The genesis of King Street Sounds can be traced back to the legendary Paradise Garage nightclub, a hotbed of dance music spearheaded by Larry Levan. Esteemed DJs such as Francois Kevorkian, David Morales, Louie Vega, and Junior Vasquez credit the club as a major influence on their styles and careers. Building on this musical revolution, Hisa Ishioka founded King Street Sounds in 1993 to continue the tradition of soulful-spiritual house music from the late 70s to the late 80s.
Over the years, King Street Sounds has become a leading NY Garage House record label, showcasing various styles such as Soulful and Vocal House, Deep House, and Afro/Latin/Jazz. Despite the unstable market, the label remains one of the few consistent and independent labels today. With a roster including Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer, Louie Vega, Blaze, and David Morales, King Street Sounds has established itself as one of the finest labels in the industry.
