Review: "Kind of... Robotnick" the third installment in the Simple Music series, presents a diverse collection of tracks that sees the Italian legend provide both instrumental and vocal numbers. With tracks like "Lipstick" exploring the complexities of personal image and "What You Think of Me" delving into the insecurities of modern life, the lyrical narratives add depth and relatability to the album's themes. "Kiss Me Love Goodbye" offers a poignant reflection on the banality of contemporary romance, juxtaposed with a woman's refusal to succumb to trite expressions of affection. Meanwhile, dance-floor oriented instrumentals like "Moving Light" and "Frenzy Games" infuse energy and rhythm, showcasing Robotnick's adeptness at crafting infectious beats.

Review: Hot Elephant's output normally runs heavily to Italo/electronic disco, but coming from cosmic originator Alexander Robotnick you'd expect a certain eclecticism - as evidenced by this six-tracker from Indian duo Hybrid Protokol, who describe their music as "progressive electronica blended with breaks, acid and techno". The 'Samsara' EP finds them in downtempo territory, but don't expect fluffy, blissed-out Balearica: 'Experimental explorations' would perhaps be a better description, with cuts ranging from the near-ambience of the title track to the fractured beatscape of 'Dhariyan', via subsonic excursion 'Ameyaa' and the dystopian soundtrack vibes of 'Arohan'. A red-eyed, post-club gem that's well worth investigating.

Review: With a career that dates back to the early 80s, Alexander Robotnick isn't so much a master of synth-heavy electronic disco as one of the inventors of the style. As such, expectations for his latest long-playing opus will be high, but suffice to say this is a set that will delight his many fans and possibly earn him some more. It's equally true to say that there are no real surprises or curveballs on offer - from dreamy opener 'And Here It Comes Again' to the Gallic-inspired retro futurism of 'Le Carillon' via aptly-named synth workout 'Intergalactic Travel', the cosmic 'Arpico' and the bassy throb of 'The World Is Dark', this is Robotnick doing what he does best. But if it ain't broke, etc...

Review: Legend Alexander Robotnick is back serving up the latest release on his very own Hot Elephant label titled Simple Music. The concept fits any style of club music, born from a need to combine traditional music elements such as chords and melodies to create variations and keep the listener interested. Robotnick kicks off the LP with the typically wacky Italo style of "Babel" featuring vocoder which is a constant throughout, there's also the experimental synthpop of "Underpass", club oriented material like the soulful techno epic "I Want To Know" and ending with the tunnelling and psychedelic title track.

Fall - (6:14) 120 BPM
Winter - (6:01) 120 BPM
Review: We'd like to think that Alexander Robotnik's latest release was inspired by the four seasons of the year, rather than the name of the pizza that adorns its cover artwork. Opener "Springtime" certainly sounds like the perfect accompaniment to a breezy, chilly and crisp morning walk in April, with the veteran Italian producer wrapping gorgeous electronics and synthesizer melodies around a chunky electronic house groove. Unsurprisingly, "Summer" is warmer and more psychedelic but no less picturesque in its' genuine peak-time charms, while "Fall" is a bass-heavy jaunt through starburst synths, loose-limbed machine drums and gentle acid lines. As for "Winter", it's as pure and glistening as a Swiss Mountain retreat at sunrise.

Review: According to Alexander Robotnick's label Hot Elephants, India continues to be overwhelmingly young, with nearly half of its population below the age of 20. By the end of this decade, the average age in India will be 29 and set to become the world's youngest country. This is 'indicative of a widespread vitality in Indian culture across all art fields': music in particular. A large young population also means the entertainment industry is booming and dance music plays a major role in it. Indian TechXpress is a sample from the future of electronic dance music. You won't find much 'Indian sound' in it , as traditionally defined, but included on the compilation are: rising German expat Pawas Gupta (with Unnayanaa) on the soulful and melodic techno of "P-2", ToneFabrik with the euphoric classic prog house sounds of "Solar Fields" and Diatonik with the very Innervisions/Afterlife sounding dancefloor drama of "Morphosis".

Review: Tulioxi is back with his first 2017 release on Alexander Robotnick's Hot Elephant. Mattia Tuliozi has already had two previous releases for the imprint and this new effort showcases the artist's development. Made with a large selection of electronic instruments; from Roland Grooveboxes to old samplers, modular synthesis and electronic drum shaping - the tracks emanate hot and fresh vibes. The dark and grinding arpeggio of "Apollo 409" sits somewhere between Italo disco and EBM: it's a brooding yet infectious affair. It gets a properly cosmic rendition up next by fellow Italian nu-disco legend from Venice: Bottin. Second original offering "Animal Funk" is a more traditional disco affair with progressive rock tendencies. It too gets remixed by boss man Robotnick, whose rendition gets well funky and more upbeat with added dancefloor dynamics.

Review: Italian prankster Bottin teaming up with Alexander Robotnick? You better believe it and what a killer combo. Getting straight down to business on "Parade" which pairs the musical sensibilities of both just splendidly on this superb retro house jam. Lauer: look out! Second track "Robottin" gets even more brazen with its throwback obsession exploring some of the cheesiest yet loveable analogue synth presets in one big fabulous medley.

In 1996 I Was Like This - (6:56) 120 BPM
White Wedding (feat MLC - cover) - (5:55) 126 BPM
Review: A somewhat experimental smorgasbord of genres and influences on this solid debut from Tulioxi. House-meets-disco with an element of tech and more than a slight nod back to the 80's, coming from both the synth and effects as well as the vocals on the title track. 'Wrong Reference' is a cool hybrid or modern and retro and has an all round cooler feel to it. With 'In 1996 I Was Like This' he gets all acid induced with a psy flex, while completing the package is an instant crowd pleaser with his cover of 'White Wedding'. A bit of everything here, with some proper outside-the-box thinking, which will add an interesting twist to any set.

Review: Maurizio Dami, aka Alexander Robotnick, is a total legend. Following his early hippy years, he ended up scoring his mate's Italian mime performances - inadvertently helping invent Italo-disco in the process. He gave up 80s disco stardom for world music adventures in the 90s but was lured back into production (and indeed DJing) by The Hacker about ten years ago. He's been pretty prolific on the electro-disco scene ever since, even recently releasing a host of rarities from his personal vaults. This latest instalment reveals a variety of styles including house: "In My House", acid/breaks: "Submarine" and electro-house: "Disco Asha". Tulioxi provides both bouncy house and Chicagoish remixes of "TB Maniac" and finally Electric Prince delivers a killer doomy techno-disco rework of "Minore Terzo".

Review: Given his 30-plus year history of production, we should probably never be surprised by the contents of Alexander Robotnick's seemingly endless archives. Yet this release has surprised us. Lead cut "Funky Skunky" sounds like a cross between early prog house and nu-disco, while "It Was Like A Dream" re-casts Mr Fingers-ish deep house and wonky Italo. "Infinite Solitude" is less surprising; with its chiming synth melodies, cheery appreggios and Eurodisco strut, it's vintage Robotnick. As if that lot wasn't enough, there are two bonus remixes of "Can You Feel Me", including a storming, techno-tinged rework from Things Happen.

Minore Terzo - (5:51) 126 BPM
Review: Robo-disco pioneer Alexander Robotnick takes another dip into his vast back catalogue and unearths a trio of previously unheard electronic bangers. Opener "It's All Right Baby" is a typically cute and kitsch take on synth disco, offering a mix of Italian house chords, bustling synth bass and some decidedly cheery melodies. The darker "Disco Action" is arguably the pick of the EP. It offers a twisted, Italo-meets-acid house concoction that bristles with aggressive dancefloor intent. Closer "Minor Terzo", meanwhile, showcases Robotnick at his brooding, foreboding best, all hypnotic electronic rhythms, intoxicating melodies and moody chords.

Review: It's always nice to have some vintage Alexander Robotnick fare to discuss. The three tracks here are typical of his late 70s/early 80s style, mixing up tough, arppegiated rhythms with vocoder vocals, bombastic metallic noises and even proto-acid tweakery. There's also a touch of tongue-in-cheek campery, too, in the shape of an Italo cover of Chic's disco classic "Le Freak". The EP's real highlight, though, is opener "Seranade", which bubbles away nicely in classic Robotnick, robo-disco fashion. Timeless!
