Grounded (original mix) - (5:30) 140 BPM
Review: The Iron Shirt Recordings team have a fantastic ability to unearth and present gems in the best way possible, with this new drop from With Bear being a perfect example of an album doing just that. Featuring 16 tracks, the project explores the deepest and darkest realms of the dubstep spectrum, across both fierce originals and writhing remixes. Original wise, there are some truly awesome designs to be found, from the swampy synth lines of 'Coyote Stories' to synthetic melody fusions of 'To Walk In Beauty' and 'Every Lifeform'. As well as this, the project is blessed with a number of vibrant reworks, with our highlights included Internal Frequency's sizzling overhaul of 'Western Culture', next to Leon Switch's chilling overhaul of 'Grounded'. Top stuff!

Review: It's always an exciting time when an in-form label such as Iron Shirt Recordings is ready to touch down with a fiery display of album prowess, which is exactly what we see here. Graysound has stepped up and delivering a truly wonderful collection for his 'Champion Sound' project, featuring a large amount of epic vocal features from the likes of Young Gho$t, Rains, Rider Shafique & Natty Campbell. The project is great showcase of just how far Graysounds production ability has come, from the moody sub sweeps of 'Cigar' to the systematic sub marches of 'Who Dat' and the glitchy synthetics of 'Jester'. Our highlights of the project would have to include the vocal displays however, with Natty's hypnotic vocal mastery on 'Talk Bout Life' and Rider Shafiques epic performance the title track 'Champion Sound' being our two major standouts.

Review: As always with Iron Shirt Recordings, they have brought us a serious box of weight as they welcome Dubmentalist inside for a dizzying display of dubwise delights, unleashing 15 originals, all sizzling with original flavour, ranging from the weird and wonderful to the downright disgusting, exploring a wide spectrum of dubstep influences to be enjoyed by all. From the murky backdrops of 'Blacksmith' and quirky metallic designs of 'Tetrahedron' to the high energy 4x4 slaps of 'Riddim Of 4' and crunchy LFO one-drops of 'Cyber Lovers', this is a truly masterful collection of dubstep heat. Our favourites for this one have to include the gorgeous harmonic layering of 'Deep Fields' & 'Misty Morning', alongside the apocalyptic notation and gnarly synth design of 'The Concrete Beast'. Awesome work!

ISR Compilation Volume V

L Nix - "Fuck Up" - (4:41) 140 BPM
Kilbourne - "Nomad" - (4:36) 140 BPM
Review: If there is one thing that we could never criticise about the Iron Shirt Recordings team, it's their consistency, with a bulging catalogue of original bassy slammers, they always seem to hit the nail on the head. This latest compilation plays testament to that as they unleash the fifth edition of their 'ISR' series, welcoming back a host of dubstep heavyweights, including L Nix, Roklem & Sebalo, Jaswan and more. The whole feel of the project revolves around system-ready rollers, welcoming a host of exciting newer names to the table at the same time, all of whom deliver the goods. For us, there are a few real highlights, with the clunky, clock-like drum ticks and lethal bass crunches of Basura & Dalek One's 'Pure Destruction', next to the eastern melodic flicks and grizzly synthesiser pulses of 'Ruffhouse' from JWire and the intense drum triplets of Split's 'Midnight Hour'. Another seriously beefy body of work!

Review: Out of the new school labels to emerge over the last few years, Iron Shirt are undoubtedly one of dubsteps shining lights, with their standards continuously peaking new high points with every release. This time around they welcome Vaqm inside for a dizzying display of bass-dripping flavour, with the swampy, sub-busting low ends of the title track 'Mind Traps' giving us an introductory taste of what's to come. From here, Frenk Dublin arrives on queue to add a dubwise spin to 'Mind Traps' before Vaqm arrives again on solo duty for the sweeping synth drives and angelic pad textures of 'Dune'. Next, 'The Only Way' dips into a euphoric combination of blissful harmonic layering and lethal synthetic processing for a real journey of a tune, before the dissonant melodic grooves of 'Psyche' puts a thought-provoking close on proceedings. Brilliant work!

Review: After a very brief hiatus, the Iron Shirt Recordings team are back at it again with yet another killer dubstep drop, this time seeing Dark Entity unleashing an eight-track LP display jam-packed with steppers-infused goodness. Our journey begins with the powerful percussive pumps of 'Skulk', which through gnarly bass pulses and a constantly expanding soundscape works wonders before Wreckage gives the track a subby overhaul for good measure. Next, we are greeted by an earth-shattering display of growling reesey bass textures on 'No Leaders', which is then chased up by L Nix who delivers an impressive melodic overhaul. From here we move into the title track 'Room', which features some catchy vocal swings from Daygorilla on mic duties, before the shimmering synth slides of 'Bonecrusher' and gut-punching subs of the Graysound remix send us back down a much more steppers influenced road. Finally, 'Idle' gives us a rousing crescendo to the LP, with a heavy melodic influence of piano and synths playing a major role to sign us out in style.

Review: It's always a good time when L Nix & Outsider combine, which Iron Shirt Recordings facilitate again on this fabulous new five track display. We begin with the war-like soundscapes and grizzly themes of 'The Land Of Ruin', which kick starts the EP with a bang alongside Leon Switch's reese-heavy rethink directly after. From here, 'Destroying Acheron' then sees the pair embrace their minimal roots as stripped back drums host a combo of subtle LFO's slices and lethal sub textures before '12 Hours Till Darkness' gives us more of the same tasty dish. We then finish up with the swampy sound design and gnarly textures of 'City Of Sins', which through a combination of haunted string-like melodies, chomping bass punches and hard hitting drums, unleashes a perfect sign off.

Review: For a number of years now, the Iron Shirt Recordings team really have been at the forefront of dubstep music, with their release catalogue constantly showcasing a fantastic combination of fabulous newcomers and established stepper veterans. This latest body of work sees them invite the ever-ready Split inside for a masterclass in dub-design as he unveils his full length 'Dream Catcher' album. Featuring twelve vibrant originals and two well-placed remixes, it's a top quality showcasing of Split's intricate production style, from the precise percussive pulses of 'Poison', the gnarly synth twists of 'Mafia' and big room drum smashes of 'No Escape', to the twisted, evil sounding didgeridoo warbles of the title track 'Dream Catcher', which instantaneously catches the ear. It's a pretty masterful display, with our highlights including the delicate clicks and engulfing sub-textures of 'Bubbler', next to the system sizzling reese=bass action of 'Tenacious Theme' and swampy LFO swoops of 'Amanita'. It's a wicked overall project that can be taken as either an enjoyable long play listen or a pick n mix of DJ-friendly singles.

Cryptic - (3:15) 140 BPM
Review: The team behind the Iron Shirt Recordings imprint have been on fire of late, with their catalogue constantly improving with incredible new releases, such as this powerful album from Internal Frequency by the name of 'Oasis'. A dubstep album is never an easy thing, variation is key, as is a sense of direction and movement, both of which are features that throughout the very heart of this selection. From the ethereal vocal textures of 'Lift The Veil', to the raucous synthesizer action of 'Sidewinder' to the percussive brilliance of 'Gaia', this project covers so much ground, it's quite remarkable. The quality levels are extremely high and each track runs as a solid standalone, but even better in the long play format we feel this album was intended for. For us, the clear highlights include the aquatic atmospheric textures of 'Lucid Dreams', the eastern inspired melodics of 'Mirage' and of course the powerful synthesis of 'Illusion'.

Review: The team at Iron Shirt Recordings have been on a pretty relentless roll across the breadth of 2020, with there being at least one notable drop a month it would seem. This latest outing sees them yet again flexing their muscles as they welcome Jaswan inside for a spice-laden four-tracker, commencing with the airy woodwind textures and sumptuous drum designs of 'Oracle'. From here, 'Atlantis' follows with a similar vibe about it, dripping with organic shaker layers and creeping background melodies that give the whole track a bit of a sneaky feel, followed by the more potent snare crunches and glittering synth slides of the title track 'Dias Muerte'. Finally, the charming chimes and melodic plucks of 'Toy Box' puts the final touches on an excellent body of work!

Review: Iron Shirt's top quality run has continued yet again here as Wreckage lands for a sumptuous full length LP drop, showcasing eight of the finest contributions to date. We begin with a dive into the gnarly atmospheric structures and Asian plucks of 'Liberty Caps' before 'Break Of Dawn' unleashes a grizzly, reese-lead LFO line, complete with Dark Entity's extremely volatile remix. Next, the crunchy drum slaps and pulsating soundscapes of 'Hypnotic' roll into view, followed by a tasty rework from L Nix, before 'Swamp' takes a much more minimal approach, focussing solely on an aquatic sounding harmonic structure. From here, VATIK gives Swamp an even more eerie refix before rounding off on the title track 'Over Oceans', a pad-heavy expanse of emotional harmony and stripped back drum design.

Review: We know full well how good a run the team at Iron Shirt Recordings have been on, so when we saw they had announced this monumental eight track selection from High Dude, we couldn't wait to get stuck in. The introduction takes the title 'Breathing' and is a perfect way to kick off proceedings with it's dripping textures and minimal design, with 'Hidden From the Masses' following up with more stunning percussive work and 'Hiccup' then moving the LP forward with an array of swampy bass textures. The project then intensifies heavily on 'Beyond The Horror', bringing more potent synth arrangements to the forefront along with eerie vocal samples, leading us into the half-time D&B drum patterns and intense side-chaining of 'Probity' and aquatic drum timbres of 'Clandestine'. Finally, two bangers to conclude our journey, as 'Chosen Solitude' provides us with some unorthodox, garage inspired drum switches alongside moogy bass plucks, followed by the minimal yet intriguing bass curls and percussive space of 'Omon Gon Oson'. What a project it is!

Review: There is a certain level of quality we have come to expect when taking in new music from Iron Shirt Recordings, a level which they hit and surpass with this latest tasty number from Chikage. The title track 'Fall Of Light' greets us firstly with a spooky introductory soundscape, with luscious pads slowly descending into some grizzly UKG goodness. This is then chased up with the smooth textures of 'First Contact' along with Wreckage's minimal remix. Next, we encounter the crunchy percussive inputs and writhing bass designs of 'Sleep Paralysis' before the tempo leaps up across the gnarly halftime vibes of 'Duality Of Man'. Review: The Iron Shirt Recordings returns here in epic proportions as they unveil this incredible new LP from Split, who heads up a 15 track expanse of dubstep delights. The project is made up almost evenly of original recordings and intuitive remixes, with incredibly creative arrangements such as the swampy textures of 'TopDogs' and the glitchy percussive rolls of 'Kotomble' taking stand out roles. As far as the remixes go, Wreckage immediately stands out as he revamps 'Left Area' into a serious neurotic roller, as well as Michael Dayne's incredibly well thought out soundscaping of 'Two Skies'. Featuring rubs from some of the label's closest confidants; Tallan & Clause, Steven Lorenz and Frenk Dublin, From The Ashes is a powerful trip that fires into the deepest of space without so much as a stub of a return ticket. Cavernous, unashamedly bleak and introspective, highlights include the Saharan twangs and ice pads of "Demon Slayer", the cinematic drama and stark aquatic poignancy of "Rainstorm", the stadium toms and wry gun load prang f "Sniper" and the minimal growl and shimmering synths of the brilliantly titled "Tumultuous". Review: Iron Shirt Recordings continue their fine form, a burst of activity which has seen them grow from fledgling dubstep collective to game-defining future-bass. This, right here, is the third instalment of the deadly Iron Shirt series, a time for recollection and unity among their catalogue's fine roster. You won't find any wobble-bruisers in here, the majority of the 8 tracks are taken up by slow-burning, cavernous bits of cerebral beat music for those wishing to meditate on some deep-as-hell bass-weight. Tunes form the likes of Split, Chikage, L Nik and Dark Entity are some of the best examples of the deeper end of the bass spectrum that we've heard this year, and we're fully confident that Iron Shirt will continue to evolve their sound with the objective of dominating this corner of the scene. Terra (original mix) - (4:41) 140 BPM

Review: Kiwi duo, Morrison, are back on their native Iron Shirt Recordings with another killer selection of stealthy, ninja-like dubstep fort those who like their flow cold and peppered with meditative sonics for the late night sessions. "Terra" and "Formation" are the two cuts in question, both tunes which have enough weight beneath them to blow your speakers out; stealthy, cerebral and deeply moving, these are bad, bad tunes that recall the best of Mala's Deep Medi imprint. Sick Cycle's remix of "Terra" goes even deeper into the wormhole thanks to an additional pounding of bass, while Dubmentalist's version staggers more on the dub end of the spectrum through hefty percussive shots and sporadic Rastafari melodies, which leaves High Dude to provide some downtempo goodness on his own take - probably the best remix of the three. Review: It's a perfect match; the dubwise sonic filter of L NIX is perfectly suited to what Iron Shirt Recordings have been focusing on for quite some time, and it makes this one of those releases that feels painfully right from the first moment it landed on our charts. The opening "Stumbles" lays out a clear and effective blueprint for the sort of shady, heavily moody bass vibes that follow on the subsequent 9 slabs of heartical drum-beating and hertz-morphing. "The Rift" is another peak moment on here, its stepping dub breaks guided by the subtle rap poetry of Ramai Lama, not to mention the grainy picture painted by "Viceroth", or the cold, ear-shaking artillery of percussion that's unleashed on "Bandits". If you like you step to be on the heavily dubby side then look no further than this sublime slice of dance sci-fi.

Review: Smoggy sonics from the heart of Rajasthan; Vain makes his debut on trusted depth source Iron Shirt. "Sentimental" is as cloying as its name suggests; dense fog and heat-tugging chord changes thrust through the mist with the help of a funky, almost trap-informed kick arrangement. Dune (original mix) - (4:48) 140 BPM Hot
Dune (Tallan remix) - (4:25) 140 BPM
Review: Iron Shirt introduces us to brand new producer Steven Lorenz. Ensuring his entrance is felt by anyone who's so much as looked at a speaker once in their lifetime, "Dune" is a driving slab of low-end paranoia. Controlled by a palpitating bedrock bass that hums rigidly, rising on the fills, we're presented with an array of percussive elements that fly across the stereoscope with a wry sense of unpredictability. As far as entry tracks go, this is right up there. Remix-wise Tallan adds a broader, more isolating sense of space, Outbound twist the vibe to focus on a purring metallic bass tone while Morrison take us right back to the dungeon with a slimy, pensive cut that's entrenched in deep dub rudiments. Awesome.

Moment Of Prophecy - (6:01) 140 BPM

Played by: FatKidOnFire, GAZE ILL
Review: Cue Line co-founder and all-round Danish dub demon Gaze Ill steps up to Iron Shirt for a four-pack of momentous darkness. The first thing that strikes you about the title track is the tightly sprung subby kicks that play the consummate bouncy ball beneath heavy pressure pads, creating a natural groove with carefully placed minimal elements. Deeper again we hit "Detached" where an array of bass textures await; from the more bulbous bubbles to nastier tears and sneers, they ooze from the speakers while a solid drum arrangement ploughs through the sad atmospherics. Elsewhere "Superior" tells a tale of cavernous dynamics as the elastic bass twists itself in every direction. Finally we hit "Saturate": Perhaps the most dancefloor tuned of the set, this more than lives up to its name. Just crank up your sub and listen to that low-end.

Archon - (5:01) 140 BPM Hot
Enslaved - (5:15) 140 BPM
Played by: Konsida, Alert, GAZE ILL
Review: Did you know Press's full name is actually Pressed For Time? Well it is and it's because he's so talented and in demand he barely has any time for himself. This is no bad thing. Especially not when he's conjuring up next-level space bass jams like this... "Archon" is a shuddering tech juggernaut with pummelling double-up riddims and a lolloping sub message that surges with precision dominance. "Enslaved" is a much darker, moody moment: all breathy atmospherics, slimy sonics and woozy halfsteps, it's the perfect counter to the uncompromising heaviness of "Archon". Just Press play.

Rainfade - (5:13) 140 BPM
Review: Organic New Zealand vibes abound as the country's well-established dubstep label turn to local lads Morrison for two uncompromising lessons in depth and texture. "Terra" is built up around one rich, warm synth stab that pushes down on a tight bed of heavily breathing FX and spacious drum dynamics. "Rainfade" is deeper again with far away synth shimmers, liquid riddim techniques and distant pads that weep mournfully in the background. Both are absolutely stunning.

3.13am (The Illuminated remix) - (5:36)
Review: Thirteen: Unlucky for some - but not for anyone who picks up on these thick, rich subby flavours. Humming with metallic, low-end menace "3.13am" is a one-way ticket to a dungeon that's coated in sonic slime. Remix-wise The Illuminated adds some techno sensibility to the rhythm, all double kicks and insistent snares ricocheting off the cavernous walls. Elsewhere we find Thirteen throwing down some seriously angular bass funk ("Enigma") and getting deeper again by way of a heavily processed snare and spooked out atmospheres ("Things To Come").

Grail - (5:49) 140 BPM
Review: Having made a few rumbles with his own free download campaign, Drooka steps over to the well-respected Iron Shirt brand for his debut EP. "Rood" is as spacious as it gets; tripped out and cavernous, you'll lose yourself within seconds of pressing play. "Grail" is a really interesting composition thanks to its clattering drums that peep over the edge of chaos without fully diving in. "Bandulu" and "Amun" both take us back to the darkest corner of the dungeon by way of aquatic, liquid bass squiggles and squelches. Intriguing, deep and well anchored, you'd be rood not check this out...

Review: Last spotted on Mishva's "Gaia" EP last October, "Civilization" is a purring, tribal dub workout with just a smidgeon of techno temper thrown in. Here we find it twisted in four different ways... Tallan softens the growls and adds a nagging stabbing hook, Warsa takes us on a much more spacious trip with echoed out rimshots and cosmic synth wafts, Native gets trippy on the percussion arrangements while Darj serves up a deep digi dub riddim with a slow, smouldering stomp.

Review: It's a UK via New Zealand affair as Kiwi label Iron Shirt commission Londoner Native for four breath-takingly deep moments in dub. Hitting the abyss button on his bass machine and gluing it down throughout, we're treated to the following: complex percussion-heavy and elephantine sub bass ("Anaconda"), dreamy vocal garage bliss ("Reborn"), spacious, clicky contemplation ("Memories") and 23rd century space funk ("Moonlight"). Big.

Review: The word 'haunted' is used far too often when it comes to cold, chilling, eerie dubstep like this. But this release actually is haunted. Well, a bloke down the pub told us three ghosts got into Tallan's computer as he mixed this mighty four-tracker down and you can hear them crying amongst the icy pads and sparse, reverberating rhythms. Mind you, the same guy told us he had a hover board. And he didn't. So it's probably nonsense. Whatever - each of these heavy head-nodders pays homage to traditional dub techniques where real intricacies are paid to each element as they warp and morph from classic to future dub textures. Scarily good.
