Review: French producer Punky Wash has a long track record behind him, first emerging during the 'French touch' era of the late 90s and being an integral part of the Famille Electro family. Here he comes to veteran Chi-town label Large Music with a cut that, in its original form, comes from the more jazz-funk inspired end of the deep, soulful house spectrum, with a rumpshaking b-line, lush chords and some fine horn-blowin' action. Hotmood then steps up to the remix plate and gives the track a much more straight-up house makeover, with a rock solid 4/4 kick and the jazzier elements toned down a notch or two.

Review: Tech-house, minimal and deep tech have a lot to answer for: deep house grooves of a more soulful bent are a lot harder to find these days, so lovers of such will definitely want to check for this three-tracker from Copenhagen-based Johansen, which comes to you courtesy of the mighty Large. The original mix can be filed under 'deep house' or 'US garage' as you see fit, while the remix from Brighton's Scott Diaz pushes us firmly into the latter camp and is 100% pure bump, with skippy beats, chopped-up vox and cool, Rhodes-y keys. The very mid-90s-sounding, diva-wailed 'Give It Up' completes an EP that'll delight the proverbial "proper 'eads"!

Review: Two US house veterans team up on an EP for long-running Chicago label Large Music, and the results are every bit as good as you'd expect. 'True Blue' is presented in two mixes. The Original is a rolling, understated deep house groover, leaning strongly to the disco/garage side of things and sporting some deliciously warbly organs as well as off-kilter keys reminiscent of early Kerri Chandler/Madhouse material. The dubbier, more stripped-back 'True Blue Two', meanwhile, could have been purpose-built for UK garage floors circa 1995 with its tuffer drums and cut-up vox. Obvious peaktime thrills may be in short supply here, but the proverbial 'heads' will be mesmerised.

Review: Deep, soulful house is the order of the day generally on this collab between Chicago veterans Santiago and Frank Solano, but there's still plenty of variety to its three tracks. 'After Glow' is a mellifluous, midtempo number redolent of classic Naked/Om with its hefty b-line and dreamy female vocal. 'Tribute' is a touch sprightlier in the BPM department and has a bumpin', cut-up, garage-y feel, while finally 'Uptime' is a slice of late 90s-style filter disco that should work well on a certain Mediterranean island this summer. Large main man Jeff Craven's A&R skills clearly haven't dulled one iota, even after 27 years in the game!

Review: Last year, Greek producer Sek returned to legendary U.S deep house label Large Music after a five-year absence. Here he delivers a swift follow-up boasting three classic-sounding cuts. First up is the organ-sporting New Jersey garage-meets-Chez Damier goodness of "The Realm", where sampled party chatter and righteous spoken word vocals help create a hazy, glassy-eyed mood. "The Nerd Comeback" sees him amble amiably towards mid-tempo disco-house territory - all filtered disco strings, chunky bass and bumpin' beats - while "Heater Gonna Heat" offers a jauntier and breezier riff on the same basic blueprint. It's got a similar vibe to DJ Koze's "Pick Up" and Tom Trago's "Use Me (Again)", though it's arguably a little deeper and groovier than both of those colossal dancefloor hits.
