Review: Fokuz Recordings consistently release some of the best compilation albums around. Their pool of artists is so diverse and so top quality that an assortment of their work is always going to be special, especially when they bring in outside talent like Break and Zero T. Collaborations 2 is what is says on the tin: remixes and other collaborative projects and blimey, it's good stuff. Joakuim's '8am Roller' is the perfect example, a deft piece of piano-based smoothness that rolls out to your heart's content with sultry results, an instant classic of liquid-sized proportions. The Break remix is a welcome addition, as is the steppy yet soulful Zero T remix of Ben Carlos. Another very, very good selection of cuts from the always sublime Fokuz crew.

Review: It would be fair to say that Macc and Loz Contreras have made something a splash in the D&B scene since first joining forces back in 2013. It's also true that few contemporary producers are capable of delivering such musically rich, soul-flecked liquid funk. Their trademark sound - rolling breaks, sparkling electronic, carefully selected samples and melodies aplenty - is much in evidence throughout this fine debut album, which gathers together both previously released singles and previously unheard fare. Highlights come thick and fast, from the disco-sampling dancefloor bliss of "Better World" and the sun-soaked brilliance of bass-heavy carnival roller "Wanna Be Your Lover", to the sub-heavy assault that is "Switch". A handful of remixes from other artists - including liquid soul mate S.P.Y - complete a quality package.

Review: Most labels celebrate their 50th or 100th release but Fokuz have never done things by convention, which is what's made them such a unique success story in drum & bass for 17 years. Here we find them celebrating their 80th release (and neatly referencing the work of Quentin Tarantino) with their biggest project to date that stretches two albums, over 30 tracks and some of the biggest names in D&B: Break, Calibre, Technimatic, BCee, Need For Mirrors, the list goes on. Review: Macca & Melinki are two artists who've really taken off in recent years, the former with his work with Loz Contreras on labels like Shogun, the latter with his own Four Corners imprint and general badassery. Dark Soul is on Fokuz and it's properly sick, with four harsher cuts that show how both of these producers get down. 'Ok' just rolls and rolls, a fluid sense of progression inching in from the constant switch ups and differing bass pulses that form around its solid percussive performance. 'Music is Life' is the heaviest of the bunch, reminding us of Gerra & Stone's 'Arashi' with its choppy bassline and energetic feel. Definitely check this one out.

Review: Madcap is back, back again and he's landing on Fokuz for a fearsome, junglist EP that smacks of the old school but appeals to the new. We especially like the sense of cleanness in the arrangement, all the elements are disparate but synergistic and there's a real feel of raw vibrancy combined with modernist programming and spot-on syncopation. 'Pressure' is our favourite, with an almost hypnotic vocal sample that pulsates, ebbs and flows throughout the tune with wicked effect. The drums are in point, the basses equally so. Wicked stuff from the Fokuz crew.

Review: Command Strange's next release comes to us via the Fokuz imprint with two solid tracks plus a further two digital exclusives - you just can't say no to this! First up is the title track "Rock Steady" with its raw, metallic sounds, pattering drums and quirky SFX. Next is "Open Your Eyes" which is underpinned by booming bass and dominated by chiming beats and echoing snippets of female vocal. "Sugar", the first of the two digital exclusives, is a deep and meditative cut with swirling synth work, whilst "All That Heaven Allows" is all choral elements with booming atmospheric sweeps.

Review: Flowrian presents a smashing album on Fokuz; an expansive collection of tracks, this one is bound to impress. With its light, delicate rhythms and intricate percussion, underpinned by gliding melodies and sumptuous vocal elements, there's plenty for the liquid fans to savour here. Kicking off with "Mark Foam" with its gentle, rippling sounds, we are taken through such moments as "The Suns Shadow" with its deep, rhythmic pulse, and the blissed out psychedelia of "Road To Atlantis". Ever reflective, cuts such as "Casandra" draw out the more contemplative side of Flowrian with its melancholy trumpets and drifting malaise. This is well worth checking out if you like more gentle, liquid D&B with plenty of soul and sultriness.

Review: Command Strange brings us the epic Episode 91 on Fokuz. A nine-track album of pure quality, this one kicks off with the sumptuous "Miracles" - a heavy, purring bassline underpins crisp, crunching drums and a trance-like synthline. He gets experimental and deep in cuts like "Sweet Nightmare" and the ethereal counterpart "Dreams". Tracks like "Song For You" are exercises in unrestrained yearning, with delicate beats, repressed vocal and a sense of pained beauty. Liquid loveliness comes courtesy of "Days Are Cold" and concluding, piano-chiming finale "Give It To Me". Utterly sublime from start to finish.

Review: One of Fokuz's many success stories, Macca returns from his SGN adventures to the Dutch imprint with four evergreen work-outs. "Artifact", a sinewy stepper laced with an exquisite alien squirming b-line, sets the tone as "Intelligence" follows with a Critical-like thump-and grind wriggle and "What" shocks-out with a 1.21giggawatt high voltage bassline and some cracking rim shots. If that's not enough, he's also VIP'd the dickens out of last year's "Switch". Tunnelling business.

Review: Come on, were you expecting anything less than sheer beauty from these guys? A collection of shimmering, hazy-toned tunes set to ready even the most pessimistic soul for a summer of gorgeous sun and good times, it's really something special. "Always Yours" shines on over glistening harmonies and crystal clear percussion, moving into funkier territory as "Wanna BE Your Lover" picks up a bassline to die for. "Something Special" continues that jazzy feel as guitar and strings collide to create a real soulful D&B gem. Finally, "One Touch" crashes back to present day with a boom, pushing crisp, clean production and melancholy melodies.

Review: An immaculate lesson in deepness from Fokuz mainstay Intelligent Manners: across four tracks the Russian talent excels in every direction. Opener "Numb" rolls out with a warm filtered pads that warp and weave with real subtlety, "Love Is Love" is all about the dark art of the sample and comes across like an early High Contrast cut, sultry vocal stepper "Everyday Is The Same" is the soundtrack to your next steamy session while the title track tracks a Rose Royce classic and flips the vibe entirely.

Review: More unconditional love from Fokuz's anonymous editor Unknown Artist. As always, expect a stunning slew of popular versions that will pop in any mix. Here, as the title hints, one of Bob James's most iconic standards gets celebrated in a somewhat circular way. If you know, you know. And if you don't, press play and you definitely will. This will trigger some amazing responses wherever and whenever you play it. Elsewhere India.Arie and Roy Ayers get highly respectable treatment while we climax with a trip to the Latin quarter. Quite possibly one of Unknown Artist's best editions yet.

Review: Fokuz specialize in lush, liquid beats and so it's to be expected that Fokuz & Friends Vol 3 will be nothing less than a culmination of this. Right you are, as we are plunged into the Fokuz utopia straight away courtesy of a sumptuous cut from the Contract Killers called "The Life Moments"; this is swiftly followed up by a jazzy little number from Alix Perez & Redeyes ("Watching U"), plus a killer from Command Strange & Intelligent Manners - "Talking About Love" - which is all subdued atmospherics and pattering beats. Elsewhere across this excellent selection are some treats from Furi Anga, Silent Dust and Blue Motion.

Review: One of the most iconic and prolific labels in the D&B scene, Fokuz Recordings manage to simultaneously show off the best in the game whilst supporting new talent and the results are fantastic. This album - a recap of 2018 - exemplifies their approach. It's full of big names and bigger tracks, including S.P.Y's remix of 'Always Yours' by Macca & Loz Contreras, Artificial Intelligence's remix of 'String City' by Lenzman and Calibre's remix of 'Forward Thinking' by Satl. Whilst these are obviously great, the bigger story lies in the lesser-known participants and their ability to pull at your heartstrings. DJ Ransome, Edlan, Soligen amongst others all come seriously correct on this LP, turning it into a seriously good release.

Review: The Vanguard Project, not content with their superb album earlier this year, are back on Fokuz with jovial, upbeat expression of 174 music that is a breath of fresh air from our scene's more common gestures to the ghoulish. The title track sets the tone, with warm brass samples setting a trajectory of funk and soul right from the outset. Even the darker pallette of 'Mode 16' still feels playful in its low frequency pressure and it's a combination pulled off with considerable finesse across the whole five-tracker - excellent work.

Review: The mysterious Unknown Artist returns to Fokuz with another fat round-up of re-rubs and big sample-slapping D&B. Good time D&B for party heads, and sculpted well enough for the heads to stroke their beards or give a wry grin, once again we're treated to a whole load of familiar vocals and hooks laced carefully in, around and over the breaks. Highlights include the Darondo flexing 'Didn't I' (which some may remember from Breaking Bad), the seminal rave classic 'Need Your Loving' and the Badu to the bone 'On & On' but each cut is guarantee to get the butts wriggling.
