Review: Following up a great release on Russian imprint Private Persons, Florian Kupfer returns to L.I.E.S. - a label that he has fast become a staple of in recent years. Beginning with the sublime opener "Conact" featuring the man from Wiesbaden's signature tape saturated rhythms balanced out by those evocative piano sounds. Then there's the EP's standout moment in the form of "Random Chaos" which is a slow burning techno jam by way of EBM with its gnarly arpeggio business and metallic jack. Finally, the rhythmic DJ tool "Z" features some powerful tom drum action that reaches near Japanese Taiko moments. Unless you were sleeping under a rock back in 2015, you most likely heard the buzz around Kupfer's S.A.D. Edits which featured some well executed resplices of certain classics by British songstress Sade. From there, his original productions appeared on a who's who of it labels such as W.T. Records, Technicolour and Russian Torrent Versions.

Review: Rather than flooding the market with constant batches of releases, Terekke has opted for the quality over quantity option, a decision to which we?re very much partial to. Aside from a handful of releases for several fledgling imprints, the producer has mainly stuck to his native LIES label, Ron Morelli?s powerhouse. Much to our pleasure, both parties seem to be veering more towards the ambient space, and Plant Age is very much an expression of that, gliding majestically between new age and house, constantly morphing and shape-shifting with each new track. This LP is Terekke through and through, touching down with all sorts of airy, tropical aesthetics that are wonderful both on their own, and as one whole piece of music. Dreamy and ever-expanding, this is outsiderism at its best, and surely puts the imitators in their place. Here is the contemporary maestro.

Review: Following a productive 2016 in which he delivered superb material on labels including Dekmantel, Clone and Perc Tracks, Randomer returns to L.I.E.S for the first time since 2015. "Smokin" is a typically bombastic and bass-heavy affair, with the producer combining his usual metallic, industrial-tinged sounds and spacey electronics with a killer electro groove. It's little less than a genuine club roller that achieves a perfect balance between rhythmic funkiness and trippy eccentricity. you will then get the creepy, echo-laden hits, horror chic and panicked rhythms of "Velvet" and the dense, dusty late night techno throb of "Rye". While neither of the these tracks can match the thrills of "Smokin", they're both excellent mixing tools.

Review: Brooklyn-born Berliner Adam X returns to both LIES and his industrial and experimental ambient fusionist guise ADMX 71. A succinct three-track attack, Adam's first ADMX material since 2015's Coherent Abstractions continues the bleak and frank theme: "Nuclear Hysterics" counters distorted kickdrum chaos with fear and sudden shards of space, "Dire Situation" creates raw, physical suspense with its ricochet build up and ominous oscillations before the kick ignites our march into the fearful unknown while "Neutron Absorber" is the aftermath where Adam includes more space for thought, action and reaction. Immense, as always.

Review: British techno veteran Oliver Ho has released some fine material as Broken English Club since debuting the alias back in 2014. The English Beach, Ho's second BEC full-length and first for L.I.E.S, is the audio equivalent of a trip to a run-down North Sea coastal resort on a wet Wednesday in November. Full of end-of-days electronics, stripped-back industrial techno, moody minimal wave shufflers and bubbly EBM workouts, it's as authentic a tribute to early '80s electronic experimentalism as you're likely to hear all year. Highlights include the Nitzer Ebb style bounce of "Pylon", the foreboding, desolate electronica of "Rust Ballad", the angry electro moodiness of "Carrion" and the rolling, organ-laden autumnal bliss of "The English Beach".

Review: Courtesy is Black Dice member Eric Copeland's eleventh studio album in the past decade and his third for Ron Morelli's label. Apart from the US producer's prolific output, what impresses most here is his ability to deliver a wide range of styles within the general lo-fi spectrum. "Doggy" is a goofy workout that nonetheless takes inspiration from Chicago house, while in contrast, "Chinatown" is a jittery, punky affair and on "Oppsy Dayzee", he veers into a breathless, widescreen synth direction. However, such clean sounds are only a temporary distraction and Copeland's default position rests in the creation of busy, complex, left of centre tracks such as the tonal mess of "Following the Man" or on the drilling riffs and hyperactive cowbells of "Convoy".

Review: For their latest foray into the world of the ghostly, intense and unusual, L.I.E.S has turned to fellow New Yorker Adam Mitchell, a man whose career as a techno producer stretches back to the 1990s. Here, though, he's appearing under his lesser-known Admx-71 alias, a pseudonym used for his more experimental endeavours. Sitting somewhere between unsettling ambience, horror-influenced IDM, analogue electro, industrial and out-there experimentation, the album's 11 tracks bristle with bright ideas. While there are undeniably dark and hard-to-handle moments, Mitchell's default setting is more quietly melodious, resulting in a set that impresses with its' alien melodies, spacey electronics and fuzzy, distortion-soaked rhythms.

Review: Under his other alias, D.K, French producer 45 ACP has produced some of the most blindingly joyous electronic music of recent times - colourful, vibrant, synthesizer-heavy fare capable of bringing brightness to even the most depressing of days. While some of that mood enhancing melodiousness can be heard on Change of Tone, his first full-length for L.I.E.S, for the most it's a much more melancholic affair. While the chords are beautiful and the subtle rhythms pleasingly evocative, there's a sadness at the heart of the album that's not present on his other work. It is, though, a sublime set, delivering a range of tracks that quietly tug at the heartstrings in the most enjoyable of ways.

Review: Rohan Walder's prolific output continues with another release on Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. It's been been a banner year for Walder with releases recently on sister label Russian Torrent Versions and Clone Basement Series earning him his stripes. He unleashes six more bastardised takes on techno for this new EP. From the sublime exotic percussion workouts on the title track and "Bell Jam", the rusty and stomping warehouse grooves of "Brutus" and "Dem Thing" it all crosses rather gracefully over on the rather fierce "Juju". This guy never fails to deliver, check this out!

Review: Perhaps in an effort to reiterate their name, the producer known simply as Person Of Interest makes their second appearance of the week with a full debut for 'The Don' Morelli's LIES label. First surfacing under the P.O.I. name with "Fever" for the label's Music For Shut In's compilation, Person Of Interest is clearly an individual having a bit of fun with the "anonymous producer" approach or maybe just a fan of the faintly ludicrous Jim Caviezel fronted TV show of the same name. Lead track "Call This Number" is the cut most will pull for, driven by clattering garage drums and wonky house stabs that sound like they've come from a Korg on it's last legs. Don't overlook the other cuts however, with "Don't You...." the kind of acid techno that would light up Jamal Moss's eyes with Whilst "Plotting With A Double Deuce" demonstrates POI can be just as deadly at a slower, grottier tempo.

Review: Blimey Marcos is on one here! The somewhat morbid title to Cabral's second album for LIES should hint at what to expect from the six tracks within as the New Yorker lays out a masterclass in grinding, sonic bedlam. It's clear Cabral's experiments with the Chemotex project for The Trilogy Tapes have spurred a new level of creativity and darkness in him and it's thrilling to see how far he takes it on Buried Alive Twice. Forget any dancefloor pretences; this album is all about grinding sound design with highlights in the shape of the foreboding stutter of "That's Not A Bathroom" (featuring someone called Suzi) and "Shallows" which sounds like thick globules of acid being attacked by a swarm of locusts.

Review: Unicursal Hexagram, the debut album from Brooklyn-based experimentalist Jahiliyya Fields remains a highlight of the L.I.E.S. discography some three years after its release. The left-of-centre synthesizer soundscapes, droning textures and experimental explorations were astounding at the time, and it's an album you can revisit now and still uncover new depths. On Chance Life, his second album for L.I.E.S., Jahiliyya Fields changes tack a little with the 11 tracks a tad closer to the dancefloor. While there are still out-there moments (including a bizarre spoken word cut), for the most part the album pairs his throbbing synthesizers and crusty electronics with dense techno grooves, psychedelic tribal rhythms and humid box jams.

Review: Malaysian-in-Shanghai Tsuzing is one of the more interesting recent additions to the L.I.E.S roster, if only for his interest in blending elements of EBM, industrial and new wave influences with the scuffed house and bleak techno the label is renowned for. There's much to enjoy on the fast-rising producer's second E.P for Ron Morelli's label, not least the clanking, Nitzer Ebb-inspired thump of opener "4 Floors of Whores". Even better is standout "Frankincense & Myrrh", a hellish fusion of riotous rave influences, twisted stabs, thunderous beats and mangled sirens. "Khi-Tang" is a little more subdued, but still deliciously strange and metallic (think Cabaret Voltaire meets Willie Burns, and you're close), while "Odd" is a cacophonous chunk of nightmarish industrial techno.

Review: Throwing the weight of your enthusiasm into uncovering the identity of Person Of Interest using your search engine of choice is one of the more futile ways to spend your spare time. Aside from the insinuation by LIES that POI is a Brooklyn-based producer, you'll find little more than numerous fan sites to the Jim Caviezel fronted TV drama of the same name. Just accept this cloak of anonymity and focus on the cuts! What You Think You Want is a fine addition to another busy year for LIES, and the title cut has already been causing dancefloor bedlam in the hands of some well chosen selectors. "Keep It Moving" offers a less haywire side to POI and gets quite beautiful towards the end, whilst "My 97s" is a murky dancefloor cut that wouldn't sound out of place wedged inbetween some grime. Killer sleeve from long time LIES art affiliate Pete Leonard!
