Review: After a series of EPs, Christian AB drops his debut album on Ryan Elliot's Faith Beat. It's a diverse affair that draws on a range of house and techno influences. "Outta Phase" resounds to swirling synths and gurgling acid lines, striking an effortless balance between melodies and a tripped-out aesthetic. A sense of depth is pervasive on "Nu Life" and "Fade Away", but in both instances the UK producer deploys house rhythms and shuffling drums as the backdrop for soaring strings and ponderous vocals. The album also contains more intense iterations of the techno sound, audible on the steely rhythm of "Bluescreen" and the tracky "Mrs Sync". However, as the emotive "Coded Whispers" demonstrates, Christian AB impresses most when he voyages to the depths of techno.

WTF Is Happening! - (6:14) 125 BPM
Naw Bro What's Happening - (5:10) 126 BPM
Review: Detroit techno duo Prosthetic Hands, comprised of Joshua Harrison and Keith Kemp, are set to release their latest EP titled 'The Walk In The Dark' on Ryan Elliott's label Faith Beat. The duo's approach to production involves using a wide array of hardware and credit their unique sound to playing polyrhythms live and taking risks, capturing a punk energy that sets them apart from tired genre tropes. Whether it's the hypnotising title track, the deep down and dirty stomp of "WTF Is Happening!" or the greyscale redux of "Naw Bro What's Happening" - the duo brings chaos, organization and precision to their creative process.

The No Illusions EP

Elixir - (4:54) 128 BPM Hot
Ideas & Concepts (DJ Qu remix) - (4:52) 126 BPM
Neutral Zone - (6:07) 129 BPM
Review: Following releases from Marcel Dettmann and label owner Ryan Elliott, the fifth Faith Beat outing comes from underground DJ/producer Evan Baggs. Inspired by the raw UK tech-house sound of the late 90s / early 00s, this release kicks off with the wiry, pacy rhythm and insistent bleeps of "Ideas & Concepts", with Baggs weaving a trippy vocal over the arrangement. In contrast, "Elixir" is deeper, but still retains a tripped-out edge thanks to the use of swirling synths and a pulsating bass. "Neutral Zone" sees Baggs mine a more linear, club-friendly path as hypnotic pulses unravel over steely drums. The release also features a busy, broken beat version of "Ideas & Concepts" from DJ Qu.

The State Of Art EP
State Of Art (original mix) - (4:39) 130 BPM
Juper - (4:27) 130 BPM Hot
State Of Art (Ryan Elliott dub) - (4:00) 133 BPM
Meramo - (4:34) 131 BPM
Music Is Playing - (4:28) 130 BPM
Review: The fourth release on Faith Beat reveals a different side to Marcel Dettmann. Gone is the Berghain resident's gritty warehouse sound, replaced by a deeper, more considered approach. While "Music Is Playing" centres on a jittery rhythm, it features dramatic stabs and frenetic percussion, drawing on early Detroit techno for inspiration. "Meramo" leans towards the musical US house sound of Balance and Prescription, supported by a robust groove, while on "Juper", Dettmann explores this sound further, as skipping drums provide the basis for jazzy melodies. The title track is the only instance where he veers into a darker direction, but in this instance it's moody bass tones rather than Dettmann's signature concrete kicks that set the tone.

Knowz - (6:18) 125 BPM
IMMI - (5:40) 126 BPM
Mind - (5:59) 125 BPM
Review: It's been a long time between releases for Chicago native Bruce Ivery (Stilove4music/Dopeness Galore/Street Edits), who returns from a seven year hiatus to present four 'stripped back blinders' on Midwest veteran Ryan Elliott's imprint. From the heads down stomp of "Them", to the mesmerising deepness of second track "Knoez" or the hypnotic and reduced afterhours vibe of the introspective "Mind" - Faith Beat continues to bring the proper underground quality.
