Review: Sneaky re-edit imprint Editorial likes to offer good value. As with previous releases, "Cross Corner" features no less than six floor-friendly reworks to satisfy the needs of all but the pickiest disco divas. While there are a couple of merely solid versions of well-known hits (Grace Jones and Marvin Gaye both get cut-up), there are far more high quality re-arrangements of lesser-known gems. Of particular interest are the contributions from The Legendary 1979 Orchestra and Manmademusic, both of whom wonderfully stretch out soul-flecked disco gems with inch-perfect precision.

Review: This seven-track collection of disco re-edits from the Editorial camp has a lot to offer - not least previously unreleased cuts from fast-rising scalpel starlets Matthew 'MK' Kyle and Rayko. It's Kyle who steals the show, laying down a typically groovesome deep house/disco cut that boasts some particularly blissful jazz-funk guitar samples. Rayko's cut - a dancefloor-friendly re-dub of "What Did You Do To Me?" - is as solid and playable as you'd expect. Elsewhere, debutant Noodleman excels with the deep fried cosmic funk of "Teachin' & Tryin", and Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee bring the heavyweight party flavours with "Get Some".

Review: With Valentines Day just around the corner, Editorial changes tack and takes a step into the world of loved-up, slo-mo groovery. It's a smart move. They've got some great up-and-coming producers involved, with Matthew Kyle's pal Joseph Terruel and Aussie moustache man Rocco Raimundo both offering deliciously deep, spine-tingling rubs. The latter's epic, filter-heavy "Looking For You" is arguably one of the best things he's done to date - a sinewy, string-laden disco slow dance that should impress all but the most miserable of disco purists. Heion's "Run" and DJ Steef's "I Can Win" are gorgeous, too, offering loopy, bass-heavy grooves with just the right amount of lip-smacking charm.

Review: Editorial, the label who profess to wanting 'to make you move.... slowly, and with purpose', are back with the 19th instalment in their disco edit series. Containing six tracks of summery re-jigged fun, the EP kicks off with Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee's "Glow Of Dub'. Further highlights include the 70s porno-funk of B-Jam's "Infinity", the Herb-Alpert-does-The- Loveboat vibe of "What Makes You Believe" by The Lonely smoker, but it's Copycat's 'Heaven Or Hell", with it's killer arpeggiated riff and steel drums that's true gem here.

Review: The scalpel fiends and rework hounds behind the Editorial label rarely disappoint, and this latest split EP is packed with floor-friendly midtempo goodies. The most revelatory cut of all is Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee's "Slow Fire", a delicious 109 BPM bumper that re-casts Gwen McRae's electrofunk-era disco bomb as a stoned head-nodder. It works so well that you wonder why nobody's done it before. Elsewhere, there's some sweet groovery from Feza, a surprisingly percussive disco-funk jam from the usually dawdling 78 Edits, and a decidedly Balearic jazz-funk excursion from Manmademusic and Freshtone. Really, it's only the usually on-point B-Jam who lets the side down with the so-so "Everyday".

Virgin Magnetic Material - "Fly" - (6:08) 97 BPM Hot
Review: Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee are arguably Editorial's most overworked duo; rarely a release slips out of the label's clandestine, underground HQ without at least one of their sneaky re-cuts on it. Here, they deliver two smart and sassy re-interpretations. The first, "Inner City", is a dubby, jazzy take on Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)" that profits from some booming house bottom end. "Magic", on the other hand, has a delightful looseness - all lazy, loping breaks, sweet jazz guitars and rasping horns. Another solid Editorial EP is completed by Virgin Magnetic Material's "Fly", a faithfully Balearic re-incarnation of Steve Miller Band's "Fly Like An Eagle".

Review: The Editorial crew present their 18th release in less than two years, and it's another bumper selection of scalpel jobs primed for house dancefloors. 78 Edits opens proceedings with a typical slow burner, before DJ Steef delivers one of the highlights - a simmering soul chugger that rises and falls in all the right places. The Candy Dealers opt for a super dubbed-out electrofunk vibe on their vast "Don't Stop", before DJ Butcher provides some sturdy, floor-friendly fare in the shape of "Clap & Stomp". The undisputed highlight, though, is The Lonely Smoker's "Keep The Same", a loopy, chunky version of Thelma Jones' soul classic "How Long" that's got serious chops.

Review: On the back of their decidedly smoochy Show Me Love EP, the scalpel fiends and disco/house crossover monkeys at Editorial HQ take another trip into the world of soft-focus groovery. As usual, there's plenty of decidedly touchy-feely fare to enjoy, from the tough bass and twinkling synths of Elias Tzikas' "Just For You" and Tiger & Woods-on-valium vibes of Sellouts' "Let Me Work", to the sensual, slo-mo soul of Get Down Edits' "Two-Timin' Lady". The ever-cheeky Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee pair up for a silly, delay-laden re-tweak of the Knight Rider theme tune (really), whilst Debonair offers up a slick chunk of rush-inducing disco-house loveliness. Top stuff.

Review: Editorial Records have been delivering top selling 'slo-mo disco and deep grooves...from around the globe' since 2009. Here they keep the heat on with a new summer-friendly compilation, Golden Grooves. There are 15 choice cuts here, all of which employ a formula of providing a mellow house frame on which to hang some filtered vintage samples. Highlights include the serpentine bassline of Matt Hughes' cocktail-houser "Rodeo Warrior", the Minnie Ripperton-with-a-backbeat haze of "The Spirit" by The Groovers and the spacey hiNRG disco of "Body Heat".

Review: Over the last few years, the Editorial imprint - an outlet for disco, electrofunk and house-centric re-edits and reworks - has established a winning formula: expansive, compilation style EPs featuring tracks from a wide range of scalpel-wielding talents. This 33rd excursion sticks to the script, offering another quintet of floor-friendly rubs. There's a dash of heavyweight P-funk (Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee's forthright "Saturday Night"), some cut-and-paste, sampleadelic beats (Future Feelings' Steinski-ish "Basement Jam"), a sprinkling of deep disco-house (Matt Hughes, P-Sol) and a fluid, Aim-ish trip into downtempo instrumental hip-hop territory (Riccio's electric piano-heavy "Reflections").

Review: Aside from their digital-only content (and there are new EPs every couple of weeks, it seems), Editorial also release on vinyl. Here, their most recent 12" outing comes to digital (hence the "Waxed" title). As usual, there's plenty to enjoy, as a quartet of imprint regulars explore the middle ground between disco and warm, sunny deep house. Jay West impresses with the unfussy sweetness and dreamy soulfulness of "Now That You Know", while Luvless works the filters hard on his chunky "Deluvation". Arguably the best material, though, comes from label bosses Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee. Of their two tracks, it's the bumpin', funk-influenced grooves, rising strings and bumpin' bottom end of "Sweet 2 Me" that most impresses.

B-Jam - "Have Some" - (5:00) 102 BPM
Review: The cheeky scamps at Editorial can usually be relied on to bring the goodness. This latest split EP is, predictably, bulging with highlights. Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee drop a bit of deep house/rubbery disco fusion on the head-nodder's fave "The Way You Move", while Aussie Jad & The Ladyboy ops for a sinewy, seductive, ultra-deep house vibe on his sumptuous "Love Is". B-Jam's "Have Some" is an almost X-rated chunk of electrofunk cut-up madness, all backwards cuts, grunting grooves and stuttering edits. There's a dash of straight-up disco in the form of Joutro Mundo's stretched-out "Body Heat", while Tonbe impresses with "Hot Ivy", a hip-grinding slice of electrofunk badness with analogue synths by the shipload.

Review: Having proved more than adept at delivering contemporary re-jigs of disco, soul and electrofunk obscurities, the Editorial crew continue to blur the boundaries between re-edits and original production with a decidedly laidback, groovesome EP of summery tracks. Predictably, there's much to enjoy, from the baggy, organ-and-guitar heavy deep disco goodness of Tonbe's "Letter From The Past", to the horizontal listening pleasures of Sunner Soul's slo-mo surprise "Caribbean Wind". In between, you'll find a range of tasty, floor-friendly morsels, including the delay-laden piano party of SonicVibe's "No Cure" and the rolling disco heaviness of Martin Hayes' "Mesmerized".

Review: More from the popular and hard-working Editorial camp, as they unfurl another five track exercise in joining the dots between disco and house. Label regulars Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee kick things off with "In Funk We Trust", a groovesome disco-funk edit with just the right amount of contemporary production wizardry (think tightened up grooves and drawn-out filters). Loz Goddard dips a toe into deep disco-house territory with the woozy "Over Ur Shoulder", while Tonbe gives a classic funk tune the 4/4 treatment on "Boss of Funk". The two standouts, though, are Brutal Disco's baggy, boogie-influenced head-nodder "Get Down", and Woodhead's midtempo delight "You Gotta Go", a low-down chunk of pitched-down soul.

Review: Slick Serbian nu-disco maestro Tonbe has released on a variety of killer labels including Midnight Riot, Disco Dat and Vendition, and now he graces the Editorial roster with a debut five-tracker, "True Love". The title track is a slinky, sauntering slice of velvety late night disco that could have come from the Off The Wall sessions. Ed Wizzard and Disco Dee add live drums, trumpets and even some vocoders for a more playful remix. Elsewhere we get beefed up Italo ("Beginning Of The Summer"), sleazy disco punk funk ("I Don't Care") and the homage to the retro sounds of Roger Troutman et al, "Easy Ride".

The imprint's most storied outfit, Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee, kick things off with the lolloping, piano-heavy disco positivity of "Spirit Power" - where sampled female speech provides an interesting focal point - while slow disco stalwart Duff Disco delivers the head-nodding, toe-tapping warm-up warmth of "Burning Hot". Elsewhere, Hotmood ups the heat and tempo on the P-funk-fired stomp of "I Was Born in Mexico" and Alex Zuiev lightly beefs up a swirling peak-time disco jam on EP standout "I Feel Funky".

Here, they return to the world of slo-mo, soul-flecked edits, with a quintet of sumptuous scalpel works for our delectation. 78 Edits impresses with the winding sax, horizontal bump and head-nodding grooves of "Meet Patti", while DJ Moar offers up a slinky, electric bass-driven ride into slow disco-house territory in the shape of the Rhodes-laden "King Bob". Hot Box and P-Sol both deliver heavily compressed, filter-sporting toe-tappers for those warm-up moments where you just want to get locked into the groove, while Jona Saucedo brilliantly combines dubbed-out modern soul vocals with an attractive loop from Fonda Rae's boogie classic "Touch Me".

Review: There are plenty of re-editors and rework merchants with larger discographies than Editorial regulars Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee, though few who deliver quite as consistently. Further proof arrives via their first outing of 2020, "Soul Shakers", a four-track collection of reworks based around breathing new life into dusty soul jams. The sweatiest and more obviously peak-time focused cut is undoubtedly the dense and energy-packed percussion workout "Spaced Drumz" (and yes, it lives up to the title), though celebratory disco-soul rework "Make Some Love" will also get hearts pounding out on the dancefloor. Of the EP's two slower and chuggier moments, it's the wonderfully hazy opener "Do The Thang" that's our pick.

Review: If you've not come across Palafico Honey before, there's a good reason: it's a brand-new project from Eleanor Beale, a little-known - but clearly talented - audio-visual artist based in London. 'Bigger Dreaming' is really rather good, with Beale adding classy, jazz-inflected lead vocals to a warming jazz-funk-meets-disco backing track rich in jaunty electric piano chords, jazz guitar flourishes and rubbery, boogie style bass. Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee re-imagine the cut as a more low-slung slab of P-funk flavoured disco-funk, before Funk District successfully turns it into a bouncy chunk of disco-house cheeriness. As debut singles go, it's a bit of a doozy.

That Sunny Breeze (feat Azul Fourcade) - (6:10) 113 BPM
Review: Something a little different from Editorial here, as NGC, Key Sokur and Alexny join forces to deliver three heady slabs of Discosmic goodness. They begin in fine fashion with 'Discosmic', where French spoken word vocals, tight organ licks and flanged guitars ride a hazy disco-house groove, before joining the dots between immersive deep house and sparkling nu-disco on the swirling, sunset-ready treat that is 'High People'. Best of all though is accurately titled closing cut 'Summer Breeze', a collaboration with Azul Fourcade that adds sweet, jazz-style vocals to a colourful, mid-tempo backing track rich in glistening piano motifs, elongated organ chords and swooping synth-strings.

Review: Mexican funk and disco producer Hot Mood (AKA Guillermo Gonzalez) comes to Canada's Editorial Records on this split EP with label bosses Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee, with a little remix justice from Thatmanmonkz thrown in. The latter's rub of 'Shades Of Blue', with its Gil Scott-Heron 'H20gate' vocal, would sit just as happily in our deep house section, EW&DDD's 'Cantina' is a fat-assed slab of slo-mo, flute-sprinkled funk (and the pick of the EP for this reviewer), while there's - unsurprisingly - a Latin funk feel to Hotmood's two contributions. Contemporary funk/disco at its least cheesy, and hence most satisfying!

Review: Editorial are here once again to serve up some of that sweet disco goodness with their 4 track release, Body Music. 'Slo Fusion' combines jazz-funk and boogie influences, then tops the lot with a Stingily-esque falsetto vocal, 'Aruban Nights' is a laidback n' lounge-y sunshine groove, 'Summer Love' is a sultry, sexy female-vocalled affair with more of a late 70s feel, while completing the package is 'Spirit Power', which is more uptempo and nudges closer to nu-jazz/bruk beat territory.

Review: As the title suggests, this five-tracker from the previously re-edit-happy Editorial imprint showcases slo-mo disco/house crossover cuts from a selection of mostly little-known producers (the fast-rising Matthew Kyle aside). For those who've been digging the superb releases of labels like Sleazy Beats, Wolf Music and Instruments Of Rapture, Slo-Motion Potion comes highly recommended. It's largely impressive stuff, with DJ Butcher's epic "Shake Your Body", Kyle's deliciously sensual "Off My Mind" and 78 Edits' heady opener "Come On Baby" standing out. That said, the whole package is well worth a listen.

There are five new cuts to get to grips with here - Matt Hughes's luxurious tight-funk bass anthem "Solar Boogie", the lazy, lapping ocean beach disco of "Any Damn Time" by Danny Deluxe and the chuggin locomotive rhythms of I Gemin's "How Could It". Elsewhere Jay Airiness brings some Italo-space disco to the table with "Sunshine Grooves and "Public Transit" is slick cocktail-house at its finest.

Review: The last installment of Editorial's 'Waxed' series seems like quite a while ago, but now part six is here and it's worth the wait. The mo-mo grooves of the previous edition have been replaced by a more euphoric boogie vibe. "Power Of Funk" features catchy brass work, seriously elastic bass and a super anthemic chorus. Elsewhere we also get restrained electro-boogie "Lose Control" and a meandering '70s boudoir grind called "Soft Landing". However it's the sublime glistening loops of "Lucy Called" that's got us truly spellbound.

Review: Matt Hughes is no stranger to Editorial, having previously contributed cuts to a number of the label's hugely popular multi-artist edit EPs. This, though, is his first solo salvo for the long-running rework imprint. He begins by turning a breezy, laidback and jazzy disco cut into a fine mid-tempo house head-nodder ("Looper Love"), before giving his interpretation of a slap-bass heavy party workout on the horn-sporting goodness of "Shufflin". You'll find more killer bass guitar and Nile Rodgers style riffs on the jazzy and groovy "Slow Tape", while "Supermarket Music" is a fizzing, P-funk-flecked revision of a jazz-funk/boogie cut that should get all the jazz dancers throwing shapes faster than you can say "Herbie Hancock ate my hamster".

Review: There's something admirable about the no-nonsense approach of the Editorial camp. While steeped in a deep love of the disco sound and the genre's deep history, the edits and reworks they release are first and foremost tried-and-tested dancefloor bumpers. The four cuts here are a great case in point. Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee's "Do It One More Time" is a hustlin', low-slung treat (recasting Harvey Mason's "Groovin You" as a sweaty chugger), while Rabo & Snob's "Camel Filter" romps along on a formidable disco-funk flex. The biggest surprise, though is Vinyladdicted's "Alright", a rush-inducing chunk of Balearic disco.

Review: Having previously danced the night away, the extended musical family behind the Editorial imprint sit down together for a nice spot of Sunday Brunch. In practice, that means a slightly deeper, groovier flex than some previous outings. There's plenty to enjoy, though, from the low-slung mutant nu-disco of JKriv's "Something Special" and the tumbling goodness of Sonicvibe's "Wet Level" (based on Rick James' "Cold Blooded"), to the original boogie sweetness of DJ Butcher's "All My Dub" (a much-needed tweak of Major Harris's long-forgotten "All My Life"). Of course, there are a couple of peaktime stompers, with Feza's Bohannon-ish "Feel Like" standing out.

Review: Nu disco re-edit label Editorial seem to be continuing on their recent deep slo-mo direction. Their fifth label comp/EP sees them in fine fettle, with Sellouts delivering the deep n loopy "Satisfy" (a deceptively powerful dancefloor builder), Deep&Disco's "Otis Held Tight" is a beautifully sparse yet soulful outing, Manuel Shagun's "So Good" provides an amazing glammy disco stomp, riddled with samples and all the better for it, while the party winds up with the cruising blue sky funk of The Noodleman's "3rd Time".

Review: The Editorial re-edit label have a deep sense of purpose and that is to hunt down as many top notch spliced and diced classics and release them quick smart. With over 20 releases in just a few years, they must be pretty good at their job. DJ Steef begins proceedings with the slow and loungey "Rising South Coast", before the temperature rises with the guitar-driven and string-laden funk of DJ Moar's 'Funky French' really starts the party. Things get slow and saucy again though, on Hotbox's "Can't Get Enough" before we get in a sublime disco-house spin with Thomass Jackson's "Luv Doctor". Things end in an upbeat fashion with "Music Is Love" an early 70s slow funk anthem re-tweaked by Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee.

Those with a passion for the dubbed-out, slo-mo end of the contemporary re-edit scene will enjoy 78 Edits' typically hypnotic "Slick" and DJ Raw Sugar's charmer "Barry Me Softly" (yep, the Walrus of Love gets a tweak). If you like your grooves a little more uptempo, you'll devour Disco Tech's delightful "Tight Money" - an unlikely anthem in waiting, we reckon - and Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee's dubby disco-funk groover "Movin".
