Review: Some 10 years on from the release of their fine debut album, Hot Damn, the Haggis Horns return with their fourth full-length. The much-loved outfit's line-up has changed a lot over the years, but their ability to craft punchy, sun-kissed fusions of funk, soul and disco remains in tact. This time round, you'll find a wealth of vocal tracks featuring regular live vocalists John McCallum and Lucinda Slim, as well as a couple of cuts boasting the on-point UK rap of MC-turned-actor Doc Brown (see the Jurassic 5 and Breakestra style goodness of "Take it Back" and lilting brilliance of the more considered "What's It All About?"). Elsewhere, the expansive outfit joins the dots between Herbie Hancock and Sly Stone on "All Fuzzed Up" and does a superb impression of Icognito on "Gonna Be Alright".

Review: Over the years, The Haggis Horns have gone through many iterations and deviations, but the current line-up is made up of: Malcolm Strachan (trumpet), Atholl Ransome (tenor saxophone, flute), Rob Mitchell (alto saxophone, baritone saxophone), Ben Barker (guitar), Kenny Higgins (bass), Erroll Rollins (drums), George Cooper (keyboards) and, last but not least, Lucinda Slim on vocals. This new EP for their own Haggis imprint, World Gone Crazy, is another one of their funky soul ballads, wrapped up in their modern take on the style - this is with the help of a masterful backing band, we should stress! Remixes are in abundance, too, with Lack Of Afro, Smoove and Sam Redmore all going for the sleeker edit formats.

Review: Scottish ensemble The Haggis Horns have blazed a trail in the music biz since 1999, playing for the likes of Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, Martha Reeves, Jamiroquai and John Legend. They also regularly performed their own sensational gigs and released records too. Now, after a slight hiatus, they're back with a third long player, "What Comes To Mind" on their own Haggis record label. Boasting ten tracks that pay homage to their 70s heroes (Kool & The Gang, Donald Byrd, Earth Wind & Fire) and featuring appearances by John McCallum, Lucinda Slim and John Turrell, it's a welcome return indeed.
