Review: Experimental noise and drum and bass producer outta Hong Kong (but currently based in Bristol) Gyrofield arrives on London's Inspected label with Title Card, a three-track solo EP featuring the one extra collaboration with little known act, Latesleeper. With all matter of ripped, torn, screwed and chewed rhythms coming out of "FYDB" and "23nd", a very melodic and synth heavy "Silk" helps balance the EP alongside the glitchy, syncopated and minimal grooves of "Rosequartz". Clocked.
Review: Vellum's here and if you don't like it you'll be advised to swivel. Don't worry, with vibes these strong, raw and gully as these, you're guaranteed to like them. We kick off with the speed garage jammer "Swivel" featuring the classic MC tones of UKG OG Vapour before we're plunged into Vellum's twisted barbed bass world; "Landslide" is a gang-riding grime burner, "Vancouver Bass" flips the UKG bird while "Avenue" and "Fizzt" are all about soft-focus sultry two-step skips and "Braggard" just straight up decapitates. Swivellingly cheeky.
Review: Inspected boot up the genetic life form machine for some artificial funk and fury courtesy of a rollcall that should have any self-respecting tech-bass head salivating. First up is Bristol free-thinker Culprate who flips his successful "Diablo" into a crafty halftime stamper. Skope dons his Mallux cap for a BSE-level neuro romp that's home to around ten different bass textures that all work in harmony. Deeper again we hit the real leftfield sages: Billain's "Specialist" tips a nod to the rave foundations before dropping into a raffish groove that gets subtly weirder and weirder as we progress while Posij gets animated with a zoo of rising tones and textures that seem to run out control before being reigned in again. 23rd century funk.
