Review: Direct Input dish up a special one-tracker on Kick It and it comes complete with a simple vocal sample question: Are you ready for the ruffneck sound? The answer: Of course you are! You were born ready. Drop this and your dancefloor will be ready too; with its bold synth riff, chugging breakbeats and thunderous bassline, this lives up to its name in every way. Pro-tip: wait for the breakdown for the riff to truly flourish and watch the chaos unfold.
Review: It's about time breakbeat paid homage to the Higgs Boson, but it's been worth the wait. Packed with a spectrum of vibes, from heavenly, spine-shuddering synth waves to a dreamy drop, "God Particle" is armed with a bassline so heavy it's got its own gravitational pull. Remix-wise MBFB gives things a jolly good EDM shooing while DeadSlim adds a grittier, deeper electro stomp. Godly goods galore!
Review: Developing quite the reputation in breakbeat circles, Kwerk consistently has delivered full-bodied bass workouts since the very beginning. Naturally this is no exception; opening with a pacey, full drum intro, we're soon pushed deep into a series of halfstep twists. Coated in a well applied spoken word sample, it keeps you on your toes from start to finish. Remix-wise Sneaker & The Dryer add a little old school cheekiness while Olmec extends the space and sonics for something a little more progressive. Get to werk!
Review: Flipping the bird from his high tower betwixt EDM, electro and breakbeat, Beatz Projekted's distinctive blend of spirited sonics has won him many fans over the last year or so with releases on labels such as Disco Bomb, Miami In Tech, Plasmapool and Redbox. His debut on Texan label Kick It is likely to score yet more; "Battleship" gurgles and glitches with vibrant funk flourishes and a vicious bass undertone that will sink any boat in a 20 mile radius. Remix-wise Kwerk adds a little more breakbeat swing to the melting pot while Tactical Groove Orbit throw down a whole new chapter in stomp. Heavy.
Review: Jacksonville label Kick It Recordings have amassed a respectable rave repertoire in the last few years, dropping sprightly breakbeat bumper-bangers and diesel-powered electro romper-stompers at every given opportunity. This 'best of' collection is a great reminder of the carnage they've caused over the last 12 months. Highlights come from the cathedral-like emo synth riff on Farace's "Push The Beat", the warped-chugs of tribal hypnotism on Marcus Gauntlett's "Miami" and the viciousness of Direct Input's acid-caked "Psy Bot". Kick it live up to their name in every way!
