unique man/machine; let's see what this one-tracker leads to...

Review: Bulgarian badman L 33 has become one of neuro's leading lights in recent years, having established his brute force and technical muscle on Addictive Behaviour and Program two years ago. Now chowing down on the finest brains in bass, he's ready to flex his musical martial arts on an XL LP level with Karate. Wax on: the loopy MC menace and sandpaper groove of "Grime All The Time". Wax off: the staccato stabs and militant woodblock KO of "Creatures". Wax on: the toxic drop on "Drop It Down Low". Wax off: the intense laser-mania of "Disco Funk". We could wax on and on and on all day... File under deadly chops (black belt level).

Review: Zombie Cats "crawled from the vortex" according to the blurb from the laughably aptly-named Eatbrain Records label sometime earlier this year and have been ravenously snacking on the living minds of neurofunk dark lords Mefjus and Logam ever since. With this massive EP one thing is for certain - if this is the shape of the apocalypse, no-one's making it out alive. Darker than dead ends in the night and gorier than the torn remains of the less fortunate, this release isn't f***ing about. It's a nightmare. From rampant rollers to minimal, horror-stricken atmospheric breakdowns, it's gothic horror for the dancefloor generation. Are you ready to run?
