Review: Having previously impressed with a fine outing on his own Deep Sense imprint, Sould Out brings his trademark brand of warm, synth-laden disco grooves to Hotbox Recordings. He kicks things off with the Fernando-ish, live bass-driven boogie-house sweetness of "Get The Funk", before pursuing a more synthesizer-heavy nu-disco sound on "Over Me". "Heartache", the EP's final original moment, is a curious - but hugely enjoyable - fusion of reggae-disco grooves and dub disco panache. The release also boasts a couple of fine remixes. Dicky Trisco gives "Get The Funk" a piano-heavy, bongo-laden tweak, whilst Silver City man Julian Sanza turns "Over Me" into a tactile, cosmic disco treat.
Review: Denver, Colorado based deep house imprint Hotbox Recordings are back with a full length from Dubai based artist Jus Tadi. He delivers a dozen shades of groovy deep house here that are perfect for the warm up or the afterhours alike. There's the funky and filtered (but definitely deep) floor fillers in the form of "Can't Take That Away" "Diskach" and "Wishing". But also the more driving percussive tech house of "Come Together" and "Sorcery Of Spectacle". If that wasn't enough there's also a bit of modern deep house style on tracks like "Waves Beyond" and "You Always Sing The Same" which sound reminiscent of stuff on Jimpster's Freerange label. Not a bad thing!
Review: Following hot on the heels from outings on 1978 Music Co, Logical and La Talacha, Lemon Mint transfers to Hotbox Recordings for his latest trip into hazy, disco-sampling deep house territory. He smartly explores different moods and tempos across the six original tracks, from the paring horns, woozy loops and head-nodding bump of opener "Just Like You", to the beachside bump and glistening guitars of "Maximino", the EP's most up-tempo moment. Highlights are pleasingly plentiful, with the '80s house-goes-Latin bliss of "Esmerelda" standing out. There's also a tasty bonus in the shape of a Funk District remix of "Just Like You", which somehow manages to make the groovy original even sunnier.
Review: It's Italian club maverick and disco twister Kiu D back in business for the prolific Hotbox label, and you know that means only one thing: party-time. The dude serves up a whopping six new cuts on this devilish little EP, all of them well-suited to a Saturday evening spin on the ol' decks, at prime time. The title track "Surrender" is a lovely, slo-mo boogie attack with a house sensitivity, while "Touch" is our favourite due to its grizzly bottom end, jazzy piano keys and organic percussion swing. Make sure that you also check "New Air", a funky-as-hell house bombshell for the summer months. All in all, a fine blend of house and disco groovers.
Review: Embat Prodz are a production and DJ duo comprising Alberto Casallo and Miki Leris. Based in the Balearic Islands, Mallorca to be specific, their hazy, slow tempo sound couldn't be more suited to their location. Now thanks to Hotbox Recordings we have a whole album from the duo, which features 10 sizzling sunset-house joints all littered with trippy vocals. Highlights include the shimmering opener "Competition Classes", the deep, but solid disco of "Stop Now" and the slinky, soulful head nodder "Whatsap Me". Slick!
Review: Having previously shown his disco-centric, party-starting side via releases on Cold Busted, Freak 2 Freak and Chopshop, Dubai-based DJ/producer Bloody Tadi has decided to prove his deep house credentials with an album of tracks for Hotbox Recordings. The result is a sensuous, rolling and atmospheric affair that combines dreamy chords, undulating electronics and sturdy grooves with a range of disco, boogie and '80s soul samples. While Tadi shows he's capable of doing deep tech-house well (see "Motion Emotion" and slow jam "Moon Noodles"), it's the more soul-flecked tracks, such as the Tiger and Woods style chugger "Routin", that really impress.
