Review: On previous outings, Mufti has proved adept at joining the dots between new wave synth-pop, industrial funk and the darker end of the nu-disco spectrum. 'Eyes Shuttered', the Mexican artist's latest EP for Kaputt.wav, continues in this vein. The title track is deliciously moody and atmospheric, with evocative spoken word vocals, creepy melodic motifs and echoing guitar notes rising above unfussy nu-disco drums, arpeggio-driven synthesizer sounds and a raw, angular electronic bassline. DC Salas provides a slightly glossier but no less moody and intoxicating nu-disco revision, before Mishell re-imagines the track as a dark and rolling, acid-flecked house roller. Bonus cut 'Desires', is a pleasingly clandestine, Depeche Mode-influenced instrumental synth-pop throb-job.
