Muscle Memory
Recovered Artefacts (LMajor remix) - (4:07) 140 BPM
Review: Whenever the Hooversound tag appears in the store, we know that realistically we are in for somewhat of a treat as they never seem to miss. This time around, Drumskull arrives in typically brisk fashion, giving us a powerful opening project for 2023. We begin with a dip into the euphoric arpeggio action and clunking breaksy grooves of 'Muscle Memory' a vibrant roller, stuffed to the brim with stuttering drum shakes. The party continues to roll as 'Recovered Artefacts' ups the pace with a much more hardcore influenced set of drum designs, giving us a thunderous display that will cause quite a large amount of damage across many a dancefloor. The vibe then shifts dramatically as Lone arrives for the project's first remix, giving 'Muscle Memory' a military-esc switch up, combining shimmering metallic reverses with jungle-like drums. Finally, 'LMajor' gives us a complete overhaul of 'Recovered Artefacts', sending us down a grimey avenue with a rave-infused 140 rethink. Very tasty stuff!

A Love So True
More Than I Could - (5:08) 140 BPM
Review: We are gathered here today to celebrate the holy matrimony of our souls with the dancefloor. United by a 'Love So True' for reaching for the lasers, leaping around like a fool and grinning like a cat who hasn't just got the cream but owns an entire cream conglomerate... We shall never be parted. Certainly not as long as Prayer continues to make music like this. Stunning, undiluted rave sounds with all the twinkles and rushes we've inherited from our 90s ancestors; 'Reflection' is all about the stompy stompy 4x4, 'More Than I Could' is all about those dreamy moments when you feel like your losing your gravitational pull, 'Take It Easy' is pure rave gospel, pianos and belting vocal galore while 'A Love So True' throws out the most beautiful bouquet. Total emotion and escapism. You may now kiss the sky.

EEEEEE - (5:35) 145 BPM
Ravetrx & Mani Festo - "Feels Good Inside" (Digital Bonus) - (6:05) 142 BPM Hot
Tyson's Fury - (5:56) 140 BPM
Review: It's another fabulous appearance from the Hooversound Recordings crew as they welcome Ravetrx inside for another sumptuous full length jungle & techno display, The project kicks off with intense chopping slides of 'Feel The Way', utilizing classic junglist themes and then jumping straight into the big room rave arrangements of 'EEEEEE', driven forward by gnarly reese textures and jittering melodies above. Next, the acidic synth swipes and high intensity drum taps of 'Feels Good Inside', followed by the system-busting drum pulses and hardcore rave pianos of 'Facebook Karen'. This feeling of intensity carries right through the heart of the track as 'Tyson's Fury' delivers another gut-punch of intense 4x4 action, with the colourful acidic textures of 'Tribe Sequence Calling' then rounding off the project in style.

Bust-Free Guaranteed - (4:24) 141 BPM
Review: Chicago producer and Planet Mu associate Chrissy (formally known as Chrissy Murderbot) surfaces once again, this time with a long player for the newly established Hooversound Recordings! Following on from records by Hyroglifics & Sinistarr, HOST and Special Request & Tim Reaper, Chrissy delivers Physical Release - an album taking in all manner of future bass and dance music sounds - beit the new age and acid of "Rooftop Sunrise" or '80s Hi NRG of "Lift Me Up" to 2000s-era US electro of "Virgin Warehouse Location" to house and proto-disco alamaglations of jungle in "Cuddle Puddle (Step Into My World)". With some looped up disco, soul and funk power coming through "Feel The Spirit Move You", get your melodic ghetto sessions through "Bust-Free Guaranteed" next to some 808 drum and bass designs in "Take Me Away (Again)" alongside "The Map Point" and "All The True Ravers".

FUK.GOV.UK
FUK.GOV.UK - (6:39) 147 BPM
Review: A breakout label to emerge from the trials and tribulations of lockdown is Hoover Recordings, a project based out of London that in its short existence has courted releases from DEFT, Special Request & Tim Reaper to Prayer, Hyroglifics & Sinistarr. Welcoming newcomer Nova Cheq to the label with the FUK.GOV.UK EP, packing a bombastic jungle rework from Nightwave, Cheq looks to hardcore, hi-tempo club and rave inspirations across its four originals. With ravey synths the major factor in "NN HARDCORE" next to a flurry of cut up amen breaks, "KAOS KAGE" offers up something dubbier with a touch of sinisterism next to gabba-sque experimental techno of "MEH, I KNOW...". Keeping the 909s riding hard in its banging title-track, here's an EP bursting to get back in the club.

In Your Arms
Love Fantasy - (8:29) 140 BPM
Review: As always with the Hooversound Recordings release catalogue, they have once again unveiled something magnificent, with this brand new five tracker from Prayer exploring breakbeats in a fascinating new light. We kick off with the heavenly pads and choppy drum lines of the title track 'In Your Arms', before 'Breathe' takes a more crunchy approach with its breakbeat sampling. Next, the ethereal synth textures continue, this time with a vocal twist over more jungle-influenced rhythms on 'No One Left', before finishing up with the epic harmonic layering of 'Love Fantasy' and intricate sampling of 'Pressure', which puts a finesse-laiden finish onto a terrific body of work.

Hooversound Presents: Private Caller & Mani Festo
Mani Festo - "Dangerous Species" - (6:27) 142 BPM
Review: Hooversound, the creation of Naina and Sherelle, is back with its fourth release. It might be their best one yet, as Private Caller and Mani Festo step up to contribute two tracks each, a cool format and one which yields a foursome of songs which are firmly grounded in the UK's breakbeat tradition. 'Inside' by Private Caller builds on a bed of hardware driven, synthtic suspense before flipping into rolling amens and a superbly slick reece bass. On 'Titan', Mani Festo brings probably the heaviest track of the release, a seismic clattering of breakbeats that carry an absurd amount of weight and move and duck into effortless rolls and shakes. A new height for the two women taking the whole of dance music by storm. Big.

SURVIVE
3D PASSIVE - (4:34) 142 BPM
Review: Host is a name we love to keep an eye on here at JunoDownload, being a producer that is always ready to unveil a new trick from under his sleeve. This latest three-tracker on Hooversound Recordings is a great example of that ability, kicking off with the chunky percussive stabs and wonky melodic layers of 'Survive' which lands in a completely unique zone. This is followed then by '3D Passive', a fusion of exceptional distortion and percussive genius, leaving the listener both satisfied and on edge at the same time. To round off the release, Om Unit gets involved on remix duty, giving 'Survive' a post-jungle makeover with fantastic results.
