Review: To celebrate five years of his Lazy Days imprint, Fred Everything gets Crazy P, Art of Tones, Greg Wilson and Ian Pooley to provide a bunch of remixes of some of the label's best-loved tracks. While all provide solid reworks - particularly Crazy P, whose two rubs of Fred Everything's own "Friday" are excellent - it's Art Of Tones who really excels. His three reworks of Tortured Soul's 'Found A Way' are everything a disco-loving house head would wish for; loose, bumpin' and deliciously soulful, riding a wave of loose-wristed live drums and classic synth strings.
Review: Over the course of the last decade, Shur-I-Kan's development from shuffly broken beat maestro to deep house stalwart has mirrored the shift in emphasis of his regular home, Freerange Records. Here he shifts focus again, popping up on Lazy Days with a reliably solid three-tracker that should please old fans and newcomers alike. While "Staying In" and the particularly gorgeous "One 10" are typical chunks of melody-driven deepness, lead cut "Life Live" is thicker, funkier and altogether more hurried than his usual output. With its copious use of filters, sweet vocal samples and thick, disco-centric bottom end, it should find favour well beyond deep house clubs.
Review: This four-tracker from Matthias Vogt is worth checking for lead cut "S-Cat", which brilliantly combines a range of disparate house influences. We can hear echoes of both Jaydee's "Plastic Dreams" and Iz & Diz's boompty classic "Mouth", alongside sci-fi melodies and deliciously deep keys. It's an alluring combination. "Under The Radar" offers more straight-up fluid deepness, albeit with stargazing melodies that evoke memories of early bleep techno. It's weirdly calming, despite a solid dancefloor pulse. The Flow steps up on remix duties, adding a dose of dubbiness and some cute production touches that really bring out the original's flowery piano touches. Most pleasing.
Review: According to our strenuous research (erm, two minutes spent browsing Discogs), this appears to be the first single for nearly four years from US deep house stalwarts Lawnchair Generals. It might not be (don't write in, please), but it's certainly a rare outing from the veteran duo. It's excellent, too, offering a more driving and energetic feel than many of their vintage productions. Whipped along at a frantic pace by a heavy electric bassline, it nestles somewhere between thumping deep house and classic disco. The Looks Like Dub adds a little cosmic spice, while Rob Mello strips the track back to an angular, 808-heavy groove on his druggy, floor-friendly rework.
Review: Paying tribute to house music's most timeless aspects, "Elephants" will find favour with anyone who's much as sniffed a DJ Gregory or John Ciafone record. Positive Balearic fusion with just a touch of emotion in the minor keys, it's an instant pleaser for ravers or chillers. Elsewhere we enjoy a slab of Womack-style soul over cascading strings ("Myself, My Body") and get instantly sedated by the dreamy cosmicity of "The Right Moment". Arty on dudes!

Review: Fred Everything's Lazy Days Recordings comes correct with Summer Daze Vol 1, a perfect selection of tracks for the sweltering weather wherever you are in the world. Despite its somewhat generic title, this compilation is actually filled with some of the finer deep house you're likely to hear this week, steering clear of the tired '90s revival sound for something steeped in a marinade of balearic disco, '80s house, synthpop and cosmic tones. The whole thing is excellent stuff all told, but if pressed to choose, our highlights would include the boogie-infused Spirit Catcher remix of Kreuse & Nuernberg's "Last Chance" and the sumptuous mid tempo grooves of Shur-I-Kan's "One Ten".
