Future Sight EP
Review: The intrigue continues at Integral as the anonymous outfit Tatora return to Artificial Intelligence's label with another brace of barbed soul gems. 'Faded' sets the scene with a perfect balance of big breezy synths and alluring vocal textures before 'All Went Wrong' gets super sexy on a glistening guitar tip and a dusty old jazzy dnb vibe that sits somewhere between Redeyes and Utah Jazz. 'Nightmares' brings a little more ice into the mix with a wintry feel that rises in a way that could make Seba blush. Finally we have 'Broken Hearted'. A fittingly sober piece to sign out of 2020, this music will mend us as we march into the future...

Still Hope
Review: We wrote about the first single from this EP last week and the full thing is now here, with Fluidity staying true to his name across four sumptuously deep rollers that will tickle the itch of any liquid head who likes things sophisticated. It's Integral, after all, and the standards are high. 'Yes Or No' is top quality, with gorgeously smooth strings that provide a backdrop of instrumentation to the soulful vocal sample and delightfully crisp drum work. It's a subtle track with oodles of character. 'End Game' is darker, with a distorted, rolling bassline that morphs into a wobbling sub bass, whilst 'Hold Tight' is more of the ethereal style we've come to expect from Integral. Gorgeous.

Still Hope - (5:39) 172 BPM
Review: Liquid maestro Fluidity is back on Integral to push his typically fantastic brand of soulful drum & bass, and this single does exactly what you would expect from a label as consistent as Integral. Fluidity has nailed the vibe Artificial Intelligence go for, with floating vocal samples and a spacious, luxurious feel to the arrangement on 'Still Hope'. It's proper liquid drum & bass - no frills.

4Lyfe
Review: Satl is the Polish producer who is now firmly established in the top echelons of liquid, especially so following his sumptuous outing on the North Quarter last year, and his tendency to opt for longer projects is seeing its next iteration on 4Lyfe, an eight-track extended player on Artificial Intelligence's Integral. It's yet more dreamy, wispy music and Satl is one step closer to mastering the art of element-light but vibes-heavy music, a potent style with a long legacy in AI themselves, as well as Lenzman or Calibre. 4Lyfe spans both light and dark, with the soaring vocal notes of 'So Much Better' touching heartstrings, whilst 'Yin' is a furiously stripped back rattler that gets things done on the darker end. Genre defining stuff.

Melancholy City EP
Played by: Nelver, Dexcell
Review: If you've been following Integral this past year or two, you'll know that Artificial Intelligence have really taken a liking to the wispy, atmospheric and rolling side of the liquid they've contributed so much towards. Edlan & Djah are two artists they've taken under their wing in recent times and, following both of their debuts on other respective releases, they've teamed up here for the Melancholy City EP. This is vintage stuff, especially the title track, which combines powerful yet subtle ambience with a driving sense of purpose, the drums are precise and the whole thing is wrapped up nice and tightly. Excellent stuff from two young Dutchmen.

The Series/Outtakes
Review: Artificial Intelligence wrap up their album-sized project The Series with a fourth and final dispatch "Outtakes". While outtakes are usually the sole preserve of bloopers and things not good enough for the final cut, here we find Glen and Zula in flip mode as they serve up some of their tastiest dishes of the whole project banquet. "Even Though" ripples like the most soulful tide you've ever dipped your toes in, "Inwards" soothes with a layers of textured vocal elements, "Tainted Soul" is a trip beyond the known universe on a rocket made of sadness while "Masonics" sends us packing with unhealthy doses of lilting pianos and rumbling subs. Classic AI business through and through.

The Series
Review: Integral by label name, integral to the scene full stop: Glenn and Zula's AI partnership has been a prominent and consistent voice since the early 2000s. Since 2010 we've seen them dig deep into the album artform with Stand Alone kicking off a slew of LPs, currently climaxing with The Series. Delivered over four parts - two last year, two this year - the full set spans their full gamut touching deep daydream rollers such as "Savour" to much darker, heavyweight pieces such as "Isolate". Each made for the club but executed with depth and restraint to that lends itself to any scenario, it's a great way to sign out of this decade and prime us for what's to come. Integral by nature.

GLOW/4
Review: Artificial Intelligence's Integral brings out our inner glow with their consistently-impressive new V/A series. Satl (who's appeared on every "Glow" so far) kicks off with a long-awaited remix of dBridge's classic lament "So Lonely" he debuted at Sun & Bass in 2018. He's backed up all the way by key label friends and affiliates: Facing Jinx and Soligen get all dreamy on the dark subby roller "So Much To Do" while Dexcell weave multiple instrument layers with sweeping waves of emotion above a pretty dark, foreboding bassline. Finally Macca & Vector wind down proceedings with the star-leaping intergalactic soul hurricane finale "All The Time". Unleash your inner glow...

All You Know EP
Played by: Nelver
Review: Artificial Intelligence's Integral label is a scene leader is releasing atmospheric yet driving liquid D&B, the evidence for which is truly bountiful if you take one quick flick through their prestigious back catalogue. Air.K & Cephei now have their first full length release on their label, a four-tracker that is grounded in lighter sonics but isn't afraid to take things a bit darker when it feels like it. Title track 'All U Know' is the ideal example, with a pop-influenced vocal that sits beautifully above its rolling exterior and a heavy second drop to die for. Fellow label member Edlan also makes an appearance, rounding off what is a typically strong EP from the camp.

Can't Hide EP
Review: Hot on the heels of Phil:osophy's latest treasure trove comes another bounty of bliss from Artificial Intelligence's Integral. This time with old friends Zero T and longstanding vocalist Steo. "Can't Hide" is pure soul heaven; delicate layers of Steo's harmonies arranged softly over a spacious beat and lilting pianos, it's T and Steo at their most evocative and feel-heavy. "Make Time" kicks with more urgency as techno-like synths stab hypnotically, balanced by Steo's falsettos and gently rising instrumentation. Elsewhere the unstoppable Monty gives their evergreen 2016 soul-out "Too Close To See" a bittersweet twist. There's no hiding from this one.

Meditation EP
Review: Phil:osophy is the combination of Phil Tangent and Philth, so it's not especially surprising that at least 90% of their music is straight up incredible and the blend of their respective light-dark specialities makes itself constantly apparent. This is their third EP on Artificial Intelligence's Integral Records, an imprint perfectly suited to what they've come out with here: four cuts of wispy, intelligent and emotive liquid. 'Consequence' sticks out, with a growling bass that slowly creeps in and an instantly recognisable sample of guitar licks and upbeat, samba vibes. Proper roller, proper liquid.

Tree Of Life EP
Review: Edlan is back. He's back! The Dutch boy wonder has first full length release on the legendary Integral Records, Artifical Intelligence's label and an imprint which is dedicated to the purveying of high-quality liquid and rolling beats. Alumni include Lenzman and Alix Perez, so Edlan is in good company. He clearly deserves to be there though, the production levels are through the roof on this one and it's definitely his best work. A lovely addition is the fearsome 'Tree of Life', the heavy track on the EP and a Dawn Wall-esque banger which rolls out deliciously. Bigups Edlan.

GLOW/3
Review: Last year Artificial Intelligence's Integral Records started a new series - Glow - which aims to showcase some of the best forthcoming talent in the Integral radar, as well as music from some of their more established roster acts. We're now in the third instalment and the series is still going strong. Edlan & Djah are two very exciting young Dutch talents and their tune 'Fragile' is typical Integral: wispy pads, featherweight drums and serious sense of ambience. French maestro Redeyes also makes an appearance in similar fashion with 'I Can't Wait', a gorgeous piece of sampling work and precise melodic construction that rolls out for days. Fluidity and Integral regular Satl hold up the rear and they do it well - make sure you check this.

Universal Sigh EP
Review: Phil Tangent is one of the all-time greats of the liquid scene, with a career spanning many years and multiple labels. But regardless of how many imprints he's been featured on, Integral is a record label that suits his sound so sublimely it's hard to believe. Universal Sigh is the latest and WHAT a release. The title track is a contender for tune of the year, an eight-minute long odyessy of soaring strings, luscious pads and a tangible feeling of warmth and depth that seeps through every crack. This track is so good that the others almost get overshadowed, which is sad because they're also incredible; 'Miskol' has a funky, dip-dive bassline that'll get you moving for sure; 'Sequoia's sultry piano keys remind of Calibre whilst its rolling drums carry you off into the vocal sample. An outstanding release.

The Series: Season 2
Review: Artificial Intelligence and their very own Integral Records are to liquid D&B what hydrogen is to the universe - everywhere. Their unique brand of soulful, rolling music has given unforgettable moments to so many, both in terms of their own productions as well as on their label. The Series: Season 2 is the latest, a four-tracker that exemplifies their sound with pure style. 'B.A.D.A' is wispy and emotional; 'Waiting Room' combines a luscious vocal with intricate depth; 'Smoke Screens' is pulsating, wide and full of ambience; 'Boxed In' fills up the range with dream-worthy pads and crisp percussive lines. This EP is an essential for anyone who loves their D&B on the lighter end of the spectrum.

Everything To Me EP
Review: Polish soul merchant Satl is back on his new-found home Integral Records with his now recognisable blend of deepness and funkiness. A five-tracker of sublime proportions, 'Everything To Me' is a deserving title track, combining a delicate vocal line with Alix Perez-esque featherweight percussion. The depth carries on over into 'Never Knew', a swirling dive down into liquid's most relaxing neighbourhood that stays with you the whole way. 'Rattler' is the most unique; an amalgamation of pointed stabs and percussive hits that smacks of Skeptical's 'Imperial' or Perez's 'Raven' in its sheer complexity and creative dynamism. 'The Sleep' and 'Each Day' finish off the EP with a return to Satl's trademark sound and the vocal line on both are gorgeous, each nested into a backing mirage of wistful pads and dreamy ambience. An exceptionally strong release.
