Review: Jak Stratford's 'HARD25' marks an electrifying addition to the Hardline Sounds catalogue, with this latest release pushing the boundaries of bass and club music to their maximum. Featuring four rave-ready pumpers, we begin with the highly powered drum rhythms and subby sweeps of 'El Groove', followed by 'Let It Roll' with it's super skippy percussion and pulsating bassline below. We then jump into the nostalgia-inducing chord skips and recognisable vocal slices of 'Hold On, Hold On', before 'Club Ferb' sees us jump into the heart of club land with a real fist pumper to see us over the line.
Review: At Hardline Sounds, MERKER's 'HARDLINE05' is set to be a defining moment, exploring four heavy hitting garage originals that send us spiralling across the dancefloor spectrum. We open up with the bouncy rhythms and hard-hitting bass notation of 'Check 1', a real pulser that sets the pace nicely, with the Vocal Jam mix of 'Alright Now' adding some vibrant new melodics to the table. Another alternative working next as the Massive Mix of 'Na Na' takes us up another gear, fusing warbling subs with skippy rhythms across the board, closing off the bulging LFO sweeps of 'Second Choice' for a killer closer.
Review: Highrise unleashes a sonic assault with 'HARD23' on Hardline Sounds, a four-track EP designed to elevate the dancefloor experience to a whole new level. The opener, 'Make Your Move', sets the tone with its punchy kicks and infectious energy, pulling listeners into a euphoric state. 'U Used 2' follows, delivering a blend of vintage samples and modern basslines that creates a nostalgic yet fresh vibe. Before 'Like This', embraces a speedier, more intense approach with intricate rhythms and bubbling vocal samples. Closing the EP is 'Phase1', a more acidic approach that fuses heavy bass notation and wandering beats, ensuring the energy remains high until the very end.
Review: For this latest release on Hardline Sounds, we're treated to a versatile UK garage compilation leaning heavily into intense basslines and rhythmic intricacies from start to finish. Oldboy kicks off with 'Grab Di Mic', a sub-heavy track filled with rolling energy, followed by Skeptic's 'Get Wild' which ups the intensity dramatically, with PRESTi's 'Turbo' cranking up the tempo with slick, drum-heavy production. Tracks like OCCUPA's 'Dope Da Drop' and Joe Koshin's 'The Bluejay' then carry forward the high-energy, bass-driven atmosphere, giving the release a fiery overall feel and highlighting some of the most dynamic bass music we've seen this year.
Review: Hardline Sounds have delivered a classic selection of heavyweight garage flavour with this latest collection, welcoming in 8 highly volatile creations that are sure to knock the block off of any raver. Opening up with hard hitting chord & bass pulses of Auramatic's 'Talk 2 The Deejay', with the more underground acidic sub rolls of Prozak's 'Phenomenon' and Longeez's more techno-influenced 'Overthinking' to follow. DJ Cosworth then unleashes a sweeping heater in 'Bodyrox', with Dylan Fogarty's high intensity party starter in 'Saturn' and CULT's hardcore influenced squelcher in 'Big 909 Time' both providing vibrant next steps. To close, we explore two additional sizzlers, in the old school influenced rhythmic switches found in Vibes Kartel's 4x4 mix of 'Rhythm Mi Ride', next to the serious dancefloor energy of 'Rare Bargain Bin White Label Type Beat', a mouthful of a title from Main Phase, that rounds this wicked collection off in style.
Review: Mattik & DL are back in business for this fiery new display of breakbeat flavour, combining elements of breaks and 2-step to give us a top quality new collection that is sure to have any dancefloor rolling. We open up with the pair in combination, as the steadily bopping drum slithers and bumping moogs of 'Ready Alright' combine nicely with the warbling bass grooves of 'Quality Sound' to give us a top quality starter pairing. Next up, the duo roll out on solo duty, with DL firstly delivering a serious 4x4 roller in 'No1 Station', taking UKG back to the essence, before Mattik unloads a box of sub-heavy weaponry on the even more explosive sounds of 'The Warning'. Very tidy stuff
Review: Yas Reven is the latest artist to drop an EP on the prolific Hardline Sounds. Like previous releases, HARD20 fuses sounds and styles while keeping the focus on the bass-garage-break beat nexus. "WHoO-Oo!" features repetitive, chopped up vocals over staccato drums and a clanging bass. It makes for an alluring, hypnotic track. "Sensible Shoes" is less esoteric. Led by a frazzled low end, its cavernous drops and skipping beats deliver a powerful DJ tool. "Little Breaker" sees another shift in style, with Reven conjuring up dreamy, atmospheric textures over hyperactive break beats. Dylan Fogarty's driving, club-primed remix of "WhoO-Oo!" completes this impressive release.
Review: Techno duo Dual Monitor drop a deadly four-tracker for Hardline. Inspired as much by dub and UK bass as club techno, HARD19 takes the listener on a smoke-filled trip - without losing sight of the dance floor. "Level Up" resounds to rolling, dubbed out drums and mystical vocals, while they up the pace on "Left/Right". Based on a snaking groove and featuring indistinct MCing, it comes across as a blurry, modern take on a Leftfield club cut."Quattros Oxide" continues in this frenetic mode, albeit with a more stripped rhythm punctuated by a series of breakdowns. Changing tact again, they drop "Switch It", a frenetic, drum'n'bass workout.
Review: Up next on Hardline is Palermo with a release that transcends styles. "Bayer Session" sets the tone for the EP. Based on rolling breaks, it features a booming bass that wouldn't sound out of place on an early 00s speed garage record. In contrast, "Cherry Cola" sees Palermo go deeper. Uplifting chords are fused with a percussive rhythm and tribal drums, making for melodic but club-friendly techno. On "Panamera", the focus shifts again. This time, skipping drums and a forceful low end provide the basis for a track that sounds like a halfway house between deep techno and speed garage. Keeping the listener guessing until the end, Palermo drops the Reese bass and nickel plated hi hats of "Yuropa".
Review: It's always an exciting thing to see a new Hardline Sounds drop hit the shelves, and it's safe to say that this latest epic from Fonzo doesn't disappoint as we take in four spicy rollers. First up, a classic vocal rework as 'Boy Don't Waste My Time', gives us a steadily grooving rumbler, focussing on smokey subs and heavily syncopated 2-step rhythms, followed by ANSZA's arrival on the shivering LFO's and unpredictable breaks of 'Reality'. From here, 'How We Feelin' dives into a stomping collection of warbling sub structures and and choppy sub slides, with the writhing kick pulses and scintillating sub pressures of 'Big Devil Energy' then closing us off in style.
Review: What an awesome collection this is from the Hardline Sounds crew, who continue to wade their way through the rivers UKG with this exciting four track drop from the ever-ready Silva Bumpa. First up, 'Next To Me' unloads a floaty combination of steadily bubbling melodies and fluttering drum stutters, glued together with eerie vocal sweeps, with 'BWU' then providing a quicker, more organ-driven design in rapid succession. From here, 'Test' takes the sound back to its roots with a stripped back 4x4 drumline, a catchy vocal overlay and potent LFO patterns to match, with the more emotive harmonies of 'Get 2 Know' then closing the EP off with a blissful landing. Very tasty indeed!
Review: With garage now being well and truly back to the heart of everything UK music wise, labels such as Hardline are seeing a huge resurgence, with this latest four track compilation showcasing a real old school feel. We being with 'Da Elusive Ganjaman' delivering a steadily sweeping whomper in 'Da Return', followed by both the catchy vocal hooks and pulsating subs of Wodda's 'Don't Mind Me Original', and of course Main Phase's return with the wobbling bassline action of 'Childist'. Finally Silva Bumper unloads a highly refreshing take on 2-step with 'Body Right', a vocal-driven dripper, rounding off this collection with a real sense of style.
