Review: French producer Hansgod outta Rennes, France, returns to Hooj Choons following his Ketosis EP in 2022, sending in some progressive, Balearic and trance-tipped house tempo numbers that hopefully bring back memories of cutaways from the legendary TV show Ibiza Uncovered. Going deep with a Ministry Of Sound Vocal in "Realisation", its synth hook is a undeniable squeezer of the heart. Pushing into tougher techno territory with "Haa Track", the EP descends into something snapping and minimal with "Opacities" that does have a small affliction of giegling sentimentalities if you can hear it. "Ritualist", then, goes slightly electro and mystical. Quality stuff. Don't sleep.

Review: The fourth instalment of Trance Trax provides a mixture of contemporary artists reshaping classic material from the Hooj Choons vault alongside new material. Fantastic Man lends some contemporary drums and atmospheric stylings to his reshape of Frontier Man's "Express It Thru The Dance". In a similar fashion, the lush melodies of HEO's take on the eternal trance classic "Dream Universe" benefits from tough kicks on Ciaran McAuley's reshape. However, this series doesn't just offer classics: On "Supanova" Jay Farina melds tribal house and evocative Spanish guitar to create a Balearic hybrid. Meanwhile, Hansgod's "Heya" offers up a modern fusion of house and trance, as soaring pads are fused with an acidic groove.

Review: Second time around for Victor Shan's Candi Staton-sporting 'One Day', which first surfaced - complete with Earth Trax and Litherland remixes - three years ago. This time round the track appears on legendary UK label Hooj Choons in reworked form, with the Frankfurter's original mix nowhere to be seen. That's not a criticism though, because the fresh reworks are undeniably impressive. The headline-grabbing revision (which comes accompanied by an edited version of the rework) comes from sometime Unknown To The Unknown contributor Third Son, who successfully re-imagines it as a super-summery slab of hands-aloft piano house perfection complete with breakbeat blasts and two spine-tingling breakdowns. LMajor provides the other revision, revelling in a piano-sporting, breakbeat-driven revision that recalls the glory days of breakbeat hardcore.

Review: It may not always be flavour of the month, but one thing is certain: trance will never disappear. In fact, as this compilation demonstrates, the sound remains in good health. Jaydee, who is best known for the iconic Plastic Dreams, delivers the robust tribal drums and swooshing filters of "Black Book". Representing the new school is Hansgod's shimmering "Altension" and Glenn Morrison's more ominous, bass-heavy "Twenty Something". Both tracks draw on influences from across the decades, including the Eye Q sound and the rumble of New Beat to create vivid new variants. In a fitting closing of the loop, Fort Romeau weighs in to rework Pete Lazonby's classic "Sacred Cycles" - the result is a mysterious dubbed out track that defies categorisation.

Review: Hans Godde is DJ and producer from France who's racked up some promising releases thus far on Magnitude, Colorized and Traum Schallplatten, but if this latest one on the mighty Hooj Choons is any indicator - he's really hit the big time now! The powerful groove elevation of "Ketosis" is aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor, receiving an impressive remix by Lisbon's Lake Haze up next that takes the tune into emotive deep house territory. A throwback to the second summer of love beneath the orbital motorway awaits you on the suitably titled "Rave Dragon" and things take a darker turn on the seething, heads-down stomp of "Dramaglides".

Review: Inhabiting a grey area where house, techno and trance collide, Vito Natoli's latest release is a dramatic affair. On the title track, dramatic chords surge and sweep over steely drums and percussion, while "Escape" sees him follow a more menacing route; this time, synths bristle with ominous intent, overlaid by a mysterious vocal sample. A similar mood is audible on "Devil In Me", where driving percussion and pounding kicks underpin dark chords, while the Italian producer rounds off the release with "Still Love You", a lean techno workout that resounds to swirling chords - making for a dramatic end to this fine EP.

Review: The legendary London-based label Hooj Choons presents three new tracks by up and coming artists, and an old classic receiving a modern reshape on Drum Signals - Vol 2. Southern Italian producer Pazy from Puglia opens proceedings with the deep, down and dirty afterhours groove of 'Trippin', while fellow countryman Akero delivers the euphoric and spiritual house journey "Festival Of People". Elsewhere, The Midland's Jay Farina serves up the Inner City influenced, NYC tribal vibe of "Parallax" and finally Jerome Robins remix of Killahurtz' "West On 27th" takes this tune from the turn of the millenium into 2022 style.

Review: With the re-arrival of breaks and hardcore onto a much more popular landscape, we are thrilled to see just how many labels and artists are unleashing drops, especially over the last few weeks. This collection from Lennie De Ice is a solid dive into where the sound currently is, opening up with the bulbous bass bounces and chiming melodic drifts of 'We Are I.E', the extended edit which lands with some serious impact. The rest of the project comes to us in the form of remixes, with Solo & Blades stepping up first for their super tidy 'Yellow Cali' mix, redesign the breaks into a much more processed design, before Borai's Brizzle Bassline mix sends the original into 4x4 realm, juiced with garage flavour. Finally, Filter Dread unleashes his aquatic overhaul, rounding off the project with another tidy design.
