Review: Following outings on Popular People's Front and Whiskey Disco, Rhythm Plate man Ant Plate brings his YSE Saint Laur'ant alias to Editorial for the first time. As you might expect from a man of his experience, the quality threshold is high, and the source material obscure. He opens with the low-slung, Japanese-influenced, Tom Tom Club style disco-funk of "Bow Legged Robot", before taking things up a notch with the classic disco groove, tight horns and swirling strings of "Keep In Step". There's more classic strings and eyes-closed builds to be found on the superb "When Are You Gonna Land", which benefits greatly from a killer percussive break midway through. Finally, he serves up a delicious chunk of summery jazz-funk/disco fusion on the decidedly breezy, Brazilian sounding closer "The Optimistic Voyeur".

Review: The Editorial label like their tunes slow and groovy, and here we have their 15th comp of such laconic boogie numbers. There are four varieties of disco flavours to try here beginning with Tony Tee's dubbed out disco-house jam, "Can I Get Def", before progressing on to Woodhead's shimmering poolside workout "Cinnamon" the fastest tune on here. From there it's back down to the raunchy slap-bass loops of "West Garda Lake" by Stereo 12 and winding up nicely with the warm Mediterranean breeze of "You're A Dream" by Arequipa Ensemble.

Review: Having previously appeared on Homebreakin' records, it was probably only a matter of time before Vancouver's Darren Woodhead popped up on Montreal's Editorial Records. Next To You is a typically cheery, floor-friendly EP, blending classic funk, soul disco and boogie samples with subtle house and breaks grooves. As a result, there's plenty to excite, from the jazzy guitar solos and sun-kissed disco grooves of "You Blew It", to the dreamy electrofunk shuffle of "So Devine". Those in search of straight-up dancefloor dynamite should head for opener "Party Hearty", a swinging, good-time funk/nu-disco hybrid featuring rubbery bass and razor-sharp horns aplenty.

Review: More from the popular and hard-working Editorial camp, as they unfurl another five track exercise in joining the dots between disco and house. Label regulars Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee kick things off with "In Funk We Trust", a groovesome disco-funk edit with just the right amount of contemporary production wizardry (think tightened up grooves and drawn-out filters). Loz Goddard dips a toe into deep disco-house territory with the woozy "Over Ur Shoulder", while Tonbe gives a classic funk tune the 4/4 treatment on "Boss of Funk". The two standouts, though, are Brutal Disco's baggy, boogie-influenced head-nodder "Get Down", and Woodhead's midtempo delight "You Gotta Go", a low-down chunk of pitched-down soul.

Review: The last installment of Editorial's 'Waxed' series seems like quite a while ago, but now part six is here and it's worth the wait. The mo-mo grooves of the previous edition have been replaced by a more euphoric boogie vibe. "Power Of Funk" features catchy brass work, seriously elastic bass and a super anthemic chorus. Elsewhere we also get restrained electro-boogie "Lose Control" and a meandering '70s boudoir grind called "Soft Landing". However it's the sublime glistening loops of "Lucy Called" that's got us truly spellbound.

Review: Over the last few years, the Editorial imprint - an outlet for disco, electrofunk and house-centric re-edits and reworks - has established a winning formula: expansive, compilation style EPs featuring tracks from a wide range of scalpel-wielding talents. This 33rd excursion sticks to the script, offering another quintet of floor-friendly rubs. There's a dash of heavyweight P-funk (Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee's forthright "Saturday Night"), some cut-and-paste, sampleadelic beats (Future Feelings' Steinski-ish "Basement Jam"), a sprinkling of deep disco-house (Matt Hughes, P-Sol) and a fluid, Aim-ish trip into downtempo instrumental hip-hop territory (Riccio's electric piano-heavy "Reflections").

Review: It's been a good four months since the last EP from formidable disco/funk/soul twosome Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee. Here they return to the Editorial label (their usual home) with five more chunks of party-starting scalpel action. Naturally, there's plenty to get the juices flowing, from the rubbery bass, rolling grooves and undulating strings of "Boogie Box", and the whistle-laden disco-funk heaviness of "Groove Catcher", to the unfettered, looped-up sweetness of "Givin' Ya Up". Best of all, though, is the party-in-an-MP3 release of opener "Up 2 Get Down", a horn-totin' slab of disco-funk that hits all the right notes.

Review: Having previously appeared on a dizzying number of split EPs from the Chopshop and Editorial labels (amongst others), Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee are finally given a release they can call their own. The Chop 40 (we sniggered, at least) is typical of their output to date, flitting between loopy, filter-heavy takes on sumptuous soul and disco jams (see the baggy house grooves and classic horns of "Push Da Groove" and slap bass-boasting "Bounce & Shake"), straight-up funk edits (the riotous "Sho'nuff") and slower excursions. It's the latter that arguably stand out here, with the string-laden sweetness of "Dance 2 Da Musique" and decidedly Balearic "Pinky" both impressing.

Luvless - "Deluvation" - (6:03) 112 BPM

Review: Aside from their digital-only content (and there are new EPs every couple of weeks, it seems), Editorial also release on vinyl. Here, their most recent 12" outing comes to digital (hence the "Waxed" title). As usual, there's plenty to enjoy, as a quartet of imprint regulars explore the middle ground between disco and warm, sunny deep house. Jay West impresses with the unfussy sweetness and dreamy soulfulness of "Now That You Know", while Luvless works the filters hard on his chunky "Deluvation". Arguably the best material, though, comes from label bosses Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee. Of their two tracks, it's the bumpin', funk-influenced grooves, rising strings and bumpin' bottom end of "Sweet 2 Me" that most impresses.

Review: With sunshine bathing much of Britain, it seems a fitting time for the Editorial label to celebrate the arrival of summer. Heat WAVs, their latest split EP, oozes sun-kissed warmth. Voodoo Whiskey kicks things off with the hazy Balearic deep house bliss of "Desert Stroll", before "Joutro Mundo" drops some compressed disco edit action in the shape of the rather lovely "Roller Shake". Woodhead and Hakatone continue the celebratory feel with a pair of righteous disco-funk bumpers (the superb "Party Down Tonight" and "Sugarbaby" respectively), before Tikki draws an excellent EP to a close with "The Crooner", a curious but effective combination of easy listening vocals and swinging house grooves.

Review: Sneaky re-edit imprint Editorial likes to offer good value. As with previous releases, "Cross Corner" features no less than six floor-friendly reworks to satisfy the needs of all but the pickiest disco divas. While there are a couple of merely solid versions of well-known hits (Grace Jones and Marvin Gaye both get cut-up), there are far more high quality re-arrangements of lesser-known gems. Of particular interest are the contributions from The Legendary 1979 Orchestra and Manmademusic, both of whom wonderfully stretch out soul-flecked disco gems with inch-perfect precision.

Review: This seven-track collection of disco re-edits from the Editorial camp has a lot to offer - not least previously unreleased cuts from fast-rising scalpel starlets Matthew 'MK' Kyle and Rayko. It's Kyle who steals the show, laying down a typically groovesome deep house/disco cut that boasts some particularly blissful jazz-funk guitar samples. Rayko's cut - a dancefloor-friendly re-dub of "What Did You Do To Me?" - is as solid and playable as you'd expect. Elsewhere, debutant Noodleman excels with the deep fried cosmic funk of "Teachin' & Tryin", and Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee bring the heavyweight party flavours with "Get Some".

Containing six tracks of summery re-jigged fun, the EP kicks off with Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee's "Glow Of Dub'. Further highlights include the 70s porno-funk of B-Jam's "Infinity", the Herb-Alpert-does-The- Loveboat vibe of "What Makes You Believe" by The Lonely smoker, but it's Copycat's 'Heaven Or Hell", with it's killer arpeggiated riff and steel drums that's true gem here.

Review: The Editorial crew present their 18th release in less than two years, and it's another bumper selection of scalpel jobs primed for house dancefloors. 78 Edits opens proceedings with a typical slow burner, before DJ Steef delivers one of the highlights - a simmering soul chugger that rises and falls in all the right places. The Candy Dealers opt for a super dubbed-out electrofunk vibe on their vast "Don't Stop", before DJ Butcher provides some sturdy, floor-friendly fare in the shape of "Clap & Stomp". The undisputed highlight, though, is The Lonely Smoker's "Keep The Same", a loopy, chunky version of Thelma Jones' soul classic "How Long" that's got serious chops.

Review: On the back of their decidedly smoochy Show Me Love EP, the scalpel fiends and disco/house crossover monkeys at Editorial HQ take another trip into the world of soft-focus groovery. As usual, there's plenty of decidedly touchy-feely fare to enjoy, from the tough bass and twinkling synths of Elias Tzikas' "Just For You" and Tiger & Woods-on-valium vibes of Sellouts' "Let Me Work", to the sensual, slo-mo soul of Get Down Edits' "Two-Timin' Lady". The ever-cheeky Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee pair up for a silly, delay-laden re-tweak of the Knight Rider theme tune (really), whilst Debonair offers up a slick chunk of rush-inducing disco-house loveliness. Here they keep the heat on with a new summer-friendly compilation, Golden Grooves. There are 15 choice cuts here, all of which employ a formula of providing a mellow house frame on which to hang some filtered vintage samples. Review: Editorial's policy of giving their split EPs of edits and reworks a distinctive theme has always been a bit of a winner. Here, they return to the world of slo-mo, soul-flecked edits, with a quintet of sumptuous scalpel works for our delectation. 78 Edits impresses with the winding sax, horizontal bump and head-nodding grooves of "Meet Patti", while DJ Moar offers up a slinky, electric bass-driven ride into slow disco-house territory in the shape of the Rhodes-laden "King Bob". Hot Box and P-Sol both deliver heavily compressed, filter-sporting toe-tappers for those warm-up moments where you just want to get locked into the groove, while Jona Saucedo brilliantly combines dubbed-out modern soul vocals with an attractive loop from Fonda Rae's boogie classic "Touch Me".

Review: This time round, fast-fingered re-edit evangelists Editorial have set their sights on breathing new life into dusty, obscure and occasionally much-played soul nuggets. Those with a passion for the dubbed-out, slo-mo end of the contemporary re-edit scene will enjoy 78 Edits' typically hypnotic "Slick" and DJ Raw Sugar's charmer "Barry Me Softly" (yep, the Walrus of Love gets a tweak). If you like your grooves a little more uptempo, you'll devour Disco Tech's delightful "Tight Money" - an unlikely anthem in waiting, we reckon - and Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee's dubby disco-funk groover "Movin". It all adds up to an impressive selection of well thought-out reworks.

Some of our faves from this eight-track compilation include Bloody Tadi's deep, soulful and sublime houser "Take A Ride", the shimmering disco haze of Alfonso's "Only Love" and Suptil's beautifully distant sensuous future-memory, "Metro To Paradise 84".

Australia's Dr Packer leads the charge with a sublime spaced out version of Teena Maries' slap bass classic Behind The Groove. Further highlights include the slo-mo, hands in the air vibes of "Bionic Love" by Robjamweb and the orchestrated '70s glamour beat of "Smile" by Black Rebel.

There are nine fine jams contained on Spring Thing comp, some of the (many) highlights include the sweet and tender boogie-pop of "Good 4 You" by the artfully-punned Serge Gamesbourg, the throbbing bass loops of the sublime "Closer & Closer" and the mesmerising fusion of punk-funk bass and sunshine keyboard melodies on "Brighter" by Dagfest.

Review: Gather round: Editorial is revealing the contents of the mythical "Disco Scrolls", a sacred document for all those who kneel at the altar of the Church of Nu-Disco. It contains eight audio commandments, all of which should be listened to intently. Salvation comes first via the fluid nu-disco positivity of Bica's "Endless Rhodes" and the disco-house grooves of the soulful and musically expansive "Because I'm Black" by Old Chap. Elsewhere, you'll find righteous testimony from Hotmood (via the deep disco-funk of "Only Your Mom Calls Me Daddy"), The Owl (the boisterous horns and filter tricks of "Shake"), Frank Virgilio (the lolloping party disco-funk of "Out Here"), Labour Of Love (the bassline-driven percussion-fest that is "Good Feelin") and NFC and Key Sokur (the rubbery and down-low disco fun of "City Affair").

As usual, there's a veritable skip-load of peak-time goodness to be found on the label's latest collection of reworks and re-edits. We're particularly enjoying the mazy jazz-funk synths and elastic slap-bass action of HotMood's lolloping "Hey You" and the rolling, Blaxploitation fuelled disco-house business of Ed Wizard and Disco Double D's "Diesel Power", though the sleazy boogie swirl of C Da Afro's "Intimate Disco Stories" and the horn-heavy, slo-mo disco-funk bounce of Tonbe's "It's Not Over" also set our pulses racing.

Review: Having proved more than adept at delivering contemporary re-jigs of disco, soul and electrofunk obscurities, the Editorial crew continue to blur the boundaries between re-edits and original production with a decidedly laidback, groovesome EP of summery tracks. Predictably, there's much to enjoy, from the baggy, organ-and-guitar heavy deep disco goodness of Tonbe's "Letter From The Past", to the horizontal listening pleasures of Sunner Soul's slo-mo surprise "Caribbean Wind". In between, you'll find a range of tasty, floor-friendly morsels, including the delay-laden piano party of SonicVibe's "No Cure" and the rolling disco heaviness of Martin Hayes' "Mesmerized".

Review: Slick Serbian nu-disco maestro Tonbe has released on a variety of killer labels including Midnight Riot, Disco Dat and Vendition, and now he graces the Editorial roster with a debut five-tracker, "True Love". The title track is a slinky, sauntering slice of velvety late night disco that could have come from the Off The Wall sessions. Ed Wizzard and Disco Dee add live drums, trumpets and even some vocoders for a more playful remix. Elsewhere we get beefed up Italo ("Beginning Of The Summer"), sleazy disco punk funk ("I Don't Care") and the homage to the retro sounds of Roger Troutman et al, "Easy Ride".

Review: Hold tight for more boozy dancefloor excess from the Editorial crew, a collective of re-editors whose musical output is always worth a listen. The seven-track missive begins with a chunk of electric piano-laden samba/jazz-funk magic courtesy of Nik M, before sometime Hot Digits and Midnight Riot man Frank Virgillio offers a more piano and percussion-laden chunk of sun-kissed Brazilian magic. Labor of Love gets the disco juices flowing via the cowbell-heavy shuffle of disco funker "Like I Do", The Funk District reach for the Clavinets on hazy roller "Baby Got It" and I Gemin smothers a tasty groove in liquid synths and deep house flourishes on "Oh Baby". To round things off, C Da Afro rearranges a warm and groovy electrofunk jam and Rica lays down some colourful nu-disco deepness.

Review: With Valentines Day just around the corner, Editorial changes tack and takes a step into the world of loved-up, slo-mo groovery. It's a smart move. They've got some great up-and-coming producers involved, with Matthew Kyle's pal Joseph Terruel and Aussie moustache man Rocco Raimundo both offering deliciously deep, spine-tingling rubs. The latter's epic, filter-heavy "Looking For You" is arguably one of the best things he's done to date - a sinewy, string-laden disco slow dance that should impress all but the most miserable of disco purists. Heion's "Run" and DJ Steef's "I Can Win" are gorgeous, too, offering loopy, bass-heavy grooves with just the right amount of lip-smacking charm.

Review: Experienced French producer Stephane Deschezeaux launched The Family's Jam project earlier this year, with a fine collection of revivalist disco, boogie and P-funk instrumentals on his Springbok Records imprint. Here, he pops up on Editorial with two more inspired chunks of baggy dancefloor goodness. Opener "Let's Rock" is the killer cut, with wild analogue synth solos and P-funk squiggles stretching out over an attractive bed of warm electric bass and clipped, Chic-style disco guitars. Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee remix, lowering the tempo, quantizing the beats and making great use of Deschezeaux's tasty synth work. Bonus cut "Dance Line" explores similar territory, with bolder guitars and some cheeky horns.

Review: Nu disco re-edit label Editorial seem to be continuing on their recent deep slo-mo direction. Their fifth label comp/EP sees them in fine fettle, with Sellouts delivering the deep n loopy "Satisfy" (a deceptively powerful dancefloor builder), Deep&Disco's "Otis Held Tight" is a beautifully sparse yet soulful outing, Manuel Shagun's "So Good" provides an amazing glammy disco stomp, riddled with samples and all the better for it, while the party winds up with the cruising blue sky funk of The Noodleman's "3rd Time".

Review: Super Value Edits frontman Riccio touches down on the similarly discofied Editorial outlet with four freaky-deaky disco joints in an ultra-sleek, contemporary flavour. "I've Loved It" is a grizzly boogie attack complete with a funky guitar riff and wailing vocals, "Put Some Love In Your Life" is slower, more soulful and utterly sexy, while "Flute" is a wonderful DJ tool that'd go down a storm in any Moodymann set. "Little Drummer" provides something more tropical and this release is seriously recommended for the disco heads!

Review: If you've not come across Palafico Honey before, there's a good reason: it's a brand-new project from Eleanor Beale, a little-known - but clearly talented - audio-visual artist based in London. 'Bigger Dreaming' is really rather good, with Beale adding classy, jazz-inflected lead vocals to a warming jazz-funk-meets-disco backing track rich in jaunty electric piano chords, jazz guitar flourishes and rubbery, boogie style bass. Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee re-imagine the cut as a more low-slung slab of P-funk flavoured disco-funk, before Funk District successfully turns it into a bouncy chunk of disco-house cheeriness. As debut singles go, it's a bit of a doozy.
