Review: Every blacksmith needs a fire so it's no surprise that Metal Work has released 'Firestarter'. Obviously nodding at the iconic energy and ideology of the late great Keith Flint, the track sets the tone and pace for this massive EP. Six tracks heavy, each cut his in its own unique way and showcases a different side to the Gradient co-boss. 'Get Ready' is laced with all kinds of futuristic glitches, 'Bass Kick' is a classic mid-2000s Playaz or Radius style tear-up, 'Smash' is a pounding piece of Belgium inspired tearage, 'Hold It Down' is pure insanity while 'What It's Like' closes the EP with a powerful synth-twisting throw down. Fire in the hole!

High R8 Remixes
Metal Work - "Thinking" (Filthy Habits remix) - (4:28) 175 BPM
Filthy Habits & Jeopardize - "Bloodshed" (Nu Elementz remix) - (4:23) 175 BPM
AMPLIFY - "Complete" (Metal Work remix) - (4:23) 175 BPM
Metal Work - "No More Games" (Master Error remix) - (4:23) 175 BPM Hot
Review: Hey m8 come and ingrati8 yourself with these power pl8s. R8 have kindly gener8ted a series of brand new remixes and we'd be wise to decor8 our collections with them. Filthy Habits set a stern mand8 with their heavyweight remix of Metal Work's 'Thinking' before Nu Elementz go on to remonstr8 their levels with the swaggering take on 'Bloodshed'. Deeper again Metal Work continues to gravit8 towards the grottiest end of the spectrum with the obliter8ing take on Amplify's 'Complete' before Master Error steps up to demonstr8 his skills on 'No More Games'. Consumm8 badboys.

Searching - (4:30) 175 BPM
Deep Down - (4:04) 174 BPM
Take It Slow - (4:05) 175 BPM
Soul Seeker - (5:12) 175 BPM
Review: Everyone's favourite banger blacksmith, Yung Metal Work gets his tools out on High R8 Digital and gives us all our a hooves a shoeing. The tension and heat is evident from the off as 'Wriggle' gets freaky with a rhythmic vocal jitter and some savage high-freq bass saws. It's backed by plenty more slappage: 'Searching' takes a euphoric vocal and flips it into a futuristic fire-up, 'Deep Down' takes us down a super twisted bassline rabbit hole while 'Take It Slow' flips between emotional and twisted at a flip of a switch. Finally 'Soul Seeker' finishes up the EP with a series of laser-blazing textures and an unrelenting energy. Grizzly!

Gunna Get Them - (4:05) 175 BPM
Review: Dropping a massive six track EP just weeks after his awesome debut album? Now you know why he's called Metal Work... He is an actual machine! And what a funky, cantankerous working piece of metal he is, too... 'Basement' will lock you up and feed you scraps for months with its vicious sense of tension and the rest of the EP is just as heavyweight. Highlights include the pure grot of 'Go' (think early 2010s style, but with contemporary production muscle), the pure funk and strange wooziness of 'Don't Care' and the cool, twisted harmonics of 'Gunna Get Them'. Gotta get this.

The Sky - (4:05) 175 BPM
Review: His name sounds like Judas Priest Fan Of The Year 1982, or Blacksmith Of The Year 1882, but Metal Work's music sounds like it's from 2082 and it's going to slice you, your family and, most importantly, your dancefloor to pieces. Forges at the ready, 'Dragon Fire' panel beats us from the off with a big early 2000s D-Minds style bass riff. It's back by equally heavy weapons including the big brass backdrop and aggy harmonics of 'Faded', the dreamy breakdown and sheet metal bassline slaps of 'Miracle' and the breath-taking, wonky basslined gully hurricane that is 'The Sky'. Fire in the hole!

Review: High R8 Digital are a regular here on Juno and for good reason, their tendency for steadily releasing rough but powerful, whole-hearted music is strong and their small size doesn't prevent the release of top-quality stuff. This EP from Metal Work is in that exact tradition, as across five tracks he tears you limb from limb with dancefloor focused jump-up precision. 'Stronger' is the strongest on the release, with an almost neuro feel to its cracking percussion and a torn, broken back end that rips across the range with style. There is more excellent work on the fat snare of 'Join Us', and this one is not to be missed.

Losing Myself (remix) - (4:23) 175 BPM
Review: You think being on lockdown is hard? Trying a sentence in the 'Gulag' and then say something. Hard times call for hard music as the currently unstoppable Metal Work continues his 'Gulag' EP with six uncompromising grunters. 'Gulag Survivor' takes off where part one left us; working to the bone while being pummelled by rifle-like bass. Other punishments include the high voltage sizzles and grizzles of 'High Tech', the pure abrasion and trippy, warped bass grit of 'War' and the out-and-out drama of his remix of last year's nasty 'Losing Myself'. Sentence complete, now lockdown feels like Disney Land. R8ing this one m8.

Review: High R8 are keeping up their streak of releases with this grating, gully monster from Metal Work, who has had a very prolific couple of years on a whole host of different labels. The title track to this release says it all really, with a fiery injection of energy at all levels alongside an all-encompassing sense of purpose and drive that lends the track a superb quality. 'Losing Myself' steps things up a notch, with a rambunctious foghorn that bends, twists and distorts throughout the whole tune, carrying the listener with them as it goes. Overall this release is industrial and not to be messed with - top work.

Review: High R8 isn't a label we're intimately familiar with but, based on this fiery release from Metal Work, is an imprint that puts out hard-hitting music that's packed full of attitude. There's certainly no sugar in this release and 'No Sugar' confirms that, with a deliciously solid percussive line underneath a glitched-out flurry of basses and synths, all of which are packed with the type of energy we've come to expect from the jump-up scene. All of the others are in a similar vein, making this release solid all round.
