Review: Chris Royal continues his fantastically energetic start to 2018 with a straight bass banger. This one, entitled 'Thump' does everything it says on the tin, bringing crispy percussive melodies to the forefront of the piece coupled nicely with thick rolling sub basses and skippy drum patterns. This is a perfect example of where the creative corners of bass music are expanding to, incorporating new instruments and atmospheric breakdowns which completely enhance the overall experience. Oh yeah and who doesn't love a euphoric build up?
Review: To be a successful Mafioso in a world of street tuff beats, you gotta be hard. Good job then, that Breaksmafia are hard as nails. Here we have a quick one -two attack, with "Put Em Up" getting in first with stadium-sized ghetto beats and epic rave breakdowns. "Let Me In" is even more lively: with bouncing subs, laser-beam effects and Prodigy-esque vocals.
Review: Germany's ghetto bass hero Marten Horger is a regular staple on the Punks label, but here his anthem Lets get F***ed Up gets er, f***ked up by someone else on another label instead. That someone just happens to be Breaks Mafia, who delivers a remix that takes in tough classic Nevins-style bouncy breaks with shrill and trancey EDM melodies that are guaranteed to get feet on dancefloors from here to outer space and back.
Review: The legendary Dynamite MC teams up with the master of nu-skool breaks Krafty Kuts for the new massive track "Real Big Deal" which finally drops after being rinsed all Summer. Bleepy, bumping and funky, this tough beat hammers away beneath Dynamite's exclamation that 'you feel like a real big deal!' The power of the word indeed! A great piece of work by two legends of the scene and hope to hear more collaborations from these two!
Review: Still high on the success of recent rave-tastic single Fall Down, veteran breakbeaters Freestylers now unveil some choice remixes. The job has been handed to the anonymous Pirate Jams who turn in two killer reworks. First up, "Fall Down" gets boosted with chunky beats with the original's rave stab stabs and diva vocals on top. Next "Falling" sees break beats, poppy keyboards and melodies colliding in fine style.
Review: Instant Vibes have secured a coup here - a one-off collaboration between two key nu-skool breaks producers - Krafty Kuts and Jason Laidback. The results are smokin' with "Woofers In The Trunk' being a tough edged funker with pulsating bass, beefed up big-beats and a nonchalant drawl. Badass!
Review: Combine sounds similar to Mr Oizo's "Flatbeat" with the gnarly snarl of what Russian producer Proxy makes with a sense of cloud pleasing antics and Karfty Kuts' "Bang Bang" is, no doubt about it - a certified banger. There's licks of electro-funk in "The Wasp" with touches of newer breakbeat styles you could compare with The Prodigy, however the 'what!' and 'stealin the flow' vocal samples have got Krafty Kuts written all over it. Huge two-track.
Review: Breakbeat titans the Freestylers tap into their rave roots for a swinging slice of rolling party business. With a classic detuned synth hook, surging urging female rave vox, cheeky horn samples and a b-boy breakbeat torn from the good book of big beat, if your floor ain't shifting to this they won't shift to anything. Currently working on a brand new live show and album, something tells us the summer of 2015 will have Freestylers plastered all over it.
