Hot Creations

Hot Creations is a well respected British dance music label co-run by Jamie Jones and Lee Foss. Since 2010, the label has gained ‘global notoriety through pioneering a new and unique sound born of its founders’ deep affinity with old disco records and soulful beats’. From deep house, to tech house, to funky house and disco, Hot Creations has seen sunshine-drenched releases from names including: Patrick Topping, Miguel Campbell, Clarian, Popof, Route 94, Audiojack, Nathan Barato, Phil Kieran, PBR Streetgang, and both Jamie Jones and Lee Foss themselves. Hot Natured, Hot Waves and Hottrax are all sub-labels to Hot Creations and set up to help encompass a wider breadth of the electronic music spectrum.

Raumakustik and Jamie Jones - "Waves" (Jamie Jones re-edit) - (7:15) 125 BPM Hot
Review: After releases on Sola, Hedonism and Toolroom, Dresden-based duo Raumakustik are back on Hot Creations. The duo were responsible for the underground summer anthem '"Raider‬" which went on to be one of the biggest tracks of 2015. Their new thriller entitled "Animal" is a generous serving of bass-driven and swing fuelled tech funk featuring maximum dancefloor dynamics. This is followed by label chief Jamie Jones' edit of "Waves" going for a funked-up and polyrhythmic tribal house workout, reminiscent of the legendary DJ Sneak's Sneaky Trax from the mid '90s - super hot!

West Coast Revival (Hipp-e remix) - (6:13) 127 BPM
Review: It is indeed time for a "West Coast Revival", as it seems to be a hotspot for electronic music at present - but we're preaching to the choir really. Its well known that Los Angeles is a second home of sports to label bosses Jamie Jones and Lee Foss, and one of the very inspirations behind their Hot Creations label - now running on eight years strong. Middlesbrough-based producer James Denney (Saved, Relief, Knee Deep In Sound) certainly subscribes to the west coast is best coast mentality too, as heard on the track's deep, funky and lo-slung groove. Who else was best suited to the remix that one of the main proponents of the west coast tech-house sound himself: Hipp-E. The Californian veteran applies his unmistakable hypnotic sounds on the remix, as well a funked-up and percussive rework by man of the moment Mele from Liverpool - in his idiosyncratic style as always.

Airplane To Madrid - (6:15) 128 BPM Hot
Talkin' Bout - (6:17) 127 BPM
Acid Souls - (7:06) 126 BPM
Review: Sometime Play It Say It artist returns to Hot Creations following last year's Jamie Jones collaboration, "Doctor Zouk". It's the New York-based producer's first solo EP for the imprint and looks set to amplify his profile no end. He begins with the all-action bounce of "Airplane To Madrid", an excitable chunk of disco-tech marked out by prominent bass guitar, sweaty vocal snippets and just the right amount of mind-altering percussion. It's a driving, thrill-a-minute affair that sounds like a dancefloor hit in the making. Elsewhere, "Talkin' About" is a tough, acid-fired chunk of rolling tech-house funk, while "Acid Souls" sees Berrie wrap mangled TB-303 lines around live-sounding drums, chunky acid bass and female spoken word snippets.

Review: The pairing of Sammy W & Tobus first came to label boss Jamie Jones' attention back in 2011. Their fresh approach to DJ sets has garnered support from some of the scene's top DJs, and their their seamless blend of tech-house, funk and hip-hop has been released music on 8bit, Repopulate Mars and Brock Wild, as well as running their own labels Tobus X and Tobus Limited. Following on from last year's Bump It EP, the pair join forces once again on the Acid Terrace EP. Kicking off with the dirty, tough rolling funk of the title track with its jacked vocals, followed up by the rough and ready/Todd Terry influenced old school flavour of "Shake It" plus the druggy minimal shuffle of Jam Tight".

Review: Canadian tech house hero Nathan Barato is up next on Hot Creations, stepping away from his usual tough rolling tech-house sound for this full length. One half of duo The Roaches (with fellow Torontonian Carlo Lio), Barato has also released for the likes of Rekids, Cajual, Saved Records, Snatch and his very own Roots And Wings Music. He brings with him an old-school, energetic bounce throughout Past Forward, inviting some top names to join him for the ride. Kicking off with the early Chicago vibe of "Over You" featuring Montrealer Wayne Tenant, the freaky "She's A Rockstar" featuring Room 303, through to some hyper-boompty antics with Keith Rafael Perez, better known as Kid Enigma on "In Ya Soul" and even moments of super sexy deepness - as heard on "Don't Say It" featuring Mikey V.

Review: Hohenreglar main man Basti Grub is up next on Hot Creations, following up a string of killer tracks/remixes in recent times for Mobilee, Bouq Records and Bedrock. The Frankfurter's new killer is "Darling" - an emotive and pop-inflected groove that is right in line with the sonic vision of Jamie Jones' label and featuring some soothing vocals by one Crase Johnson. On the remix is FUSE London stalwart Rich NxT doing what he does best on this tough rolling, swing-fuelled and well funky expression in tech-house - that is aimed squarely at main room dancefloors.

Review: "Back & Forth" is the collaboration between Chi-town legend DJ Sneak and Miami booty-bass hero Jesse Perez. It is a dope hip-hop jam that features vocals from KE and reminiscent of the '90s with its broken drum beat and spoken word lyrics. Sneak himself says that he wanted to create 'a street smart dance floor track with powerful latino sounds and all the right ingredients for a club banger'. Young Brazilian talent DJ Lukke is first to remix it, co-produced alongside Blakkat aka Mark Bell goes for a bass-heavy reggaeton influenced bounce while the legendary Ricardo Villalobos goes deep into the afterhours with his hypnotic minimalist rendition that is as idiosyncratic as ever,

Review: Sizeup is the the alias of one Jamie Burley, a York based producer/DJ who has had a passion for electronic music from a young age, hauling bags of vinyl to his school discos with choice selections from legendary producers like Frankie Knuckles, Kevin Saunderson and Todd Terry. He follows up releases on Material, Moon Harbour and Underground Audio with this new scorcher for the always reliable Hot Creations and he was a good choice - his sound is right in line with the label's punchy and summery tech-house vibe. This is rather apparent on the title track, with its disco tinge reminiscent of classic NYC house from the late 90s. Speaking of which: the fittingly titled next track "Don't Know Disco" indeed goes down more of a dirty, boompty tech-house route, much like the following track "Dertober".

Review: Rebuke is an Irish DJ and producer who is on the ascent. He runs the night Outhouse in Kilterkenny and he has released EP's and singles on Saved, Toolroom and Mother with ones on DFTD to follow in the coming months. Most recently, his Rebuke/rave series has been causing a major stir with reimagined versions of rave era classics such as "Bombscare" and "The Tape" gaining glowing reviews from top DJs. Reuben Keeney serves up the tough rolling minimal funk of "Along Came Polly" - story has it that Keeney found it perhaps a bit too weird for Jamie Jones & Co. but the boss man by all accounts was loving it! Second offering "Rolo" does deep down and dirty disco loops for the late night in the vein or DJ Sneak or Phil Weeks in impressive fashion.

Danzer (Adesse Versions remix) - (5:48) 122 BPM
Review: Already road-tested at his Ibiza residency during the summer, Syrossian says that "Danzer" was made in response to his frustration at modern house and techno. Certainly, its stream of consciousness vocal sample, shimmering chords and massive, filtered disco riff will endear it to any one who has grown sick of by the numbers gloomy techno. On the 'Techno Tool' take, the chords are deeper and more intense, while the bass booms powerfully. The other interpretation, offered by Adesse Versions, is markedly different. It see him lower the tempo, add in steely drums and drop a wiry acid line that niggles and nags like a Mediterranean matriarch.

The Gradus Records boss now spends most of his time on The White Isle and that sure is evident on his new killer for Hot Creations. The sleazy late night bounce of "Activator" is perfect to set the mood when they turn the lights down the low - and sweat starts to drip from the walls. This release following up some tough grooves on Circus, Saved and Rawthentic. In typical Hot Creations style "Upside Down" is aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor and bounces away in near bombastic fashion, to get the crowd into the zone a bit earlier in the night "Piano Not Piano" works a treat with its dubby and hypnotic elements, as does "Sound Like That" with its use of strong swing and its catchy vocal refrain.

House Hits Vol 1
Story Of My Life - (6:42) 124 BPM Hot
Don't Waste My Time - (7:34) 128 BPM
Review: The unstoppable Paul Woolford returns. If the veteran Leeds producer wasn't busy enough churning out retro flavoured dancefloor weapons as Special Request, or bold house and techno on acclaimed imprints like Hotflush, Aus Music and Planet E - he's also found the time to make uplifting party house vibes recently for Edible and now Hot Creations. Fittingly, his latest offering is named House Hits Vol 1: a tongue in cheek albeit direct title for these two catchy and potentially anthemic classic house perspectives. The familiar bounce of "Story Of My Life" is reminiscent of The Windy City's first wave - think Ralphi Rosario or the like. There's a familiar vocalloop on the deep down and dirty acid trip "Don't Waste My Time" as well, which channels another icon of the same period's heyday - Trax Records.

The former Flashmob member now dons the Rogue D alias, which has thus fair served up two hot releases for Defected sublabel DFTD recently and "Chains" takes up from where those EPs have left off. Review: Tiger Stripes started off with releases on deep house labels like Ibadan and Nite Grooves, but this outing on Hot Creations sees him pivot towards a tougher sound. Granted, the title track still features vocals, but the chords surge menacingly, the kicks are steely and heavy and there are surges of noisy bass throughout. "Haunted" is more understated and stripped back, focusing on the Swedish producer's ability to weave together hypnotic, minimal house. However, his melodic sensibility is still audible in the tripped out hooks that rise up through the arrangement. "Dunjacka" is more in keeping with the Hot Creations in-house sound, as a looped vocal sample emerges through the jacking arrangement, while Leftroom's Matt Tolfrey drops a linear, funky take on the title track.

Review: With releases on labels like Defected and Get Physical to his credit, it is fair to say that Alessandro Magani aka Flashmob is one of the hottest tickets in house music right now. This is abundantly clear on The Lone Brazilian, his Hot Creations debut. The title track sees him sampling tribal chants and an ethnic vocal over a robust bass and tough, punchy drums. It makes for an intoxicating combination and is sure to cause mayhem whenever it's dropped. By contrast, "Lower Level" is more tracky and sees him opt for a murky bass and rolling snares to achieve the same effect as "Brazilian".

He reappears here for Hot Creations, following up some great ones for the label a couple of years back. Featuring the rolling, main-room people mover "Moon Crash", jam packed full of swing-fuelled rhythms, big bassline and trippy samples galore - this one's guaranteed to the rock the White Isle this Summer. Review: It is fair to say by now that Leeds based rising star Jey Kurmis is a true staple of Jamie Jones' Hot Creations - he's amassed several releases on the label in the last year or so. The three cuts offered up on his new Jessycat EP are aimed squarely at afterhours dancefloors: from the deep, druggy and bouncing title track, to the seething bass driven assault of "Vanstone" which layers a few levels of nifty low end business over its 4/4 shuffle. Our favourite of the bunch though was his collaboration with Belgian duo Nukov & Yelmet (Moon Harbour/Deeperfect) entitled "Fien" which packs the most punch of the bunch. The tough stomp of "Sound Pump" is fuelled by the signature bounce of the TR-808, jacked vocals and Plastikman style snare attacks. That chance comes via the mighty Hot Creations crew, who has decided to make this two tracker their first vinyl release of 2018. The real killer is A-side "Moxy", a bustling beast built around the kind of booming sub-bass pulses that were once a big feature of house and techno tracks created in the producer's home city. With track title names like "Ghetto Booty" (original mix) it leaves little to the imagination but with the Windy City provocateur in the house: this fast, dirty and bass heavy jam it's sure to bang the party! There's some expert help on the way courtesy of Miami booty bass engineer Jesse Perez with his Cutler Ridge Booty mix going for more of a slinky and sexy tech house groove - that's exactly in line with the Hot Creations style. Review: It sounds like Hot Creations regular Patrick Topping has been listening to a lot of classic soul. On the title track of his latest release for the label, he fuses a sultry female vocal - similar to Aretha Franklin - over a bass-heavy, walking groove and incessant, hypnotic horns. It's the type of infectious, upbeat tune that'll be championed by big room DJs. "Track Change" marks a different approach: the UK producer opts for a more reduced, stripped back groove, and even though he uses a vocal sample, its robotic and repetitive, and fits perfectly with the tough rhythm, acid belches and metallic percussion that support it.

Review: Aside from an early EP for Jamie Jones' Hot Creations, Mark Foster's Solardo project has helped the Relief label go through a bit of a revival period, stepping out of the underground and back into the mainstream. For reference, Relief Records is one of Chicago's most important house music labels, and should be treated with the upmost respect. Thankfully, Solardo knows this and, while this may still not live up to the original material from the likes of Glenn Underground and co, it most certainly provides some refreshing rave vibes! "Fall Down" is a percussion-heavy banger guided by a low-cut acid bass and those infamous hardcore stabs we all instantly recognise; the Carlo Lio remix builds and builds until its drop unleashes a blockade of steady tech-house beats for the modern ear. Then big don MK requires the tune with his inimitable touch, flexing that groove out into a sexy, garage-leaning banger.

Theme From S'Express (Tuff City Kids Acid dub remix) - (5:44) 118 BPM
Review: Well consider us surprised to say the least: we'd have never of thought that the acid house anthem "Theme From S'Express" would get a re-release on Jamie Jones' Hot Creations powerhouse - not to mention some absolutely killer remixes. Originally released in 1989 and produced by the legendary Mark Moore (in collaboration with Pascal Gabriel) from their debut studio album, Original Soundtrack. It peaked at No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in April 1988 for two weeks and is considered as one of the earliest electronic music songs to incorporate sampling. The remixes come courtesy of Greek tech house hero Detlef - whose version is respectful to the original, but gives it an adequately modern reshape and works that 303 acid darn well. Lauer and Gerd Janson's Tuff City Kids remix keeps it in the late '80s realm, like they always do so well. It incorporates some steel drum presets and a hot Juno bassline.

Jamie Jones vs Nookie - "Sound Of Music" (feat Katy B) - (5:46) 125 BPM

Positive Pressure (feat Kevin Knapp) - (6:10) 125 BPM
Parallel Universe - (6:30) 125 BPM
Review: Hot Creations boss Jamie Jones manages to find time for another release, in between his Ibiza residency and travelling the globe as one of modern house music's most popular DJs. His latest offering brings everything you'd expect from the Welshman and nothing less. These four Summery and pop-inflected tech house cuts are hot material on their own and make a cohesive EP. Starting off with the anthemic "Sound Of Music" covering jungle legend Nookie's track of the same name and with pop sensation Katy B on vocals. The rolling peak time groove "Kooky Chords" is absolutely the sound of not only 'The Island' but Jones' label and will bang the party just as much as recent offerings by wAFF or Phil Kieran. Then there's a bouncy and sleazy early evening jam in the form of "Positive Pressure" featuring American Kevin Knapp and the druggy/minimal afterhours DJ tool "Parallel Universe".

Review: After a busy eighteen months promoting his debut album 'Catch Me If You Can'; which received accolades from both Mixmag and DJ Mag, Essex's Max Chapman brings us his La Fiesta EP. Since his arrival on the scene six years ago, Chapman has released on a who's who of labels including VIVa, Toolroom and Elrow. With "La Fiesta", Chapman has encompassed the essence of The White Isle. He claims that his tracks come together organically only after a few hours of 'playing around' in the studio, but this track came from a very clear intention of how he wanted it to sound. After a night out at Ibiza institution Amnesia; where he became hypnotised by the sweltering latin rhythms, he went straight home and worked on the track immediately: and here's the result. The EP comes with some great remixes by the versatile Luca Cazal and house veteran Todd Terry.

Review: Greek tech house hero Mihalis Safras has sure had quite the rise to the top. Starting out modestly with releases on Trapez, Great Stuff and Saved while pumping out the goods on his now esteemed institution Material Series: he's now one of the biggest names in the scene. A consistent headliner at The White Isle's biggest parties and recipient of numerous industry awards. The now London based producer serves up a smashing release for fellow London big wigs Hot Creations. "Raygun Rave" sees Jamie Jones & Lee Foss' label venture further from pop inflected house sounds into more hard hitting dancefloor artillery. With its rolling bassline, swing fuelled rhythm and druggy elements: this absolutely has the peak time in mind. "One Stop To Babel" is more more funky and summery: a versatile weapon to play day or night but the remix up next by Vakant boss Mathias Kaden is much more powerful and moody.

Realities Forgotten (Matthew Herbertas aRemembering' dub) - (6:49) 123 BPM
Think Too Much (Unloved David Holmes remix) - (6:30) 126 BPM
Review: This second EP of remixes of tracks from Phil Kieran's impressive Blinded By The Sun album is notable for containing a now rare remix from fellow Northern Irishman David Holmes. The producer-turned-soundtrack composer delivers a predictably hazy, atmospheric interpretation of "Loved Too Much" that skillfully balances cinematic traits with the hypnotic techno found on his earliest releases. While undeniably impressive, Matthew Herbert's distinctively wonky, micro-house style rub of "Realities Forgotten" is arguably even better. Throw in a cheery, piano-heavy deep house take on 'Solar Storm" by Mano Le Tough, and you have an essential collection of tasty, club-ready reworks.

Crazy Bitch - (6:42) 124 BPM
Dark Keyless - (7:58) 130 BPM
Review: Hot Creations gear up to drop the eagerly anticipated new release by Rowan Jones aka Route 94. Echoing the excitement that surrounded his number one hit "My Love" which propelled him to stardom in 2014, the release has been in serious demand for months. Title track "House & Pressure" contains the vocals from Joey Negro's classic "Ride the Storm" featuring Linda Clifford. The dominant female vocal on the track, combined with the force of the drum machines makes for quite a powerful production. The affectionately titled "Crazy Bitch" has more of a big room sound and incorporates ghetto house elements. "Dark Keyless" is the complete opposite, creating a groove that aims to grab the crowd and let them loose. With a wealth of new material still on the way and a hectic touring schedule in place, it's clear this is only the start for the young artist.

Review: Matthew Dear lands on Hot Creations under his notorious Audion moniker. At the top of his game for over a decade, the talented artist has also released successful albums under his original name and performed with a live band; opening arenas for Depeche Mode, Interpol and more. In true Audion style, "Starfucker" takes a series of unexpected turns and the groove propelled track is made to shake up big rooms. Audion's second original "Need Your Loving" is equally intoxicating, with subtle vocals and driving drums. Over twenty years into his career and Ian Pooley is still releasing on the biggest and cutting edge labels, with recent appearances on Innervisions, Ovum and Tsuba. He packs the swing into his remix and adds his signature style with a touch of class. The Martinez Brothers remix is bursting with energy and demonstrates the duo's understanding for how to work the main room.

Review: Andrea Oliva is one of Europe's rising tech-house stars - and with good reason. Following releases on labels like Cadenza, Saved and Be As One, he drops Trust for Hot Creations. The title track is a hypnotic tribal house affair that rolls to the sound of a hypnotic female vocal, features a mushed acid break down and a soaring bass that sounds like it was recycled from an old hardcore record."Soho Nights" is a tighter, jacking affair; it revolves around a steely rhythm a surging bass and the kind of siren-led riffs that will ensure it causes mayhem wherever it is dropped.

The First Time - (7:19) 123 BPM Hot
Personal Question (original mix) - (6:21) 125 BPM
Review: Since making his debut in 2014, Bontan has made a serious impression. This first outing on Hot Creations follows much-played material on Madtech, Circus, Toolroom, Cajual and Suara. "The First Time" is retro-futurist in feel, featuring as it does a combination of undulating, acid-style motifs, jacking Chicago-style drum fills, bouncy tech-house beats and a drowsy, seemingly sampled spoken word vocal. "Personal Question" takes a similar sonic approach, utilizing a bolder, Adonis style bassline, nagging bleep noises, and delay-laden vocal snippets to conjure a sweaty, late night mood. Both tracks are solid rather than sensational, but undoubtedly have the right blend of ingredients to cause major dancefloor devastation.

Back To The Music (Route 94 remix) - (5:33) 127 BPM Hot
Afraid Of The Dark (original mix) - (5:08) 127 BPM
Review: Having impressed with a string of bass-heavy house cuts on his Take Control label, Sooney has earned a big money transfer to Hot Creations. "Back To The Music" is a bombastic, club-ready affair, with the London producer expertly joining the dots between the mind-altering sub-bass and skittish beats of UK garage, the saucer-eyed positivity of early UK hardcore, and the melodious warmth of big room tech-house. Fellow UK producer Route 94 weighs in with a slightly deeper but no less bass-heavy remix, before Sooney fixes his booming UK bass influences to the muscular drums of Twilo-era Danny Tenaglia on the thrusting "Afraid of the Dark". All three tracks are undeniably large, suggesting that we're going to hear a lot more from Sooney when UK festival season rolls around.

Find Love (Andrew Weatherall remix) - (7:42) 117 BPM Hot
Review: Irish techno hero surprised us all with the summery and housey bumpiness of his full length opus Blinded By The Sun last year in 2016 which signalled a real change in direction for the master producer's sound for powerhouse label Hot Creations. There are now some killer remixes of some tracks from the album: first up Frankfurt legend Roman Flugel who gives "No Life" a deep and atmospheric makeover with a chunky/razor sharp bassline and trippy analogue synth atmospherics throughout: the guy's trademark really. Next up the imitable Andrew Weatherall delivers an epic and euphoric take on "Find Love" which is awash in sublime arpeggios and dusty rhythms and manages to retain the pop inflected aesthetics: those vocals work really well and add another dimension to the track...

Freak Beater EP
Stomp Change - (7:04) 127 BPM Hot
Freaks Of The Industry - (6:39) 127 BPM
Review: Aside from a slurry of EPs for important house and techno labels like Rekids Area Remote, Canada's Nathan Barato has become a fundamental member of Jamie Jone's Hot Creations crew, and that in itself is a sign of respect. The present Freak Beater is the man's fourth EP for the label, and "Stomp Change" kicks things into motion with an instantly penetrative, deeply engrossing groove that sits somewhere between tech-house and high-speed electro-juke; the tune is one to bang out at peak time, that's for sure. "Freaks Of The Industry" is no less abrasive and floor-proof, except that the groove is a lot more fluid, leaving more space for the percussion to mould around the track's freaky bass ensemble. Another pair of HC party starters.

Review: Up next on Jamie Jones' tech house power house is Canadian rising star Paolo Rocco. The Montreal native's profile has increased in significance steadily over the last few years with great releases/remixes on the likes of Saved, Defected and I'm A House Gangster. First track "Judgement" is a bumpin' and jacking affair with tough beats and dirty vocals over its tight groove. It gets some wicked remixes too: Greek tech house hero Detlef works his magic as always with his rolling and adrenalised rendition that will appeal to fans of Gruuv or Knee Deep In Sound. Then what was a most interesting addition: in the form of UK legend Trevino who delivers a dark and tunnelling late night cut, with some snarling 303 acid throughout that will have you surrendering to the void. Finally, one more original track is on offer in the form of "That's It", a dusty and jackin' tune that's full of swing and oddball samples that will work a treat at the Sunday afternoon afterhours.

Review: Two heroes of the new breed kick off a new mix series for Jamie Jones' esteemed Hot Creations imprint. Jones began Paradise at DC10 (Ibiza) five years ago and it's gone on to be a huge success, inviting the biggest names in the business to come play alongside his crew of residents. The first mix is courtesy of Toronto's Nathan Barato, a frequent collaborator with local heroes such as Carlo Lio and The Junkies and whose career has been on the rise with releases on Cajual, Saved, Circus and Defected. Highlights include the Derrick Carter classic "Where Ya At?" (Mix Originale), Makam's brooding "Loleatta" and Jared Wilson's rusty acid odyssey "Girl, I'm Waitin". UK talent Patrick Topping this year completed his third summer as resident at DC10 in Ibiza for Paradise. Here Topping showcases the sound and style of his sets with high energy from the word go. His mix features several of his own productions guaranteed for maximum dancefloor impact, as well as Metaboman's lo-slung and exotic "Next Please" through to Dave Clarke's massive remix of Jark Prongo's "Movin Thru Your System".
