Broken Box
Broken Box - (6:00) 140 BPM
KCN - (5:29) 140 BPM Hot
Review: Straight from the dubstep hotbed that is Kilwinning, Scotland - don't believe everything you read - Ibenji dusts off the chimes for this latest two-tracker on the Eight: FX imprint. With an eerie spattering of chimes in the intro, Broken Box forcefully unleashes a selection of chopped up start/stop sounds and thoughtful edits amongst a wall of bass. With the chimes put to work again on the flip-side, KCN is a menacing banger with more industrial machine noises, choppy vocal snippets, jungly breakbeats, and wobbly LFO snyc'd sub bass than you could shake a stick at.

Drops
Drops - (3:30) 140 BPM Hot
Review: Milan based Italian producer Aron Araghi, aka Aquadrop, really captured our imagination with his stunning Aurora Borealis LP last year. Now his most recent single "Drops" has been picked up by Mistajam on his Radio 1Xtra show, and no wonder; Aquadrop embodies the sound of now but gives it a fresh, exotic twist. Expect chopped up, reverberating vocals, gorgeous 80s synths, warbling SFX and a layered soundscape. Perfectly articulated globular beats sit against woodblock tones, popping and perforating the otherwise hazy atmosphere. Essential.

Dots
Dots - (3:26) 140 BPM Hot
Played by: Aquadrop
Review: An utterly raucous cut here from Aron Airaghi aka Aquadrop in the shape of "Dots". The Italian producer has a long musical history: a skilled piano and flute player, he formed a jazz-funk group in 2001, and currently works as a sound designer for Good 50X70, an international design exhibition. On this single for Eight:FX he effortlessly combines plaintive female vox, heavy piano stabs, pitter-patter beats and omnipresent bleep-ridden melodies, with some nice subtle builds and drops. Essential and highly recommended.

Life
Life - (7:29) 140 BPM Hot
Nebula - (5:25) 144 BPM
Life (Loz Contreras remix) - (4:48)
Review: A fresh and uplifting offering from Mancunian talent Kotez on the ever-promising Eight:FX imprint. Having cut his teeth on progressive house and techno, elements from these genres seep into his dubstep output organically. "Life", for example, builds gradually from a gentle murmuring intro, full of weighty snappy snares and melancholy atmospherics, into a charming ditty full of quirkiness and melody. "Nebula" is a pumping, euphoric cut full of progressions and twinkling SFX. Completing the package is Leeds based Loz Contreras' remix of "Life", which is all hazy synth sweeps and pounding breakbeats, taking it up to a D&B tempo with huge effect.
