Review: Formerly Halo Cyan Records, Halocyan was rebranded and renamed in 2014. It is a sublabel of Phthalo, launched by LA musician Dimitri Fergadis. It's had some great artists appear recently in the form of Paul Woolford, Extrawelt and of course the legendary Dave Angel - who presented the last two releases as part of the Incoming series. Next up is Bristol's Borai, who has had releases on top local labels like BRSTL and Happy Skull in addition to internationals Tasteful Nudes and Retrofit. Dark Of The Sun features a variety of moods that are all expertly executed for whatever the occasion. From the evocative opening track "On The Horizon" which has a Detroit hi-tech soul type of vibe which we really enjoyed. The title track is more straight ahead with its Berlin style warehouse stomp, complimented by suspense filled dub chords, pounding drums and hypnotic pads. Finally "Wetware" takes it down a notch or two on this retro-flavoured deep tech house number - which is perfect to play just before the lights come on.

Review: German minimal electro merchants Extrawelt return, presenting their newest offering on Los Angeles imprint Halocyan who have offered up great releases recently by Dave Angel and Hackman. "Breaking Bricks" has all the dark, dystopian and grinding aesthetics that have been the duo's trademark since the mid noughties, later contrasted by sublime melodies and euphoric pads and strings. "Splendid Nausea" is a more straight ahead affair; an adrenalised four to the floor groove with a tightly programmed rhythm and epic bassline modulations. Finally, German nu-gaze hero Ulrich Schnauss turns in a typically beautiful and ethereal viewpoint of the aforementioned "Breaking Bricks".

Review: Hackman began making fierce dubby garage cuts only to progress to housier labels like Future Boogie Recordings and 20:20 Vision. Here he unveils three new jams with hints of his earlier vibes. "Semibreves" begins the EP with a fruity fusion of tropical shuffles and deep house moods, which in turn gets fuzzed out into a spacey carnival jam by Kink. "Grass Green" features scattershot rhythms and a smidgeon of bass wobble and gets stripped down to a stark techno growler by Timo Maas. Finally "Last Of The Summer Malign" closes with a trippy island sounds reminiscent of Yes Wizard.
