Review: Payne may not be breaking too many rules, but on Dirty Birds he proves that he knows how to make expertly crafted and imaginative DJ tools. "Dirty Birds Fly" sees Payne bring some more breadth to his sound with insistent chords and a subtle sample of Nina Simone added to the mix. "Choose One" also sees him provide some surprises, including a series of subsonic blips and a reggae vocal. However, first prize goes to remixer London Electric Orchestra for their take on "Choose One". Over garage beats, the original reggae vocal sample is used to its fullest potential, turning into a hypnotic narrative that lends the arrangement a plaintive edge.
