Review: Originally released on Back To Basics in the mid-90s, The Truth has lost none of its appeal. If anything, this reissue should introduce Eddie Fowlkes' pioneering sound to a new generation. "CBR" sees him drop a wiry techno groove, populated by hypnotic analogue tones. "Planet Claire" goes deeper, with Fowlkes conjuring up dreamy, glistening synths that unfold over a galloping rhythm. But it's the Detroit producer's focus on house that impresses most here. The title track is a sweat-inducing workout that resounds to an engaging male-female vocal interaction. "Freestyle" is in a similar vein, with Fowlkes weaving in a hypnotic organ riff over snappy drums. Nearly 30 years on, it still sounds fresh.
