Lele Reworks
Lele (Statues rework) - (6:17) 98 BPM
Lele (Vanity Project rework) - (5:59) 98 BPM Hot
Lele (Sibson's dub) - (6:03) 82 BPM
Review: When given the chance to remix "Lele" from their 2020 EP Visions, Statues knew exactly what to do; they wanted to take you deeper into the sunset with a sublime serving of balearica that underpins Laura Maidment's beautiful vocal. Vanity Project get in on the act too with their poolside rendition, a deeply emotive piece of mood music featuring a rich tapestry of vintage synth melodies on an '80s tip - and not forgoing that sexy sax solo either. Mikey Sibson (Balearic Ensemble) is the last one up, making his Eclectics debut with a truly phenomenal slice of deep club dub.

Falling Up (original mix) - (6:41) 98 BPM
Falling Up (Leo Zero Acid dub) - (9:28) 98 BPM
Falling Down (original mix) - (5:54) 98 BPM
Falling Down (James Bright remix) - (5:27) 102 BPM Hot
Review: After spending the last few years releasing "live electronic music" on Claptrap, Vanity Project comes to eclectics for the very first time. In keeping with the producer's previous work, Levels is sonically attractive and expertly produced, but pleasingly hard to pigeonhole. There are two original tracks to savour: 'Falling Up', a deliciously chugging slab of mid-tempo nu-disco/instrumental synth-pop rich in squelchy bass, intergalactic chords and bubbly electronic melodies, and 'Falling Down' which adds a touch of Balearic sunshine and kaleidoscopic colour to an Italo-disco influenced groove. The two accompanying remixes are rather good, too. Check first Leo Zero's TB-303-rich 'Acid Dub' of 'Falling Up', where psychedelic TB-303 lines bubble away atop a hypnotic groove, before admiring James Bright's luscious nu-disco meets deep house revision of 'Falling Down'.

The Outside
The Outside (original mix) - (5:50) 57 BPM
The Outside (Woolfy remix) - (5:26) 57 BPM Hot
Suburbia (original mix) - (7:19) 112 BPM
Suburbia (Hardway Bros 'ALFOS Has Risen' remix) - (9:13) 112 BPM
Review: Nearly 18 months on from his debut EP for eclectics, Macclesfield's James Bright returns to the label with two new compositions. 'The Outside' is a chunky cosmic disco jam with a rhythmically pulsing bassline and a simple, plodding 80s drum beat underpinning Ofra Haza-like vocal wails and sci-fi synths, while 'Suburbia' is similar in overall MO but a little more fluid in its movements. On the remix front, Woolfy transforms 'The Outside' into a slice of blissed-out Balearica, while Hardway Bros perform a similar trick with 'Suburbia' on the ALFOS Has Risen Remix, which adopts a slightly kitchen sink-ish approach.

Rotunda (Gold Suite remix) - (7:32) 103 BPM Hot
Lessons (original mix) - (5:18) 94 BPM
Lessons (Coyote remix) - (6:21) 94 BPM
Review: Statues are the Essex-based trio of Bradley Lucke, Mark Crookes and Grant Carruthers, and their new EP packs two tracks in four mixes. 'Rotunda' is a slo-mo jam that sits somewhere between spangly, Nang-esque nu-disco and shimmering Balearica, whether you opt for the sparse, bass-throbbin' Original or warmer, more sumptuous Gold Suite Remix. It's the accompanying 'Lessons' with its mantra-like vocal that stands out, though: the original comes on like an unlikely but effective cross between the goth-psych whimsy of Love & Rockets and the laidback stoner pop of Freakpower, while Coyote's remix enhances the groove without detracting from its druggy, lazy charms one iota.

There Is No Planet B (Jazxing remix) - (5:50) 106 BPM
Oh! (original mix) - (8:21) 116 BPM
Oh! (James Bright remix) - (6:11) 114 BPM
Review: The Eclectics label introduces Oh! 35 minutes of disco-fied heat supplied by the likes of Ibiza-based Italian producer Luca Averna and legendary British veteran Chris Coco. Their original mix of the title track brings a soft and subtle yet deeply penetrating Baeleric acid vibe next to the spacey and laid back groove number "There Is No Planet B". With remix support coming from The Very Polish Cut-Outs / Transatlantyk artist Jazxing in his phased-out night life version, The Veteran Delinquents (Joe's Bakery and Passport to Paradise stalwart Craig Christon along with producer Tim Hutton) give it their own star sailing mix. Handed the keys to the original too is Eclectics regular James Bright with perhaps the best version of them all!

Back Roads (Statues remix) - (6:00) 76 BPM Hot
The Level (Statues remix) - (4:56) 127 BPM
Review: Having already delivered a handful of excellent EPs for the label, Eclectics has wisely decided it's time for nu-Balearic explorer James Bright to have his work remixed. Vanity Project steps up first, adding mazy Moog style synth sounds and sunrise-ready electronics to a slow-motion dancefloor groove on an inspired rework of 'Black Roads', before pushing up the tempo on a sublime digi-dub-goes-Balearic tweak of 'The Level'. Label regulars (and occasional Claremont 56 artists) Statues tackle the same two tracks. Their revision of 'Black Roads' is super-slow and insanely immersive, sounding not unlike Seahawks after a few too many tokes on David Gilmour's bong, while their take on 'The Level' is a folksy, wide-eyed Balearic delight.

Toso-Chu (original mix) - (4:57) 111 BPM
Toso-Chu (Timothy J. Fairplay remix) - (7:29) 111 BPM
Review: Disco from the leftfield and more heavily electronic end of the spectrum is the order of the day on this four-track EP from eclectics. The UK's Martin Lefteri is the man at the controls, and serves up two original tracks: 'Peradam' is a lolloping, throbbing affair that blends Italo, prog, Balearic and Middle Eastern influences into one evolving, hypnotic whole, while 'Toso-Chu' is a more straight-up Italo-style cut. Spanish nu-disco stalwart Ilya Santana then gives the former a very Moroder-esque makeover, while Timothy J Fairplay AKA Antoine Rouge takes 'Toso-Chu' into weirded-out 5am prog territory.

Review: Following up some great releases by Dan Fabrice and Cole Ordin recently, the Bournemouth-based Balearic label eclectics present this new EP from Canebrake Sam Bruce (AKA Mallorquin) which as the label best described themselves will 'leave you rocking and reeling between the dark and the dawn'. From the low-slung boogie down psychedelia of "Borne River" which receives an acid washed and completely euphoric makeover by James Bright, to the energetic and neon-lit nu-disco journey of "Contento de Saber" that receives a classic Chicago house rework by Joe Morris (Lux) - there's all you need right here!

Review: As Cole Odin emerges as a producer we've got to know from the San Francisco area who once appeared on Golf Channel compilation in 2015, he now brings some extra attention to the eclectics label with this new EP. Using looping, motorik momentum and endlessly inventive guitar motifs to create a sonic landscape that's satisfyingly familiar yet littered with signposts to new and exotic destinations, one can't help but hear flashes of The XX through to Stereolab's "Simple Headphone Mind". Take in Bristol remixer DJ Jack Priest for something spiralling and Italo alongside Adam Warped's folkier remix, and you have that perfect blend of the organi and traditional with the surreal. Happy days.

Review: It's not so often we see from the enigmatic James Bright, a new agey, new-waving, disco producer outta the UK whose music in an intermittent way has, over the years, made it to obscure Russian labels further afield to others like Nang and the now defunct Tundra label via his Lux project with Seve Miller. Now with The Bournemouth-based Eclectics label (think 20/20 Vision) whom he contributed the track "Love" in a compilation they released last year, Bright delivers a fully accomplished piece World So High EP. The record brings together Avalon-era Roxy Music nous to the outer reaches of Balearic genre experimentation, shiny pop and exotica, with some new age that has us thinking Deep Forest. Our picks: "Sula" and "Transmission Station".

Review: Is the sheer pace and stress of 21st Century living getting you down? Time to unwind with this collection of downtempo and Balearic bizniss from eclectics, a label that's been turning out the White Isle-friendly grooves from the somewhat more intermittently sun-drenched location of Bournemouth, UK since 2017. Stylistically, tracks range from the bass-y, slo-mo disco of James Bright's 'Caribou', to the sultry tropical vibes of Sam Back2MyHouse's '120 Degrees In The Shade' and the plinky-plonk synth-pop of Guy Mayan's 'Dreaming'; what ties it all together is the overall lazy, sunset-friendly feel. Pass the sun screen... oh, and mine's a mojito if you're offering!

Review: The ninth release from British label eclectics sees them continue their worldwide search for the finest tunes they can find. Enigmatic Turkish producer KaaN offers up original track "Adab I Raki" delving deep into the exotic underground of Istanbul. Project Spectre (Clandestino's Iain Mcbeath) delivers a truly hypnotic and melodic rework for the late night, Birmingham duo Field of Dreams go for some deep and trippy acid on their rendition, and Blackpool's Ed Mahon also successfully makes the track his own with his magickal and atmospheric rework.

Review: In the 18 months that have passed since the Eclectics label launched, the imprint has delivered a string of must-have EPs from lesser known producers and rising stars. Their latest signee, James Bright, fits that profile. A maker of downtempo grooves and Balearic beats since the dawn of the decade, Bright's releases have thus far been surprisingly limited. This is a surprise, especially since "Pacific Bright" contains some wonderful material. Opener "Mnemba", for example, is a stunning sunset soundscape bristling with lazy guitar solos and fluid pianos, while "La Digue" wraps synthesized marimba melodies around a chunky, dub-disco inspired Balearic groove. Also worth checking is "Roatan", an intensely picturesque soundscape full of elongated chords, lilting trumpet solos and gentle Spanish guitars.

Review: Eclectics has been quietly getting on with the business of releasing essential music for over a year now, establishing itself as a label that has quality as the only constant in a wide-ranging back catalogue. This latest release is no exception, but that's not to say it isn't exceptional. All the way from Daytona Beach in Florida, Justin Weems aka Faint Waves, brings music to fall for in a big way. The Paradise Lost EP features the soothing, shimmering celestial new age tones of the title track, which receives a neon-lit rework by San Francisco's Dream Chimney. Then the chilled-out balearica of "Sea Of Dreams" also gets remixed: this time by Sentrall Records Rollmottle who takes it into deep and dark kosmische territory.

Review: AIMES is the production moniker and musical alter ego of Alabama born, Brooklyn resident, Aman Ellis. Fresh off releases on Wonder Stories, Spa In Disco and Pole Position, his signature brand of "spacey disco" with synth-pop sensibilities is on fine display once again for new imprint eclectics who rein him in to follow up great releases recently by James Rod, Mr BC and Coyote. Featuring the deeply emotive boogie-down antics of "You Should Be Feeling Wonderful , the sunkissed balearica of "Sun Lit Lazy" and a couple of pretty awesome remixes. Our favourite was certainly by the UK legend Chris Coco who serves up blissful, neon-lit island dream on his fabulous rendition here of "Bomba Espacio".

Review: Coyote's wide-reaching assortment of post-balearic disco sounds never ceases to please our demanding eardrums, and the duo have done it once again with this tidy EP to launch the Eclectics imprint. "Too Late To Be Scared" travels majestically from start to finish, swaying its groove with slow, liquid-like synths that melt over mid-tempo house drums; there's a Dark Drift mix which ups the tempo a notch and lands on heavier 4/4 territories, while the ambient version revels in an airy, almost angelic wave of sounds that bounce along with the help of subtle subbass injections. A class outing.
