Review: The Highly Swung second instalment of the Highly Anticipated series is back and out to annihilate all corners of the bass spectrum with thirteen absolutely rocking garage monsters for the modern ear! Big, bad and proud, the imprint launches a tasty selection of artists who are carrying on the UK' fine tradition of swinging beats and bouncy basslines, with peeps like 8th Note, Anonymous People, and James Lavonz all getting their own strains of club beats through to your speakers. Sexy, sleek and seductive, these are perfect party tunes which offer moody vibes to the headz, and the romantic swing for the lovers. Nice one!
Review: Anonymous People are a collective of DJs and producers headed by Exodus and Devious. They've been releasing records of all genres over the past 35 years, plus working with some of the industry's finest artists. Names such as Lee John, Artful Dodger, Dreem Teem, Chrome & Time and Boy George to name but a few. "It's Over" was originally intended for an end of summer release, but here we have it! As the label themselves were quick to point out the track is full of soulful house vibes with bassy undertones and accompanied by the beautiful voice of June Mitchell. It gets some wicked remixes too: DubKore's "Vox mix" goes for the early noughties UK garage vibe of MJ Cole while GiLLi's "Over mix" gets back onto the vocal house vibe but going for a deeper, late night vibe than the original.
Review: You might remember producer Marvel's 2015 release Dirty Like Knickers EP. Well now he's opted for a bit of role reversal - appearing as a vocalist on Pud & Dan's new track, "Marvel Man". The vocal role suits him (luckily, as the song's named after him!) and he delivers a charismatic flow over a melodic lite-UKG backing track. Remix-wise Matt Wise, adds extra fizz thanks to some retro 90s organ bass riffs, Jade Lion brings some slinky 2-step influenced funk and B1G PR0J3CT wraps things up nicely with some slammin' speedy garage action.
