Review: Ravi Binning's Thought Broadcast moniker is a manifestation of the artist's experimental edge at its most organic. We've been told that only the grittiest and most archaic of production methods went into the making of this record - analog machinery and a heavy focus on tape manipulation, most specifically - and it's exactly this which makes Benning's third LP for Editions Mego so special. From start to finish, the music is dense and chilling, but at the same time raw and stripped to the bone. Benning's singular drone twists move cleverly along rich soundscapes made up of glacial effects and even subtle swirls of noise, demonstrated ably on "Runaway Signal". It's not all completely abstract, however, and the grainy beats of tracks like "Carving A Bow" or even "Forged Body" make this album a certified winner on all fronts.

Review: The ever prolific Kevin Drumm is back on Editions Mego after his last outing on the label with the Relief single in 2012. Trouble is a long-form piece that deals in the most subtle harmonic tones, from barely audible sub drifts to distant cries of strings from his signature weapon of choice, the tabletop guitar. There are moments when the sound swells ominously, and progressively over the duration of nearly an hour the sound reshapes itself with glacial progress. Occasionally it falls away again, only to re-emerge in a marginally altered configuration, but over the slow-moving course of the album the subtle shifts are less significant than the overall swell of the piece as a single solid experience.

Review: As his sonic identity gets ever more convoluted, Nick 'Ekoplekz' Edwards returns to Editions Mego with a new album of sonic studies that take his madcap dub antics into more friendly terrain where melodic tones can exist in his signal chain without being suppressed by malevolent noise. "Wrekskillz" is positively soothing as lush notes pulse out through delay units and the birds twitter above, and you feel a world away from the bleak decay of traditional Ekoplekz fare. "Wrekfree" does away with such niceties, but there's still a greater sense of restraint at work that continues across the rest of the release even as the morbid vibes return in abundance.

Review: Editions Mego continue their ever-impressive run of form with new signing, Kassel Jaeger, a Paris-based sonic maverick. Conceptual is the word here, with Jaeger stretching a recurring pattern throughout all the tracks. By combining rare instruments and electronic manipulation, the results are as eclectic as they are seductive. This is one which should be heads from start to finish and possibly in a contemplative sort of mood because it's bound to really hit you over the head and send you spinning off into outer space. If you're a fan of the label, you most certainly won't be disappointed...

Review: Klara Lewis made her debut with an LP for Editions Mego back in 2014, and she's been relatively quiet on the Western front since then. She's returned to the label with a new album, however, the unambiguously named Too. Much like her previous work, this is an album of pure experimentation and subtlety, bound together by Lewis' refreshing take on drone and ambient. Although the sounds themselves aren't revolutionary, it's Lewis' arrangements and production that render these hollow segments into living, breathing animals. Another fine instalment of the mighty Editions Mego.

Review: Always positioned gleefully on the edge of any discernible music scene, Russell Haswell has never been shy of confrontation in the sound he disseminates. That he now rubs shoulders with darlings such as Powell and the like is merely happenstance - he will continue doing his thing unabated. So it is on this malevolent but surprisingly danceable single track for Editions Mego, which places a simple disco beat at the back of the mix and leaves the rest of the space free for an especially nasty distorted synth line to squeal and wail its way through eleven minutes of pure rave energy. Hearing this over a big system may well prove to be a life affirming or spirit crushing experience.

Review: Alan Licht is an American guitarist and composer who has collaborated with everyone from Jim O' Rourke, Loren Mazzacane Connors and Boredoms (to name but a few) since the 1980's. Tetuzi Akiyama is a Japanese guitarist and violinist who has worked with Keiji Haino and David Sylvian as well as leading his own projects such as Sutekina Tea Time and Mongoose. On Tomorrow Outside Tomorrow the two artists collaborate with some legends of music such as Australian experimentalist Oren Ambarchi on "Blues Deceiver" which Editions Mego describe best themselves as "a dirty crawling mass of feedback, fluctuating vibrations, garage frequencies and distant interference". On the title track, Windy City legend Rob Mazurek lends his cornet skills to the duo and create some truly wonderful explorations in the blues.

Review: After a three year absence, the collaborative project of Ilpo Vaisanen and Dirk Dresselhaus (better known as Schneider TM) yields a new album for their regular haunt Editions Mego, and it's a subtle beast that rewards patient and attentive ears. "Naked Land" growls and prowls over 26 minutes of mutant groans and drones fizzing with acoustic energy, while "Monolake" brings proceedings down to a more tense, restrained level of disturbing noise. "Colonialists" takes the high-frequency road with a multitude of nerve-jangling soundwaves merging into one slow-release cacophony, and "Quake" finishes off with some grungy distortion reaching towards a twisted kind of musicality.

Review: As you might expect of a man formerly associated with Godflesh and Main, Robert Hampson's solo ventures have continued to delve deeper into the realms of drone and noise, here continuing a series of performances with two elongated pieces formed into an album for Mego. Both installments of "Suspended Cadences" deal in slowly shifting layers merged into one, eschewing any rhythm in favour of one sustained sonic presence that alters in shape as time drags on. It's an exercise in subtlety and sound design with the power to draw you in and subject you as the frequencies undulate gently.

Review: Robert Hampson is something of an unsung hero within the drone/noise circuit - an impressive catalogue of seminal releases dating from the 90s have yet to bring him into the limelight. This could all be pr-planned of course, and this latest LP on Editions Mego is certainly proof of his ability to produce rugged soundscape terrains and chilling sci-fi reminiscent electronic music. Both pieces are a near twenty minutes of mutating melodies, effects and synthesizers, with "Signaux 1" representing Hampson's more impulsive side - sharp tones and trickling noises develop into a thick layer of fuzzy sonics and feedback. "Signaux 2" is a more sparse outlook into the possibilities of tone repeats and oscillator drones, one which favours subtlety and fine tweaking. Highly recommended.

Review: Also available on cassette, this latest Kevin Drumm release for Editions Mego is another fine example of the time-lapsing craft that the Chicago-based artist has made his own over a monolithic volume of releases. Split into two fifteen minute pieces, both sides of Shut In centre around a constant hum that modulates with glacial patience that renders the pace of the world outside irrelevant. It's the ultimate in musical subtlety, not to mention wholly comforting and engrossing once you submit yourself to the exercise. By the time additional harmonies and resonance seep into the sound its hard to tell how far through you might be, and of course it hardly matters. Truly transcendental tones for those who like to play the long game.

Review: Those who were beguiled by Mark Fell's recent collaboration with DJ Sprinkles and his deep house leaning Sensate Focus releases will be similarly enamoured with Sentielle Objectif Actualite. Purportedly containing seven remixes of the first three 12" singles released on his Sensate Focus imprint, the music contained within strikes an intriguing middle ground between the Kerri Chandler and Chez Damier inspired house of those singles and his hyper-processed earlier albums on Raster Noton and Editions Mego, with clinical rhythmic elements playing off against hyperdigitised but warm melodics. If anything this might be the perfect Fell album - highly recommended.

Review: Forgoing the relative delicacy of his predominantly guitar focused Touch releases for something altogether more complex, Sagittarian Domain sees him adopt a more complex compositional approach. Held together with his own powerful, Krautrock inspired drumming, thick slabs of ominous Moog bass, searing walls of amplified guitar, and dramatic string section, Sagittarian Domain is just as impressive as you'd expect from Editions Mego, and a bold step forward for the artist.

Review: Kevin Drumm has never been afraid of conjuring relentless doses of synth-kissed noise drones - he's appeared on various labels including the recently spawned Hospital Productions and more established noise outfits such as Aaron Dilloway's Hanson Records. Relief is nothing short of terrifying and right from its first segment, "Part 1", a merciless collection of hollow frequencies and frenetic white noise mask the swallowed melodies within its core. "Part 2" is a continuation of the same process, a meticulous experimentation of disembowelled feedback and modular static. "Part 3" is Drumm's most epic moment on the LP; the previously subdued tones are propelled into motion and produce a clearly audible guitar riff amidst its wild but equally outstanding chaos. A must for the true noise enthusiasts out there!
