Review: Following on from his debut album for the label last year, Scott Gilmore returns to International Feel with Another Day. Gilmore states that before recording the songs here, he had never worked on music with the knowledge that it would be released. All of his music thus far was made in a state of solitude, finding his comfort zone there because it is easier to work freely and without any inhibitions. Having recently completed a live tour across Europe, he's back with four more lush and life affirming journeys. From the deep slo-mo disco funk of "Electric Gestures", the oriental cosmic ambient of "Lately" or the spacey psychedelica of the title track - it's all rather splendid really.

Review: International Feel's mini album series seems to explore the space between world beat, balearic and library music. Here, L.A's Pharaohs 'have imagined a place far from the city' on their first release for Mark Barrott's esteemed imprint. Co-founder Sam Cooper has stated that we were influenced by a surfing book by photographer Michael Kew and that a lot of the music was inspired by his travels in the South Pacific and its imagery: an idea of what it would sound like if they were actually there themselves. Cooper met co-founder Ale Cohen in Amoeba Music and the pair started jamming in the late noughties. Diego Herrera (aka Suzanne Kraft) was an original member but now resides in Europe, preventing him from collaborating, moving forward. But still, some of his playing can be heard on the album. Casey Butler aka Stellar Rahim, is the fourth member, who studied composition at CalArts.

Review: As summer splutters towards its conclusion, Phillip Lauer and Fabrizio Mammarella once again join forces for some "retro-Balearic" house action as Black Spuma. They begin in confident fashion, layering up bubbly acid lines, grandiose, loved-up chords and mid '80s Pet Shop Boys style melodies via the on-point title track. The Tennant/Lowe influenced is explored further on the superb "Ceephab" - think electro/acid/saucer-eyed synth-pop fusion - while "No Cube" is an undulating, 115 BPM acid wriggler (albeit with some spine-tingling piano motifs). To round things off, the German/Italian twosome drops a fine chunk of warehouse-friendly, mid-tempo new beat/proto-rave fusion. In other words, it's analogue-rich business as usual.

The Pathways Of Our Lives - (7:15) 93 BPM Hot

Review: International Feel boss Mark Barrott steps away from the the Balearic sounds he has been exploring of late to take a journey back to territory first explored with Bepu N'Gali back in 2012. "The Pathways Of Our Lives" is slo-mo (and very lo-slung!) Afro soul that continues Barrott's fixation with African polyrhythms and 70's style Philly strings. He has worked with a full band: The Grunewald Quartet return to string duties after collaborating on Barrott's Sketches from an Island 2 album last year. Second offering recorded live during one of his spring meditation sessions in Northern Ibiza, with India's Vishnu Quartet performing a 2 hour piece: be prepared for Jon Hassell style Fourth World aesthetics: very nice.

Review: Californian Scott's Gilmore's debut is reminiscent of pre 'Moon Safari' Air according to International Feel, run by electronic music scene veteran Mark Barrott. A wonderful concoction of yard sale instrumentation, Walker Brothers style guitar, offbeat refrains and self made synthesizers. This was created with a truly different sense of perspective, from a musician seeming to exist outside of time and the scene. It's a travelogue of the timeless and gently obscure, a bunch of rarities all in one place, at one time, woven together with an accomplished sense of harmony, counterpoint and vision. A beautiful album from start to finish.

Review: Three years on from his first Talamanca System collaboration with Tuff City Kids duo Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer, Mark Barrott gets the gang back together for an album of typically loved-up excursions. International Feel's eccentric press release describes it as "a sunburned imagination of a day and night spent on Ibiza during a moment in time that probably never was". Given the album's repeated nods to baggy, piano-laden Italian house, the saucer-eyed, sunrise-friendly brilliance of 808 State's "Pacific State", sun-kissed post Italo-disco chuggers, percussion-laden tropical workouts and head-in-the-clouds ambience, it's actually rather an apt description. It's shamelessly Balearic from start to finish, but pulls it off with an authenticity that others could only dream of.

Review: Talamanca System are the unlikely trio of Gerd Janson, Phillip Lauer of Tuff City Kids and International Feel boss Mark Barrott. Their sole release in late 2014 became one of the best selling on the Iabel's imprint. My Past Is Your Future brings them back together for a trio of magical productions that harness the power of their production skills and winks at a forthcoming album coming on the imprint this summer. Its' deep balearica cum ambient house on the wonderfully ethereal "My Past Is Your Future" and in proper ambient style there's a truly wonderful "Beatless Stars In Space" mix which is perfect for drifting. Finally the "Chukka Chukka Dance Mix" has Tuff City Kids written all over this this neon-lit retro house mix which is just totally off the hook in its own right!

Review: Shelter began his production career re-editing quirky cuts of a Balearic persuasion, before dropping a fine collection of original tracks on Uber last autumn. That set of woozy, horizontal gems clearly impressed International Feel boss Mark Barrott, as he's decided to release the French producer's debut album. Zon Zon Zon is arguably a little more varied than some may expect, with Shelter combining his usual new age inspired melodies and tropical flavours with nods to rubbery, post-disco pop, dub, woozy ambient and the kind of fluid, sun-baked electronica that defies easy categorization. However you describe it, Zon Zon Zon is mightily impressive, delivering a near perfect blend of electronic and acoustric instrumentation.

Review: International Feel main man Mark Barrott is back with another great bunch of sublime imaginary soundtracks that are just perfect for drifting. On International Preence, forget the world right now and disappear to a riviera paradise where 'all's good' on "Schopenhaueras Garden","Mokush" the takes you to the East and introduces dome Oriental style melodies and aesthetics with soothing bell tones and gentle rhythm arrangements. Finally Lysaner" is the albums most melancholic moment for sure but undoubtedly bittersweet in all its emotive wonder. Review: Much praise was heaped on the 2015 debut EP from Black Spuma, a "retro Balearic" collaboration between prolific Frankfurt producer Phil Lauer and Slow Motion man Fabrizio Mammarella. Unsurprisingly, Onda is similarly inclined; check, for example, the synthesized marimba melodies, dreamy pads and Sueno Latino-era Italian deep house groove of "Metallo Nero", or the gentle Adriatic breeze that is "Hundred Fingers Man". The superb title track sees them upping the tempo and intensity a little whilst retaining their core values (melody, groove, and eyes-closed vibes), while closer "Gabula" sees them change tack, lacing rubbery TB-303 acid lines over a swinging breakbeat and whizzing electronic effects.

Review: It's been a fine year for Mark Barrott's International Feel with the Jose Padilla album an undoubted centrepiece. The Ibiza label aren't quite done for the year however, with Lingua Franca from Len Leise marking the onset of a series of mini-album projects from International Feel aimed around a loose concept for artists to "show more of who they are musically without the constraints of the traditional album format." Few had heard of Leise until he was featured on International Feel last year, but the Australian has gone on to score a rather fine record for the like-minded Aficionado operation as well as contribute to that killer Paradise Goulash mix from Prins Thomas. Some seven tracks deep, Lingua Franca finds Leise crafting "an imaginary journey based on real experiences," with Morocco, Spain, Russia, India and Brazil providing the inspiration for the clearly well-travelled musician. Sumptuous Balearica is of course the order of the day, with the occasional dalliance into something a bit more dancefloor appropriate ("O Caminho"), and ensures Lingua Franca is a fine start for a series that promises contributions from Gatto Fritto, CFCF and Wolf Muller.

Review: International Feel's recently launched mini album series continues, with long-serving downtempo producer CFCF delivering his vision of a lazy Balearic holiday. Sitting somewhere between Jose Padilla, Joan Bibiloni, and Gigi Masin's collaborations with Templehof, the extended player's eight tracks bristle with authentic live instrumentation, most notably jazzy guitars, soft-focus acoustics, reflective pianos and humid accordions. These are effortlessly blended with subtle electronics to create sun-kissed, early morning mood pieces that undoubtedly define the Balearic, after-hours experience. What's most striking about On Vacation, though, is just how beautiful it is. At times, it's breathtakingly stunning.

Review: You can just imagine the excitement at International Feel HQ when Phillip Lauer and Fabrizio Mammarella told boss Mark Barrott that they'd recorded an EP together under the Black Spuma guise. Predictably, it's a rather fine set, delivering a quartet of warm, rich, analogue-heavy tracks that doff a cap to early Italian deep house, and the colourful, loose-limbed, emotion-stirring vibe of Balearica. There's much to admire, from the skittish drums, electrofunk bass and melancholic synth-pop chords of "Black Spuma", and slap bass-infused drum machine chug of "Emozioni Miste", to the rolling, basement-friendly goodness of the impeccable "Hype Around", whose sharp synth motifs work in perfect unison with the duo's dreamy chords and freestyle-inspired vocal stabs.

Review: Berlin based trio follow up a well received last EP on Mark Barrot's International Feel with another killer release. You'd be forgiven for thinking that title track "Paralysed" is a seventies re-issue but it's not and goes to show just how well these guys can capture the authentic Balearic vibes of yesteryear. "Little Bird" offers more of the same with its soaring strings funk bass and guitar capturing the zeitgeist yet again. But wait, there's more; in the form of the Tuff City Kids remix of "Paralysed" giving it their typical treatment of hands in the air piano rolls, epic Arp strings and infectious arpeggio on this absolute dancefloor bomb.

Review: International Feel's love-in with Balearic veteran Jose Padilla continues, as So Many Colours album track "Lollipop" gets the remix treatment. Padilla kicks things off by delivering an extended, 12"-friendly version, where sun-kissed pianos, twittering synth-flutes and - of course - hazy guitars wrap themselves around a tactile Balearic disco groove. The accompanying remixes are of an impressively high standard, with Dream 2 Science's drifting, soft touch deep house remake - every bit as luscious, analogue-rich and evocative as his early '90s productions - really impressing. French maverick I:Cube delivers two reworks; a straightforward Remix that adds a little warehouse-friendly bump whilst retaining Padilla's gorgeous melodies, and the looser, baggier "Casiotone Reprise".

Here Gerd Janson and Phil Lauer go to town on the track twice under their Tuff City Kids alias, offering up a pair of diverse remixes that are aimed for the club spaces. The Private Acid remix lives up to its name with the German pair treating that vocal to some excellent looping tactics whilst the Garage Dub sees them call on the spirit of classic New York house. Complementing this, while Testpressing type Apiento teams up with Lexx for a remix that ups the chug factor markedly.

What makes So Many Colours particularly special is the fact Padilla got the chance to work with Barrott, Running Back affiliate Telephones, Australian producer Tornado Wallace and Jan 'Wolf Muller' Schulte, a list of artists that share a common approach to the idea and concept of being Balearic. As you would expect, copious amounts of fluttering beats, Spanish guitar strumming and deep throbbing arpeggiated basslines feature throughout So Many Colours and it's really a pleasure from beginning to end!

Review: The always on-point International Feel Recordings - stronghold for the very best in all things disco and Balearic - drops Mark Barrott softmore release with a new EP after having put out the man's debut mini LP last summer. While that was more on a downtempo tip, "Bush Society" is a slow-burning disco chugger that is full of purring bass and tropical percussion twists. Instead, "Saviours Or Savages" is considerably tamer, less preoccupied with steady beats and a whole lot looser around the edges thanks to its wonky melodies, broken beats and desolate strings. This is somewhat of a tip, people!

Review: Long-standing Japanese house ambassador Gonno return to the mighty International Feel family. And he's done so with three full-flavoured creative departures: "Obscurant" is like standing under a powerful waterfall. Refreshing, stimulating but dangerously strong that you may well lose your footing. "A Life With Clarinet", meanwhile, is a firing breakbeat jazz number that sits somewhere between S.P.Y and Bonobo. Finally Houndstooth's Call Super calms us down with a deep, dubby tech twist on "Obscurant" that switches the original's howling gales to a misty sea breeze.

Review: The notion of Jose Padilla releasing an album on International Feel makes perfect sense, the two go together like Bogart and Bacall. Last year the Cafe Del Mar legend appeared on Mark Barrott's label with Solito and this set the wheels in motion for an album by Padilla that remains under wraps for now. A taste of what is to come arrives in the shape of Day One, a release that sees Padilla working with Norwegian producer Telephones (a man who has his own LP due on Running Back) and it has set opener written indeliably into it's DNA. Few other tracks this week pack as much vivid detail and colour into them as the eight minutes of "Day One" do and Telephones achieves similar levels of magic on his accompanying Club Dub.

Review: Mark Barrott's International Feel label seems to be going from strength to strength. Certainly, this debut single from previously unknown combo Private Agenda - a trio known only as Martin, Sean and Nick - is amongst the label's strongest releases to date. "Deja vu", in particular, is superb, with snaking synth lines and an early George Michael style vocal reclining over dreamy chords, electrofunk synths and a breezy, mid '80s Balearic pop groove. Virtual flipside "Freefalling" is similarly impressive, with twittering bird noises, enveloping pads and slack-jawed vocals rubbing shoulders with sun-kissed melodies and shuffling electronic percussion. In truth, both tracks sound like the sort of thing Alfredo would have championed back in 1986 - high praise for those who sway, eyes closed and smiling, to the Balearic beat.

Review: This marks the debut of Double Knots. You may not recognise the name, but you already know the constituents: Toby Tobias and Daniel Mode. Setting out with the simple premise to make music that tickles your head as much as your feet, the pair have struck sonic gold. "Remote Control Memory" is a bubbling groove infinity pool that stares out to a sun that never quite sets, "Double Vision" is slightly more upbeat with more of a dancefloor twist that's not dissimilar to Prins Thomas's early work while "Vital Connection" flies us off into the very top of earth's atmosphere on a sumptuous bed of synths and percussive elements. Beautifully blurry.

Review: Everyone loves a good story behind a record and few come with a more interesting narrative than this debut (and perhaps only) Talamanca System 12". The story goes that Gerd Janson and Phil Lauer were enjoying the Ibizan hospitality of International Feel boss Mark Barrot last summer, to the extent they were both gifted his unused Studio Electronics 'Boomstar 303' synth. Eager to repay such a lavish favour, Janson offered to remix a track Barrot was working on, an offer which eventually resulted in this 12". Four versions of "Balanzat" feature here, with an original, acid reflux, Tuff City Kids refix and ambient reprise to choose from. If this is the only Talamanca System record we will see it's a shame as it's a mighty fine addition to the International Feel discography.

Review: The release notes for Joel Hood's debut on International Feel quote label boss Mark Barrott as stating they have "released just about every style of music (cos we're Balearic) except Dreamy Pop....which of course is well Balearic, so here's Joel Hood to bliss y'all out". There's certainly a whimsical quality to the four tracks that make up Gone, with the vocals of the North Yorkshire-based newcomer a key element, weaving in amidst the tropical landscape of his productions. Mixed up with a multitude of samples and some decidedly heady '80s dance pop production, the results feel gloriously removed from current trends and at times really sublime, as on the somewhat humorously titled "Pissholes In The Snow". If you can imagine Caribou going Balearic you will love this.

Review: International Feel returns with the re-release of a record that inspired the label's foundation in Punta Del Este, Uruguay back in 2009. Originally released back in 2008 on the rarely seen and now seemingly dormant Misericord label, "Boutade" by Belgian duo Mugwump was exclaimed by the revered Bill Brewster as "one of the tracks of the noughties" and listening back to the thick acid bassline, slightly over the top orchestration and a chugging 107BPM groove now it's hard not to disagree. It certainly sounds as ripe for the modern disco floors as it did some 5 years ago, and this new edition also sees Mugwump turn in a "2103 Techno Redux" which isn't necessarily techno but does update the track.

Review: Last year's compilation to celebrate three years of International Feel felt like label boss Mark Barrott was drawing a line under some memorable 36 releases from Harvey, Gatto Fritto, Gonno and more which in his own words achieved what he set out to do. It's pleasing then, to see that Barrott has elected to let International Feel grow further introducing yet another of his own musical projects in the shape of The Sonic Aesthetic. Now based in Ibiza, its clear the Mediterranean sun is having beneficial effects on Barrott with the three tracks here operating on a murky' lo BPM subterranean house flex. Face up track "Mendicant Adventures" is the clear stand out here, feeling like the hazy memories of a warehouse party slowly setting in concrete.

Flights Of Fancy Vol 1
Love's A Dancer - (5:45) 100 BPM Hot
Tempo Of The Night - (9:04) 74 BPM
Review: Forever the horizontally inclined innovators, International Feel introduce a mild curveball in their direction with Flights of Fancy, a new series showcasing what Balearic should sound like - through the custom made Ear Dimension Filters they employ on the coastline of Punta Del Este of course. The identity of those behind Flights of Fancy remains a mystery, as does so much with International Feel, but regardless both tracks present adopt a vintage discofied aesthetic that will find a place in many a heart. "Love's A Dancer" comes across like a forgotten Moroder gem given the Noid recordings treatment, whilst the altogether more widescreen vision of Balearica that is "Tempo Of The Night" positively glides towards the runout groove.

Review: On ACDise # 2, Gonno follows in the footsteps of maverick Japanese labels and producers like Sublime and Ken Ishii. The title track delivers a superlative slice of deep techno as Gonno combines warbling acid lines with trippy chords. On "Made From Muddy Water" and "Turn to Light", he shows that he's made from the same kind of hyperactive creativity as his predecessors, with the former a languid guitar-led soundscape, while fragile melodies unfold over clipped beats on the latter. The remixes don't disappoint either. Gatto Fritto's take on the title track features lazy, acid-soaked break beats, while the Skudge reshape is brilliantly utilitarian, the acid line soldered to the duo's typical dense, loopy rhythms.

Review: Given the sheer number of British artists releasing on International Feel, we're beginning to think that a free trip to Punta Del Este is offered as part of any record deal. The latest to potentially be soaking up the rays on the South Atlantic coast of Uruguay are The Mythical Beasts aka Felix Dickinson and Toby Tobias. If either of these names needs an introduction then back to those disco night classes with you! As The Mythical Beasts, Dickinson and Tobias present an altogether more lackadaisical sound, with "Communicate" fully channelling the sound of 80s Dutch icon Jan Hammer. This wouldn't be an Intl. Feel twelve without some fine accompanying remixes and we are suitably stocked with a variety of takes from Permanent Vacation, Alphabet City and Das Volt. The Munich duo lead the way with a tight tropical disco take that ups the pace and focuses on a particularly introspective xylophone melody whilst Alphabet City demonstrates the recent Under The Shade twelve was no fluke with a chunky yet glistening electro funk reimagination. Our personal favourite though is the spooked out Giallo disco take from Late Night Audio's Das Volt, although the digi-only Brennan Green remix is a bit special too!

Review: The album format suits some artists more than others. On this evidence, it's a snug fit for producer Ben Williams' Gatto Fritto project. Like his previous exemplary 12" singles for Dissident, Electric Minds and International Feel, this self-titled debut album quietly tiptoes between claustrophobic paranoia and dream-like bliss - on some occasions even within the same track (the calming and uneasy "Solar Flares Burn You"). These central themes underpin a beautiful and occasionally unsettling mix of tracks that draws on everything from Radiophonic Workshop synth-experimentation, classic Balearica and evocative ambience to smacked-out pop (see "The Curse" and "Lucifer Morning Star"), evocative ambience and groggy new wave disco.
