Review: The Juice Recordings crew have assembled one hell of a feast for us here as 'Classic Vinyl BBQ' unleashes 22 party-ready anthems, exploring the best of new school breakbeat with some of the best producers flexing their muscles from start to finish. It's a star-studded line up from top to bottom, With the likes of DJ Mike B, Speedfreeks, Phatty P, DJ Moon and more all providing us with crunchy original creations, alongside a host of other names. The project has a real party-starting atmosphere about it from start to finish, with that start fusing the dancefloor-inspired rave sirens and shuffling drum stutters of 'Feel My Energy' together with supreme potency, and the final track being DJ BadboE's funkadelic slink out in 'Can't Wait Much Longer'. It's a solid collection that would highly recommend taking it on shuffle for the full breadth of sonic directions on offer.
Review: As a project, this one is built for the festival scene, as Wes Smith pulls together elements of big room, electro, breakbeat and a tonne of other fresh musical elements for his 'Atomic Swap' EP. We kick off with the hardcore vibes of 'Egyption Stutter', which combines shuffling drum maneuvers, growling reese basslines and an emotive lead synth for a piece of electronic beauty, Following this to finish up the project we hear the more euphoric arpeggiators of 'Let's Go', which draws from EDM-like sound design and sharp rhythm's to great effect.
Review: Straight out of San Diego, Breakbeat forerunner 'Wes Smith' steps forward alongside Juice Recordings to bring us an inspired original six track EP. We start off with the garage-like sounds of 'Muzik' which combines classic hardcore keys with syncopated UKG rhythms perfectly. Next we have the breaksy rolls of 'Shake It' leading into the Bristol bass influenced sounds of 'Party All Night'. Following this we move into the breakbeat rhythms and electronic vocals of 'Now', the heavyweight bass arrangement of '8 Track', concluding with the deep house stylings of 'Take Me Away'. There's something for everyone on this EP, that's for certain!
