Review: Based in Perth, the world's most isolated big city, Diffused Signal's sound is nonetheless connecting with labels like Indistinct Approach and fans of hypnotic techno all over the world. As the title track demonstrates, Diffused Signal is influenced by the dubbed out end of Sandwell District's catalogue, but he also adds slightly abrasive percussive elements and droning undercurrents to create a unique sound. "Cors", with its stepping rhythm and acrid effects comes across like Oscar Mulero in reflective mode, while Diffused Signal picks up the pace on "Hast". More linear and direct than previous tracks, it's a pounding heads down affair that'll resonate right across the globe.
Review: Gean Farias aka Aske has been releasing techno for the past five years but Phocus could his finest release yet. Both the title track and "Abstraction" are pumping dance floor workouts that are populated by bleak tonal shifts and are supported by tough drums. Meanwhile on "Synaptic", the Brazilian producer goes for a more stripped back, left of centre stepper. "Polaris" sees Aske head into a direction that combines the best of Rob Hood's visceral minimalism with Mike Parker's bleepy, repetitive techno, while "Process" is a rougher, drum-heavy banger that would belong among the early catalogue of Swedish techno labels like Drumcode.
