Review: Almost two years on from the release of his fine - if arguably under-appreciated - debut album Waving, Athens veteran Lex returns to Leng Records with an EP that combines killer revisions of album tracks with two previously unreleased originals. The remixes are particularly impressive, with Faze Action's wonderfully colourful, pitched-down Balearic nu-disco revision of 'Punta Allen' - where the Lee brothers successfully add to the original version's cheery musicality - being followed by Ruf Dug's gloriously eccentric, acid-flecked house-not-house version of 'Prezend'. Elsewhere, 'Super Awake' is an immersive, TB-303-sporting chunk of sunrise dancefloor psychedelia, and Locke hook-up 'Libre D'Amor' is a glassy-eyed chunk of piano-powered '80s house nostalgia.

Review: San Francisco-based collective 40 Thieves draft in a couple of very special guests here. Cinnamon Joyce, formerly known as Joyce Jones, was a member of Philly stalwarts First Choice and sang on classics like 'Armed And Extremely Dangerous' and 'Smarty Pants', while Gary Davis was an in-house musician for Patrick Adams and Peter Brown's equally legendary P&P Records. Which explains the sheer quality that drips from every pore of 'The Gift', a slo-mo groover sitting somewhere between soul, Balearica and nu-disco that's augmented by some gorgeous, garage-y organs and supplied with dub, beats and radio mixes for maximum playability.

Review: The Russian-born nu-disco specialist, Takovoi returns to Leng Records with a five-track EP titled 'The Perfect Match', offering a range of grooves and stylistic approaches, highlighting Takovoi's love for dreamy Balearic chords, soft-touch synth sounds, and colorful melodies. The EP's opening title track sets the tone, with sustained, sun-down chords, yearning lead lines, cascading piano motifs, and twinkling electronics riding a shuffling, post-electro beat and a warm, undulating bassline. In "Homesickness", Takovoi wraps waves of rising and falling synth sounds and melancholic melodies around a deep, hypnotic nu-disco groove. "Teenage Dreams" takes on a slow-motion sensation, bringing throbbing analogue bass, sustained piano chords, sparkling electronics, and the gentlest of beats. Takovoi's dancefloor credentials shine on "Bubbles", a slowly building Balearic nu-disco gem that layers up echo-laden percussion hits, eyes-closed melodies, and drowsy synth sounds over a bustling beat that sits somewhere between deep house and TR-808-driven broken beat. The EP's closing cut, "Another The Same", features a unique off-kilter approach to beat programming. Hazy female vocal samples, immersive chords, and reverb-heavy musical motifs gingerly dance on a bouncy and densely layered 4/4 beat. The main melody makes its presence felt midway through, elevating the track to a whole new level. It's a fittingly impressive end to Takovoi's new EP for Leng.

Review: If slo-mo electronic disco with a Balearic twist is your bag, then this team-up between London-based duo Payfone (AKA James Day and Phil Passera) and vocalist Kyd Nereida is one to check for sure. Nereida's wistful vox are the star of the show here, and sit atop a warm and velvety musical backdrop that's definitely more suited to poolside chillin' or post-club sofa-surfing than it is to peaktime dancefloor abandon - though that's not to say its bass-y, keys-flecked groove isn't infectious. Things take a turn for the spacier on a brace of rerubs from label boss Mudd, while a radio edit completes the package.

Review: Did you ever get a record come along and think, "I shouldn't really like this, but I do?" That's the vibe this reviewer's getting from this V/A Day By Day EP, which can best be described as delivering on the promise of 80s pop in a way that ACTUAL 80s pop seldom did! From the gently shimmering 'Angelo' and the funk-fuelled, ABC-ish sophisti-pop of 'Darling', to the more soulful 'Tomorrow Night' and 'Feeling Action', there are some seriously classy grooves here that have won the heart of even this confirmed 80s-phobe - check 'em out for yourself and see if YOU can resist.

Review: A couple of years back, Leng welcomed Greek DJ/producer Lex to the label roster. Real name Alex Andrikopoulos, he's well known in his home city of Athens where he ran the Radical Soundz record shop. Now the Athenian has returned with his debut album for the esteemed London nu-disco label titled Waving, which appears on the back of a handful of EPs for a variety of labels (Samosa, B2, Frole). Whether it's the blissed-out balearica of last year's well received first single "Punta Alien", the late night boogie-down vibe of "Window Spells" (feat Max Giovara), the lo-slung dance floor heater "La Di Da D"i, to the sultry and deep mood music of "Angels Of Rhythm" (Still Bouncing - feat Harriet Summer) or the lovely closer "Keep Mashing" with its classic UK broken beat influence - Waving is his boldest and strongest statement yet as a producer.
