Review: For his third release on esteemed label Echocord, it sounds like Roberto Clementi is taking a leaf from the Fachwerk book of techno production. This approach is most audible on "Fifty HF", where the Italian producer drops shaking, niggling percussion and woozy organ solos over a tight, stepping rhythm. Close your eyes and it could be Mike Dehnert or Roman Lindau. The title track doesn't wear its influences so clearly, and reverts to Echocord's in-house sound. A repetitive chord stab and some woozy synths play away in the background as Clementi drops tight percussion and an insistent, shaking rhythm that oozes funk.
Review: With an impressive track record behind him and a keen grasp of both texture and atmosphere, Italian producer Roberto Clementi is a good fit for Echocord Colour. This second part of his label debut rams the point home. "Barrell" is deep, woozy and undulating, with ricocheting electronics riding a formidably hypnotic, locked-in techno rhythm. "Traps" goes deeper still, with eyes-wide-shut chords and subdued, sci-fi electronics complimenting a shuffling dub techno groove. Berghain resident Norman Nodge has a stab at remixing "Bonton" (the original of which is available on the first part of the release), delivering a version that sits somewhere between hypnotic, lo-fi techno and vintage Chicago jack.
