Review: The Hotflush name and brand has always been synonymous with futuristic flavour, making this exceptional collection a perfect way to celebrate their success over the years, taking the title 'Post Whatstep?'. The project takes a serious deep-dive into the concept of thinking outside the box, whilst still maintaining genre ties to garage, dubstep and techno throughout. The roster involved is pretty outstanding, with household names such as Scuba, Mount Kimbie, TRG, Dub U and Untold all providing seriously high quality inclusions. There are definitely a few stand out features, with the sweeping synthetic layers of 'Don't You' from George Fitzgerald being an immediate point of interest, next to the heavily sidechained atmospherics of Sepalcure's 'Love Pressure' and the more old school garage chops of Or:la's 'UK Lonely' also setting a high standard. Exceptional work, as we have come to expect from such a critical UK label voice.

Review: The latest compilation from Scuba's label features some of dance music's most distinctive producers. Recondite delivers "Pour", a throbbing, spaced out groove that will leave listeners mesmerised. Locked Groove, another Hotflush regular, also focuses on the deeper end of techno with the hypnotic, flowing "From Beyond". The compilations also includes "If You Still Want Me", an evocative house cut from Yotam Anvi, where plaintive vocals unravel over a dubbed out groove, while Scuba himself impresses with the synth-heavy "Nineteen Eighty" and, working as SCB, drops the steely, stepping rhythm of "Five Degrees". Floor 2.1 is an essential release for anyone with even a passing interest in forward-facing techno and house.

Review: Following on from the recent 2.1 compilation, Hotflush again shows why it is such an essential dance floor label. It features established artists like Agoria, who drops the discordant tones and spiky minimalism of "Helice" and Recondit with the deep, dubbed out "Channel" , alongside emerging producers like Glaskin with the twisted acid of "You Are Simply A Machine". No Hotflush compilation would be complete without its owner Scuba's input; here it takes various forms, including a broken beat remix of "Ruptured" by Surgeon, and the SCB sub-project dropping the sub-bass led "Rope". If that wasn't reason enough to buy Floor 2.2, there is also a fine techno track from the late, great Trevino.

Review: Hotflush unveils a diverse, dance floor-focused compilation full of original productions and high-quality remixes. Kiimi's "Breaking My Mind" and the Baltra take on label owner Scuba's "Never Forget" are vocal, dusky house tracks. Meanwhile, Truncate's take on the Hotflush owner's "Speed This MF Up" and the string-soaked "Hyperdrive" by Locked Groove both offer fine perspectives on deep techno. On "Mescalito", Nightwave drops a rolling tribal track, while underlining the diversity on offer on this compilation, Alden Tyrell's remix of TML's "Cell ID" from the 2019 Tensor release also features. It's a gnarly electro workout that sounds like it crawled from a sewer in the Hague.

Review: SCB had been an alias for Scuba's dance floor-focused techno tracks, but as Caibu and the EPs that preceded it demonstrate, it is now also a vehicle for the UK producer to explore different styles and to articulate his concerns about modern society. Tracks like the bleep-heavy "Test Tubes" and the storming, big room "Manufactured Consent" - the title a riff on the classic Chomsky tome - show that the project remains synonymous with killer techno, but Caibu succeeds largely by showcasing SCB's other side. "The Cut" is a shimmering, widescreen piece of music, the tone-laden breaks of "Freedom for the Fifty" sees Scuba seek justice for a wronged group, while the warbling, off-centre "Extinct" is an understated sound track for end of times.

Review: In the three years since his last full-length outing, Personality, Scuba's stock has continued to rise, nudging him further towards to higher echelons of DJ culture. The fact that he now plays colossal rooms and festival headline slots can be heard in the more dancefloor-minded material on Claustrophobia. While some of the best material is more downtenpo and circumspect - see the heady ambience of "Transcience", the spinetingling wooziness of "All I Think About Is Death" and the immersive dubstep of "Needle Phobia" - it's the stripped-back techno throb of "PCP", hissing rhythms of "Television" and the progressive house inspired hedonism of "Why You Feel So Low" that will get most attention.

Review: 2013 was the last time we heard from Praveen Sharma aka Braille and Travis Stewart aka Machinedrum, who together have always made music as Sepalcure. In fact, it was this project that allowed them to make a name for themselves via Scuba's Hotflush Recordings, and the duo return to the the label with this new album, Folding Time. The best way to describe these scorchers is to dub them under neo-R&B, a rather wide banner, we know, but it really gets the mood of these tunes across. Electronic beats are always an important part of the arrangements, but the melodies and vocals are soulful, drenched in a spiritual pop flair that makes this LP as smooth as f***, and a perfect comeback to this great project.

Review: UK house hero George Fitzgerald burst onto the scene several years ago and before his ManMakeMusic imprint made a splash: his success was in a large part attributed to appearances on Scuba's Hotflush. His first release: 2010's The Let Down / Weakness EP appears here as part of another instalment in the label's Update series, where core artists are placed under the spotlight with an impressive body of work. 2011's excellent Shackled EP is represented, featuring all three tracks (including the rather lush "Friends In High Places"), as well as 2013's Thinking Of You EP. If that was not enough, you also get treated to his stellar remix of label mates Dense & Pika's dancefloor weapon "Colt" for added value.

Review: Within UK dance music's expansive circles, there are few who have offered as much as Scuba over the years, who here returns to his beloved Hotflush household for a stunning new project by the name of 'In Retrograde'. This project sees him traverse a complete spectrum of electronic music, with a half time dubstep feel being the central yarn in its tapestry. From the distorted utterings of 'Buzzsaw' and funky inspired flavours of 'Gyroscope' to the more soundscape led compositions of 'Entrospect' and 'Ants', this project boasts a wealth of musical expertise, showcasing a depth of dubstep influences and offshoots.

Review: The Hotflush team have once again unveiled an absolute gem of an LP, this time welcoming back the man himself Scuba, delivering 7 original creations that pack an awesome breaksy punch. The whole EP sets the bar high, from the shuffling drum scuttles and groove-inspiring chord progressions of the introductory 'Disrepute', to the old school shakes of 'Zap!' and speedy melodic twists of 'Yesterday', there aren't many places this EP doesn't cover. Our highlights from this delightful collection would have to include the acidic intricacies of 'Safety Traxx', which immediately lets fly a bulbous collection of nostalgic-bassline action, alongside the rave-ready piano lines of 'Room With A View'. What a return this is for Scuba, who has once again smashed it out of the park.

Review: Tim Van de Meutter aka Locked Groove's debut album is a product of its surroundings. A Belgian native, the Hotflush artist draws on his home country's rich electronic music heritage to create a unique soundtrack. Rave is represented by the uplifting break beats and time-stretched vocals of Nate Brown on "Pudding", on "Out of Orbit", he draws on the tripped out, hypnotic sound of New Beat and "Oscillate" is a sublime slice of Belgian trance. On other occasions, Van de Meutter takes inspiration from classic house - witness the Lil' Louis-style "Do Not Freak" - or deep techno jams such as "From Beyond", but in the main, this is truly a Belgian affair.

Review: In the last several years, German producer Lorenz Brunner has established himself as one of the most defining voices in techno with his singular sound. You just know a Recondite track when you hear one: dark/epic and melodic journeys that have brought ultimate euphoria to many of the world's biggest dancefloors and courtesy of a who's who of labels. From Innervisions and Life & Death through to Dystopian, to name but a few. Another revered institution that has championed his work of course, is Hotflush, and the brilliant Bavarian is their next label stalwart to be thrust under the spotlight as part of their Update series. The much celebrated DRGN / Wist 365 EP from 2012 appears, in addition to ?2014's Caldera and last years Phalanx EP. Plus, not one, but two remixes of label boss Scuba's "The Hope".

Review: Hotflush introduce the Epoch Sinus LP, the debut for audio/visual artist PYUR. The young producer grew up in Munich, amongst the scene that spawned artists like the Zenker Brothers and Skee Mask, starting out as a guitarist and singer before 'becoming spellbound by the electronic world's endless scope for sound design.' All in all it's a pretty impressive debut, with the first single "A Tree" displaying an incredible sense for the audio spectrum on this emotive and multi-layered deep techno groove. "The Field" implements some dynamic low end theories amongst some rather dystopian atmospheric creations, while "Epoch Sinus ii" brings all these elements to a climax on this epic and captivating dark ambient masterpiece.

Review: This is the first in a series of two mini-compilations on Hotflush and is dedicated to Trevino, who died earlier this year. First up are German pair Glaskin, who drop the techy, stepping "Cosmic Dance Interlude", followed by Or:la with the deep but jacking "B.W.U.W". Ambivalent makes his Hotflush debut under his LA-4A guise to drop the jacking "How I Feel", with Terr's "Find A Way" occupying a relatively similar space. Label boss Scuba unleashes the noisy, primal techno of " Boulahrouz" under his SCB alias and Israeli producer Yotam Avni rounds off the first volume with the stripped back, minimal groove of "Baduk". This first instalment is a fitting tribute to the UK producer.

Review: Blursome first appeared on Locus Recordings, before dropping the track "Night" for Scuba's recent Fabriclive showdown, number 90 in the historic series. It was only natural that the label head would ask the young producer to fire of an EP for his label, and it's clear that Blursome has saved her best for it. Hands down. "A Little" kicks this six-tracker into motion with a rolling punch of hazy vocals, watery sonics, and a supremely tribalistic percussion, a mystic flow that is watered down beautifully on the considerably weirder "Let's Take Off My Hair". This EP certainly marks a change in style from the Hotflush bandwagon, further proved by the ominous, Burial-like movements of "Time", and the more techno-minded "Me". "Dream" wonders off into a blurry nightmare vision of what dubstep could be, while "Sleep" breaks out the power electronics, a move rarely seen before from Hotflush, but one that we're very much in tune with. An Excellent return to form.

Review: Last year saw Dense & Pika make Hotflush their home after Alex Jones and Christopher Spero's project first surfaced via a select few white label releases. Aside from a remix of the Woolford classic "Erotic Discourse", Dense & Pika have been notably quiet on the release front so this new four-track slab for Scuba's label will be most welcome. Already in possession of a warehouse-ready style of techno, the Klank EP suggests it's been further honed in their time away from the spotlight with the title cut a particularly weighty production that has a low end that growls like a dragon. From here the pair enter submerged depths on "Wandering Hands" before the B-side signals a return to more chaotic fare with "Slowhand" and "Slacker".

Review: Peter Lansky aka TML comes from the US, but as his debut release for Hotflush shows, he is influenced heavily by UK dance music. From the dreamy, hardcore-refencing opener "Face Pads", to the stepping "Strainer" -although admiteddly it does sample US police sirens rather British ones - to the 90s techno abstractions of "Code Library", No Memory, in spite of its title, suggests that Lansky has soaked up most UK electronic music reference points of the past 25 years. This is most evident on the release highlight, "Crying"; centred on rumbling break beats, its euphoric stabs and ectatsic vocals sound like a thowback to the second summer of love.

Review: The second volume of the Endeavours compilation starts with the artist it is dedicated to - Trevino. "Plugged" shows why the UK producer, who sadly passed away earlier this year, was held in such high esteem - its rich, dubby chords and swaggering groove sounding effortless. By contrast, Ambivalent delivers a rough, rugged take on jacking techno with "Supertouch" under his LA-4A guise, while Lando inhabits similar territory on the grimy "Ritual Track". There are emotions of a different nature audible on TML's "Crying (Piano Mix)", where euphoric keys and haunting vocals unfold over a rolling groove. Oliver Deutschmann provides the toughest, most frenetic track in the shape of the loopy techno "Sequel", while Scuba himself works as SCB to deliver the rough, sample-heavy techno of "Rolling SN".

Review: Having firmly established himself as a mainstay of the Hotflush family Locked Groove is back on the label once more with some of that ultra-modern 4/4 business. Interestingly "Enigma" points in some way back to the UK bass roots of Scuba's label with its grimey horn stabs, albeit in the context of a haunting house track. "Wandering In A Cage" is a more typically slick tech house jam with a dubby lilt to the synths and a brooding atmosphere for those who find the horns on "Enigma" too much. That said, it's the lead track that gets the remix treatment, first from Scuba who weaves a more wistful arrangement around those hooky stabs, before Locked Groove's own "Dub Mix" shuffles up the samples a touch for a different rhythmic flavour.

Review: Brothers in techno the Brockelmanns aka Glaskin return to Hotflush after last year's debut, Debris Disk. The pair kicks start Grey Lines with the militaristic swagger of "Objects", where spiky riffs and straight, marching drums give off an austere, cold sensibility. "Paralysis" sees the pair opt for a different approach, but it still retains a menacing undercurrent thanks to the severe, metallic percussion and brooding chord builds. The tempo and mood mellow somewhat on the title track, as robust break beats support chilling strings, but soon enough the German duo return to intense form with the pounding kicks of "Heliosphere" and the accompanying tranced out riffs.
