Review: St.Etienne's Hatelate is quickly extending France's sublime house tradition, taking influence from greats such as Motorbass, I:Cube and D'Julz. His second EP drops on Gourmand Music Recordings, a prolific label dealing specifically in house music, in the form of a three-tracker backed by two remixes. "Ice Cream" is a stepping tech-house roller with hollow melodies and subtle disco nuances, deconstructed and jacked-up by JR From Dallas. "Chocolate" is deeper, jazzier and full of low-ends, followed by Nouskynousk's loose and clap-heavy reinterpretation. "Cheese Cake" ties things off with metallic percussion stabs, bumpy kicks and more of Hatelate's signature house swing. Top.
