Review: It's now a distant and foggy 2009, but we remember the first time we'd heard of Tapes; not much was known of the artist back then, like now, but his sound promised to bring a fresh, new perspective to dub music thanks to a fully analogue set up, and a live set that was literally comprised of physical tape manipulations. Much of the same can be said about Jahtari, a label who has equally grown thanks to the artistry of Tapes, so it feels natural that they'd want to release the producer's first piece of work from the tail-end of the last decade, the inimitable Compuriddims. Perhaps it feels like normal practice now, but back then it was rare to hear a LP that contained digital dub tracks accompanied by elements of noise and electronics, used primarily to create structure and add an aesthetic flair that few others can summon. This is now an important album, born for modern dub and the experimental scene on the whole, and its available for the first time on digi download. Do the right thing.
