Review: Terrence Parker returns to the scene after an eight-year hiatus with his latest EP, "Sounds of Love", released on Intangible Soundworks. The EP opens with the previously unreleased re-edit, "Help Is On The Way". This classic Detroit house track features a driving organ, intense hi-hats, and a pumped-up choir, transporting listeners back to the golden age of house music. "Tonight We Luv" is another standout track, featuring soulful vocals and a driving bassline. The track's intricate arrangements and infectious groove make it a perfect dancefloor anthem. "I Love You (More Than You Know)" is a more melodic track, featuring a beautiful vocal and a relentless techno backbeat. The instrumental version of this track offers a harder, deeper, and more analog feel. "Sounds of Love" is a must-listen for fans of classic Detroit house music. Parker's masterful production and infectious grooves make this EP a timeless addition to any collection.
Review: No one but no one does piano-led house like the mighty Terrence Parker, and this writer will fight anyone who says otherwise! Here, he returns on his own Intangible Soundworks with a track that's served up in simple Original and Radio Edit versions. 'She Always Makes Me Dance' centres, unsurprisingly, on a nagging piano riff that's augmented by a matching organ line, underpinned by an understated bassline and simple 4/4 kicks, and topped with a jazz-funk guitar line and a chanted "something about me, she always makes me dance" vocal. File under "simple but effective".
Review: Arguably just at home on our Deep House pages, this two-tracker has a classic US house feel - little wonder, given that DJ MoReese hails from the Motor City and cites the likes of Dennis Ferrer, Terrence Parker and Kevin Saunderson as influences. 'Glory' has a descending synth riff front and centre, married to funk horn stabs and urgent vocal snips, while the accompanying 'Lincoln Street Hustle' rocks a jerkier, Madhouse-esque vibe, with a stuttering b-line, cut-up fem vox and pianos that could have come from the mighty TP himself. The latter nudges it for yours truly - but only just, because both cuts are straight out of the top drawer.
Review: Intangible Records & Soundworks is a Detroit based label run by the legendary Terrence Parker. In operation since the mid '90s, the imprint has brought out some great music in the last year (in particular) with tracks by the likes of label staple DJ MoReese plus Gunbee & Merachka. Parker serves up one of his most powerful and poignant anthems yet, in the form of "Rejection" with its important message conveyed via powerful and jacked up diva vocals over all the the trademarks of his sound: funky basslines, shimmering synths and ultra tight rhythms.
Review: This is one of very few remix EP's where the tracks sound fully distinguishable from the originals. The techno light remix has a heavy sound, with a forward moving momentum, if Andrew Lloyd Webber did a Techno musical this should be the opening number. The 'Victory' mix is slower, smoother and sexier, it's a happy sounding track, the kind of kid friendly sounds you hear on the bumper cars, but the breathy vocal takes into the PG zone. The 'Miracle' mix is altogether more grown up and radiates warm Balearic vibes.
